been thinking a lot lately about the impact of the breach

ppl tend to dismiss it - maybe bc bioware didn't play it up enough? maybe bc it's not always obvious? maybe bc it's only in part of the game? I genuinely do not know - and minimize it's in-'verse impact, but honestly it'd be huge

where I live, the sky has turned a deep orange from wildfire smoke + smog and it is Immensely disturbing. every single color outside is wrong and that just... does smth to you. the breach would do the same thing, cast everything in an eerie green light. and the ppl of thedas are still in an age when they're dependent on daylight to do things - to hunt, to farm, to travel, read, write... they have candlelight ofc but candles are an expense, or smth that can be sold if you make your own, not smth to just keep burning endlessly. and mage lights are irrelevant bc up until dai most mages were sequestered in circles

so: dependent on daylight, very acclimated to light and expected colors, and then the breach happens. this is some horrifying end of the world shit even if it wasn't spitting out demons. everything looks wrong literally all the time, even if you don't look up at the gaping hole in the sky

I'm just surprised I never see ppl talking about this. it's like everyone has relegated the breach to being nothing more than a quick in-game quest to solve and then be done with, but the social, cultural, emotional impact would be Enormous in-world

More favourite tropes:

  • “Unfortunately, [thing that would ordinarily be described in much stronger terms than ‘unfortunate’].”
  • “Fortunately, [thing that is in no way fortunate].”
  • “Unfortunately, [thing that would be fortunate in nearly any circumstance except the particular circumstance at hand].“
  • “Fortunately, [very minor benefit that absolutely does not offset the considerable drawbacks of whatever just happened].“
  • “Unfortunately, [the exact, word-for-word thing that somebody just expressed that they hope won’t happen].“
  • “Fortunately, [complete non sequitur].”

And may I add

“Fortunately, [thing]. Unfortunately, [the exact same thing].”

i mean this in the gentlest way possible: you need to eat vegetables. you need to become comfortable with doing so. i do not care if you are a picky eater because of autism (hi, i used to be this person!), you need to find at least some vegetables you can eat. find a different way to prepare them. chances are you would like a vegetable you hate if you prepared it in a stew or roasted it with seasoning or included it as an ingredient in a recipe. just. please start eating better. potatoes and corn are not sufficient vegetables for a healthy diet.

Need it to be easier?

  • baby carrots (good dipped in ranch)
  • Celery sticks (add some peanut butter or cream cheese for extra flavor and protein)
  • Broccoli (good with ranch, cheese, or salt/pepper/butter)
  • Canned peas (you can microwave in a microwave-safe bowl. Good with salt/pepper/butter)
  • Bell peppers (cut into strips, good with cream cheese)
  • Canned green beans (can be microwaved in microwave-safe bowl. Good with salt/pepper/butter)
  • Hummus (good with crackers or tortilla chips)
  • Salsa (good with tortilla chips)
  • Guacamole (good with tortilla chips)

Need it in something?

Can't see it:

  • Hummus
  • salsa
  • Guacamole

Can see but disguised flavor (can usually be found store bought or done at home and use different veggies):

Texture problems:

Need it soft:

  • Hummus
  • Salsa
  • Guacamole
  • Cooked carrots
  • Avocados
  • Beans (personally I prefer black beans and canned baked beans)
  • Peas (make sure to cook well, great value brand has the softest peas I've tried)
  • Cooked broccoli (note: it does smell bad while cooking)
  • Cooked asparagus (note: also smells bad while cooking)
  • Cooked zucchini and squash (good together but can be eaten separate)
  • You can also puree most vegetables and eat with a spoon or use them as a dip

Needs to be crunchy:

  • Raw carrots
  • Raw celery
  • Raw bell peppers
  • Salad (remember you can put whatever you want in it! Even if that means no lettuce)
  • Most veggies are okay raw, and are usually very crunchy

Veggies google says stay crunchy after lightly cooking:

  • Snap peas
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Cabbage
  • Water chestnut
  • Bamboo shoots

Broad texture tips:

  • You can change textures by eating raw, cooking, chopping, pureeing, etc
  • You can separate different textures to use in different ways (ie using broccoli tops in a soup and eating the bottoms raw)

It also really helps to think about why you dislike a vegetable. I found that I am scared of green foods so I like to use those veggies for ingredients in things they are well hidden for. I've also learned that watching something while eating helps because then I'm not looking at the gross green things. When possible, I also like to get help hiding it (ie using cream of celery soup in my chicken and dumplings).

Remember that vegetables are important because they contain nutrients that other foods don’t contain. NOT because they are low calorie.

Eating vegetables slathered in pork fat is always better than not eating vegetables. In fact fat will help you absorb the nutrients. Get those nutrients in your body by any means necessary.

This is a great take and I would like to adopt “Feelings Yakuza” in English actually, I feel like it conveys the whole thing way more obviously than “anti” (not to mention the muddled meaning of “proshipper”).

To avoid harassment, EA and SEA artists have started pre-emptively blocking users with "proship DNI" or any variation thereof in their profiles as a result of this article and said feelings yakuza are getting pissed that their DNIs are being hard enforced by the other side. How very dare.

I’m screaming with laughter at the actual Japanese term, o-kimochi yakuza. The “o” is an honorific indicator to indicate how prissy and self-important these people are being.

The power of friendship versus the power of incredible violence is a false dichotomy. The violence of which you are capable all by yourself lies firmly within the sphere of the credible. It is the power of friendship which enables the power of incredible violence.

More random tropes that I fucking love: Becoming the mask you wore.

Like oh shit, this character who was sent to spy somewhere under a false identity suddenly realises they've started to genuinely become the person they claimed to be? Someone who's been telling the same lies about who they are for so long that they're actually forgetting that the story isn't true? Finding themselves genuinely doing the things they pretend to do in front of people, when they're alone and nobody's watching? Answering to a name that wasn't supposed to be theirs without thinking?

Ooohh-hoh-hoh, you lost track of yourself in pretending to be someone else? You were only supposed to impersonate somebody, a plausible background and a name you came up with on the spot, and now that the people you were supposed to infiltrate have become your true companions? You lost yourself in the game you played, and no you no longer know who you truly are, and where your true loyalties lie? And both sides would mark you a traitor if you came out with the truth. On a scale of one to ten, how bad did you fuck up.

Fuck that is a good trope. Never seen it done badly. Pour that shit on a table and I'll chop it into lines and snort it.

It’s not what it looks like! Honestly, I would have preferred if it were what it looks like.
