I like Doctor Who, aSoIaF, Discworld, Black Sails, Gravity Falls, BBC Ghosts, among others. Feel free to ask or message if you want to shout about a show or something, or if you want something tagged. Header by carry-on-my-wayward-wuffles

Sorry for who-posting in the year 2019 but the Doctor is actually so named because he wrote and successfully defended a dissertation at an accredited university whereas the Master completed a 2-year graduate program in his chosen field, which points to the existence of a third less-advanced and less-specialized counterpart, the Bachelor

The Bachelor is never seen in the show because he’s still living with his parents on Gallifrey, listlessly applying for jobs and stress-eating

I thought the bachelor was being fought over by 12 women in a big house

galaxy brain:  The Bachelor Tv show has featured the same man for every season but he regenerates like the doctor

obsessed with the idea that the bachelor is ritually killed at the end of every season

realizing that sticking to the "do it bad" "do it scared" mentality implies theres also a "do it bored"

A stick figure, doubled over on all fours so its face isnt visible. Tears stream from its face, and its head and the floor below it are covered in blood.

I forget who originally said it, but there’s a quote about “Great science fiction isn’t predicting the automobile, it’s predicting the traffic jam”

(girl with adhd voice) yeah i just love in fiction when a character has a superpower thats also a disability. like a power that changes how they interact with the world in exciting ways but also has terrible drawbacks to their daily life. no real reason why

(girl with autism voice) yeah me too weird innit

the city where we live doesn't allow public barbecues so my brother fucking welded a grill to a handcart and now hosts "chill and grill sessions" where he sends all his friends his live location so they can hunt him down on their bikes with sausages in their backpacks while he carts it around evading the police like some sort of barbecue vigilante, grilling on the run. i have never been prouder of him

since mrs, ms, and mr are all descended from the latin word magister, i propose the gender neutral version should be mg, short for "mage"

I love media where a bunch of guys go into a cursed place where everything is fucked up, and then one by one they become fucked up. Love their little journals like “Day 28… Hector is worms now. Beginning to question our mission??”

there are 2 versions of any dr who season at the time it comes out:

1) the actual dr who season

2) the much cooler version of the same season created, goncharov-like, by fans theorizing about what everything could mean, which will slowly dissipate like sand running thru an hourglass as more and more episodes come out

I'm up to the "I dunno maybe children working 13 hour shifts is bad, guys" part of Capital and it feels important to inform people that haven't read it yet that capitalists in the 19th century were not by any means wringing their hands and twirling their mustaches about employing children to squeeze out profits, they were hiring "experts" to write newspaper articles for them, explaining how "well, the socialists have these big demands about an 8-hour work day, and taking Saturdays off, but it's actually just so complicated, it's too complicated for most people to understand, we just NEED to hire children for night shifts because the stamina of their strong, youthful bodies is the only way we can survive as a business! It's science, you see. Economics doesn't work like that, just ask our economics professors at Oxford. You CAN'T turn a profit only working people 8 hours! Trust the experts, they know. It's just so complicated..."

That exact infuriating cadence that you read in New York Times articles, in the Atlantic Monthly, in the WaPo and all the other bourgeois rags where "everything is so complicated, and it's actually a lot more complicated than you think.." that has been around since the beginning. It is nothing new. So the next time you see some op-ed from Matt Yglesias or any of those other guys huffing their own farts about how "complicated" everything is, and how "unrealistic" a 30-hour work week is, remember that Marx was dealing with that exact class of "intellectuals" "explaining" how working 13 hours at age 10 was "vital" to the "moral fibre" of those poor kids.

Charles III: Don't paint my hands or face red, I don't want people to think I've got blood on them.

Painter: Of course, your majesty.

I can't even process how they did this. It's covered in rough and scattered paintstrokes. It's detailed to a pintip. It's all symbolic. It's a king's portrait. The slight red tint to his hands and face obscured by the red that soaks the painting. The lighting looking like it's filtered through leaves. A monarch butterfly above his shoulder. I don't yet know the artist but god they deserve a museum if this is their work.

The artist is Jonathan Yeo, who is a world-famous portraitist.

He first got famous in 2007 when he made an unauthorized portrait of then US president George W. Bush made out of porn magazine clippings
