He twitched, frowning a bit. Honestly, he prided himself on being smart, on knowing quite a bit more than anyone else his age. He studied, and learned, about a wide variety of topics. He could recite kingdom laws from memory, could easily recall imports and exports of neighboring kingdoms as well as their own, and not only that, he had a great memory for formulas, mathematical equations, and even biology. He understood physics, astronomy, even history too.. He knew all of it, could talk about it all at length if asked to do so.
But to hear someone say, he didn’t know everything..? King Frederic was right, and Varian knew it. There were still a lot of things he wasn’t so well versed in, but.. Regarding what had happened to his father..? That.. That was one thing he was beyond well versed in by now..
“I’d bet I know quite a bit about this..” He replied. “I have tried everything possible to free my dad, and nothing has worked. What can you do that I haven’t already tried..?” For a brief moment, there was a note of hope in his voice. Maybe there was something the king had thought of that he hadn’t. Maybe there was that chance.. And.. Right now, as much as he may push others away.. Varian wanted to have hope. He wanted to believe that they could free his father, and that he could go home, and it would all work out all right..
