You can find me @warmindrasputin

Hello, everyone.

I'm moving main blogs. Been going through some old tags/posts lately on this one and so much of it is connected to years that reflect a person I'm not anymore. Don't worry! I'm still the same url and you'll see it following some of you who have been mutuals/friends for years. It's @warmindrasputin if you want to follow it first, I forget to follow you, or you simply enjoy seeing my reblogs/posts on your dash.

It's been 10+ years on this blog. I'm keeping it as a way to save certain tags and posts that would otherwise be completely lost. However, I think a fresh start is in order.

I'll have this post set on a schedule to reblog itself so everyone can see this. Love you all and hope to see you on the other side ♥️

Anytime i see a bunch of pride flags i have to restrain myself from saying "where mexico" bc i doubt anyone will know I'm referencing this

PSA: bot comments are taking over ao3

The above examples have been provided with the authors' permission to demonstrate what these look like.

Basic rundown:

  • They are all 3 sentences long
  • Perfect grammar, capitalization, and punctuation
  • Like absolutely flawless English teacher-style writing with only a single exclamation mark, ever
  • No mentions whatsoever of character names, settings, situations, or anything that could be tied to the story
  • The usernames may be identical to people who exist on ao3, but the name is not clickable, and no profile is associated with it EXCEPT when you directly search for that name. What this means: the comments come from an unregistered (not logged in) reader, bots scrape the site for real usernames, attach that to the comment, and post

Please spread the word about this so authors can filter comments and report them accordingly

There has been some speculation about why this is happening at all, and the best guess is that this is a feature that AI-training story-scraping tools are implementing to try and make their browsing traffic look legitimate

If wanting to avoid getting such comments, set your comments to "Registered Users Only" whenever you upload. You can also lock all your works to be read by registered users only.

If you have too many works to do that manually, on your Dashboard, go to "Edit Works" in the top right.

Select the little "All" button to checkmark all your works.

At the bottom, click "Edit."*

This opens the page where you can adjust basic settings for every work at once, like limiting who can comment, moderating comments, and/or locking your works.

And keep reporting any bot spam comments you find!

*Note this is also where and how you Orphan or Delete multiple works, so please be careful when making these selections!
