imo the fighting rules in the nhl are one of the places where player safety is taken most seriously (fights end when someone hits the ice, the refs are always ready to intervene, you have a buddy on the other team who you’re supposed to grab so there’s not a line brawl, just a one on one fight, you have to drop your gloves, etc) 

which is why when ppl are like “ew um it’s a good thing that there’s no fighting in women’s sports” not only are they 1) incorrect they’re 2) perpetuating the stereotype that women do not and should not be physical with each other in the same way that men are because we’re either too fragile to throw punches or supposed to be morally ~pure~ enough that we don’t feel the desire to
