It is coronavirus quarantine time and that means that I’ll be working on stuff. This stuff right here, actually. It’s a mashup I’ve thrown together super quickly and I’m really happy with the mesh and design of it. The armor isn’t done yet and the link in the sidebar has not been changed whatsoever. I just want to show what i’m working on.

The breast”plate” will be brigandine. Red velvet, with golden rivets. I might make a green version too. The armor itself will be fluted in the Maximilian style, or made in the style of gothic armour. Decoration! As for the underarmour, i want to make it colourful and give it some nice striped patterns. Yellow and black? Red and yellow? Who knows. I want to make a flashy armour in a medieval style!

I’m going to be relying on a lot of existing parts, namely some stuff from the plate ensemble and two pieces from the blackened steel plate. They will all get a retexture, but still, asset reuse. Sue me. In general, I want to make the design a bit more realistic. Normally i leave huge gaps in the armour for the sake of visual design but I’m done with that. This time, I’ll actually make some fucking tassets and add in some functional armguards. I’m also considering to reuse the cuisse from the blackened steel armour, as that one’s pretty good and got a nice protective sideplate. As it is now, though, it sits too low. Gotta fix that if I want to use it.

Anyway I’ll try to keep this page a bit more up to date as I am out of a job anyway for now and I like sharing progress online.

Cheers!

I’d started development on another outfit based on the Saskia armor from TW2 a few weeks ago. I relied on a lot of older things I made because, well, they were easy to use and I already had the project files for the textures lying around. It has also allowed me to try to work with mordhau assets for the first time, and it was an absolute joy.

The set is supposed to be the first step into my own art style. With other textures, I always tried to approximate a perceived stylistic standard for armor sets. Same cubemap, same way of doing materials with environment maps, everything. Now I tried something new, grittier, but still detailed and believable in my opinion. I am very satisfied with the way the textures for the arms and legs turned out, the metal parts that is. The cloth stuff I did not edit as they are the same as the original TAL textures.

This set is the reason why the Plate Ensemble and the Shieldmaiden’s Getup haven’t been released yet. I started something new as an experiment and before I knew it I had fallen in love with the design. I don’t want to release a pack with WIP stuff inside it as I like to operate on a fairly high standard when releasing my own work. I want things to be polished, good looking, and implemented sensibly. Just leaving an unfinished armor set inside a pack with high quality outfits is not something I want to do.

Luckily, the set’s almost done. All the pieces, bar for the pauldrons, are from armors designed for males. The lower chestpiece I can lift from the plate ensemble, the Gambeson is from my retexture from the Raubritter armor, and the mordhau parts are from the mordhau pack which is male-only. No overlapping pieces either, so no weighing bullfuckery to worry about either. Some pieces for the crafting materials are finished too, so that’s even less of an issue. I’m this close to releasing it and I want to make it top priority.

As for future, plans, I have some. But I will only talk about them when I have something to show, which right now is not the case. When this pack is done and released, I will make a new post as will I update one of the empty links in the sidebar. Those links will all be direct and updated links to my work.

After this set I could either try making gauntlets and boots to complete the set, or start working on more primitively-themed outfits, part clothing, part armor. The aesthetic of a plated lower body with a comfortable cloth torso really intrigues me, and I’d love to toy around with that. We’ll see what I’m gonna do.

For the one-pause challenge thing on Twitter…that I thought I was tagged in.
