just screaming into the void here but what i haven’t seen in the conversation on the death of the golden age of television yet is a mention of the return of ads. besides it’s being outrageous and rude that f.ex. amazon prime stealthily introduced ads into their paying tier this year, it also marks a return to the stiffled creative control of the pre-streaming era. many shows could not be as progressive as they wished and had to be watered down due to the influence of advertisers on the shows’ contents. netflix too has a tier that shows ads.
the influence (capital lol) has been removed from the consumers hands once again and placed back to the big, ad paying cooperations. not only that, the consumers are still paying but now with forced ads and way less power.
