A Quick Update!

After some reflection, I won't be continuing writing for personal reasons. At least not for anyone besides myself. I have gotten a wee bit into art though! If you'd like to check it out, I'll be sharing it on ko-fi and twitch for now

On that note, I've been following/mutuals with a handful of you for quite a while now. If you'd like to stay in touch and be more IRL-like friends, feel free to shoot me a DM and I'll share my discord and some other socials i feel comfy sharing.

Thank you to everyone who has supported my writing over the years <3

Hey y'all! I'll be catching up on tag games and chapter 1 here soon, I've just been a bit busy this week (started a couple of my online kitchen courses and just became head cook where I work and moving during a snowstorm).

Feel free to keep tagging me and you're always welcome to drop asks in the ask box! Writing, husband and cat rambles, and life updates are all fair game for the ask box.

See y'all soon!

An update from my writeblr page!

reblog if you’re transgender, genderqueer, or if you think you could survive being hit with a 14” shell fired from a Pennsylvania-class battleship

yes, you may reblog this post even if you’re not 100% sure you would survive a 14-inch shell

just a question for anyone who happens to see this:

what’s one memory you never want to forget?

When I was proposing, I picked a place where I thought people walked a loop. Therefore, by my sound logic, after the group who had passed was gone, they were gone for good.

I have severe social anxiety and wanted the proposal in a particular place but not a public proposal, but the place was public. Bit of a dilemma. So I was trying to time it right.

But the group *came back.* Either the loop was gone, or they felt like backtracking, but halfway through my husband reading my speech (see social anxiety-- i had written it) and just as I was getting on my knee, I saw the wave of people returning.

And this sweet man at the front IMMEDIATELY threw out his arms and held them all back. Our proposal remained semi-private and free of a major panic attack. He congratulated us softly on the way past. No one applauded. It was as if he knew I was shaking like a cat that heard a blender and had my back.

I will always treasure the memory of that lovely human aiding in my anxiety-riddled proposal.

The "Might as Well" principle for people with ADHD means leaning into your urge to take care of needs immediately when you notice them, and take that task-hopping tendency as an opportunity to "clean as you go".

You were probably raised to think there's only 1 "right" way to be productive. This is false. You don't need to (and honestly you CAN'T) become neurotypical, but you've probably spent a lot of your life striving to achieve success in a neurotypical way. This can be detrimental to your mental health. You have to learn what works best for YOU.

You don't need to feel guilty for not keeping a strict routine and an aesthetically pleasing home. Your goal should be keeping your environment (minimally) livable and safe.

This principle is intended to help with chore struggles, but it can also apply to personal care, and other areas of the ADHD struggle.

  • Going to the kitchen? Might as well bring as many dishes/cups as you can carry.
  • Going to the bathroom? Might as well wipe down the counter while you're in there (or for me personally, scoop the litter box while I'm there).
  • Taking a shower? Might as well scrub the shower walls while you're there (Be safe! I keep a utility sponge nearby for spot cleaning, but I don't use chemicals during my showers).
  • Forgot to brush your teeth in the morning? Might as well brush after lunch. No need to wait until the next "designated" teeth brushing time at bedtime (minimally, keep some floss picks, tooth wipes, or mouth wash at work/school).
  • Stuck in decision paralysis in front of the fridge? Might as well hydrate. Drink water!
  • Mount doom (laundry pile) giving you anxiety? Might as well pick one category, such as shirts, and sort them out. You don't even have to put them all the way away, just separate them so your doom pile looks smaller and less daunting.

Please feel free to add more!!

Waiting for the microwave to beep, or the pasta water to boil? Might as well see if you can get a few dishes done. You can’t empty a full sink in two minutes, but you can set the dirty stuff soaking, or wipe and rise some of the stuff that was already soaking.

Sometimes this leads me to actually finish cleaning the kitchen, sometimes it doesn’t, either way I have a few less dirty dishes in my life.

One of the awful things about not having a diagnosis (thanks Tories for fucking the NHS, that was cracking work, I hope you all get rabies) is that sometimes I find using these ideas and finding successful coping strategies for my ADHD makes me doubt myself.

'Clearly there's nothing wrong with me, I've got into a routine where my room isn't a mess. I made my bed today and remembered all my meetings.'

'Clearly I can't have ADHD I've just been making a fuss over nothing, I'm such a bastard.'

This voice is a liar.

Needing successful coping strategies for basic self care is not something that would be necessary if I didn't have ADHD.

Finding ways to cope in a world not designed for you, doesn't mean you're inventing your struggles.

Fun fact for indie authors who have their books in Ingram Spark:

You can apparently go to a Barnes and Noble, tell them your book is on IS, and they’ll order a copy for you to sign and do a little social media post about it when it’s in!

(Granted, it’s one copy, and you have to individually ask each B&N store, but it’s still cool.)

I found that out by shamelessly eavesdropping on a convo between customer service and a guy asking about book tours. The guy’s book wasn’t on Ingram, so there wasn’t much the person could do. I went up and said “hey my book is on Ingram, could I get that email address you mentioned?” And she was like “well I could just look it up now and order it?”

So there’s a B&N in my area that will eventually have a signed copy of The Stray Spirit! I’ll have to see if I can slip in a bookmark and a sticker, too…

YES!! Exactly!!

Education time.

The beauty of the Ingram Spark model is it is called Print on Demand, it means wherever Ingram distributes, you can order your book. Barnes and Noble, Waterstones, Wal-Mart theoretically can even order these books.

Spoiler, everywhere book metadata goes to, they can order from Ingram. Ingram is the single largest MEDIA distributor in the USA. Book distributor second only to Simon & Schuester (maybe, I donno I'm 5 years out of date).

Libraries are on this list too. If they get ONIX feeds (and trust me, all book retailers do) they can order your book through Spark. : )
