really fucking sucks that the catalyst for the mcelroy brothers' "downfall" was when one of them *checks notes* displayed symptoms of the mental illness he was very open about, in a way that was deeply embarrassing but ultimately pretty harmless

when travis came out about having npd, people were like, "you can't have npd, you're too nice! you're a deeply kind person!" because people with npd are monsters, right?

and then when he had a public meltdown about things not going his way in a social game, suddenly everyone couldn't shut up about how "annoying" he was, and every unrelated quibble anyone had with the mcelroys came to the fore. nevermind all that kindness. be rude one (1) time and you've lost your status as "one of the good ones".

i can't help but think about something he said on his podcast with teresa, about how he tends to dominate conversations without realizing it. they came up with a nonverbal signal for when he's doing that, so he can back down a bit. iirc, this was before he knew he had npd, so like, he was working to manage these tendencies on his own! he's as close to a "~good little narc~" as you could possibly get. he's everything people theoretically want from ppl with personality disorders. god forbid he slip one fucking time.

I was never a a Mcelroy watcher but I am a ChilledChaos watcher and I very much remember this stream as the rant felt like it came out for left field. This group is known for doing bits that can be annoying and very rarely are they in agreement that a bit needs to stop but when they do its understood that it needs to Stop so Travis going too far with a bit wasnt even a big deal to me as a watcher bcuz its happened before. The rant after was very much a surprise however, to the point that Chilled ended up having to mute his own stream audio as he didn't want his viewers having to listen to it.

We all (at least I did?) moved on fairly quickly after that. Travis wasn't invited back but we were told discussions happened off camera and everything was fine between everyone and we were oky with that. This group of streamers usually had a core group that played with an open door to new people that could either stay, leave, or quietly stop being invited and none of us ever know which but thats not our business to know, sometimes people just dont click like they thought they would, yknow?

Yeah I am an avid Kara Corvus watcher and had a similar experience. Get 10 big personalities in the same game and you're bound to have failed bits, disagreements, and some pissed off people who didn't have a lot of fun because they got ignored in the chaos of the game. It's happened to all of them at least once I bet.

I had only a passing familiarity with Travis's name and fame so going in blind, I also felt that Travis's rant felt a little out of nowhere and preachy, at worst condescending and annoying.. but if I remember right it reflected a lot of common sentiments of the group and to my understanding everyone involved moved on fine and I straight up forgot it happened. He stayed in their vc call late and had a neat convo on podcasting and streaming/entertainment career stuff it was cool. Thought he seemed chill.

Had no idea it was such a "big deal" til the sarahZ video as well. Insane to me that this one awkward rant was such a damning event.

adrienette keeping their secret identities from their kids is underrated. not only do i think it's more practical/safe (when i was a kid i told all my friends ALL of my parents' dirty secrets because i was very trusting of my friends and also had no solid concept of consequence) but also i think it's more fun to keep the identity shenanigans going. their kids thinking their parents are lame, meanwhile thinking ladybug and chat noir are sooooo cool.

like dad you're soooo lame, stop wanting to play board games with us while we're trying to watch the newest Ladybug and Chat Noir movie. god mom is always so busy and anxious, she's nothing like carefree confident ladybug. my brother dressed up as chat noir for halloween and for some reason it made my dad cry. i told my parents i thought Chat Noir and Rena Rouge had the most chemistry in the movies and they stared blankly at me. i snuck out at night to go to a friend's place and ladybug intercepted me on the street and was super freaked out about it for some reason. some kids at school found out i'm hawkmoth's grandkid and are being mean to me and told me ladybug and chat noir would hate me and it made me cry. mom says ladybug and chat noir LOVE ME SO MUCH but that seems like a stretch?? the other night i heard SOMETHING eating VORACIOUSLY in our cheese cabinet and when i ran to my parents' room to tell them about it they AVIDLY denied it and THEN claimed it was a mouse but how the fuck did a mouse get up there??? why are they so shifty???? and WHO keeps eating my COOKIES
