Poll because I'm curious as to how everyone is consuming/rewatching so much media when I watch maybe a season of 2 different series per year and maybe 2 podcast episodes per month and can't find time for anything else. What are you doing.

I'm realising the reason I don't consume very much media is probably because I cannot for the life of me multitask and if I want to watch or listen to something then I am locking the fuck in. Besties am I alone in this

A lot of fantasy goes with Tolkien explanation of fantasy racism being the result of ancestral grudge.

Then you got Dungeon Meshi which is like:

"Elves and Dwarves hate each other because their respective empires make up 2/3 of the imperial core and are stuck in a cold war as the planet runs out of uncolonized land to grab. Elves are able to live in pastoral paradise because they've horded most of the settings farm-able land and natural capital, displacing and mass murdering any natives in the process. Orcs and goblins are hostile to other races because there the primary targets of an ongoing slavery and genocide campaign. The dividing line between human and inhuman is arbitrarily assigned via a phrenological pseudo-science that quickly falls apart when questioned by anyone who wasn't indoctrinated into it since birth."

FUCK...... Fawx & Stallion lures you in with charmingly ridiculous plot hooks, takes you off your guard with goofy puns and cartoony anachronisms, and then hits you with maybe the BEST character writing you've heard all year, as part of a rapid-fire series of scenes in which every detail of the entire season is revealed to have been building up an intricate web of character mirrors and emotional parallels and I am LOSING MY MIND OVER IT

No actually I'm not done. This part will be more spoilery so behind a cut it goes:

Truly never in a million years imagined people would be engaging with the text of our little show to this degree, or even willing to stay with us past the silly jokes. Overwhelmed in the best way, not a Madge-Stallion-with-the-press way. We really hope you love the last two episodes, detective!

A Note on Watches

part 1 / part 2 / part 3

was watching Conclave with my friend and being a watch nerd, he notes:

Lawrence

Lawrence was wearing something like an Orient Bambino (possibly passed down). Watches like that are from the eighties.

Clearly, it's not embellished, and worn over time. A used Orient Bambino exudes decorum without being flashy. Pragmatic and cultured.

Bellini

Bellini's watch was quite simple as well.

Potentially an Omega De Ville or more likely a classic Seiko Dolce. Also an old model, implying that he's worn it for some time.

(Apparently, the Omega De Ville doesn't have the same angles) Regardless, people who opt for tank faces (square watches) tend to be ambitious. Simultaneously, they want to project humility.

'He's been doing all the right things to get what he wants,' says my friend. 'He's been curating his image.'

Benitez

Benitez's Casio f-91w is a functional watch.

'It exists just to do its job,' says my friend (Nate). 'No fanfare. It tells time and like [Benitez's] character, it's not trying to show up anybody. It just does its job.'

Considering this Casio costs 12 TIMES less than Bellini's Seiko Dolce, you might think this is a humble watch.

But it's not even that. It's an 'I exist' watch.

Well well well, look who has time to write an audio drama Sunday post this week!

🎭 I have the same feelings as everyone else about @224bbaker this week (which is to say AAAAAAAAA). Truly there is no experience more mortifying and better for the soul than improv. And as usual, I love the team stumbling ass over teakettle into the right answer right at the end. This team is KILLING it this season.

🎬 I've been listening to Good Story Guild's new podcast, In Media Res, and y'all...holy crap. Do you like messy emotional drama? Do you like real world implications? Do you want a no-punches pulled look at an industry that claims to be about art? Then watch best friends Alex and Coen attempt to make good on The Lucky Break of a lifetime, and watch every single thing it costs them. The episode this week nearly killed me.

🌚 I find that there are so many good horror anthologies that it's possible to get lost in the weeds sometimes. Thirteen, Nightlight, and Waterlogged all do a really good job of distinguishing themselves. But no one is scarier or better than @goodpointepodcasts' Someone Just Like You. And this episode....sheesh, Sarah Golding is an absolute legend, and the cadence and familiar commercial nature of the way our narrator talks about moon rock is...chilling.

🌺 My beloved Bardic Hearth used this week's episode to open up the worldbuilding around the pantheon in this fantasy world. It is so fun to hear gods bickering like children, and it does an excellent job of setting up the stakes of this tiny inn in this dangerous forest. Something's Up. I can't wait to find out what.

🕵️‍♂️ I've been listening to Mission: Rejected, and folks, if you've been looking for an audio drama sitcom, this is the one for you. It's fast-paced and madcap and hilarious. The premise is that these are the adventures of the backup team to their James Bond analogue, and they're only sometimes competent. It's a sitcom format with a wholesome center, I just listened to the season finale and I am worried about my girl McGrath, is she good???

⛽️ I've also been catching up on Tales of THATTOWN, a horror comedy set in a fictional Appalachian Alabama town, made by the people who live there, lovingly and incessantly razzing their home. It is so funny. It feels like hanging out with those dudes you know who make questionable choices but are so much fun. Sure, Tyler, you're a wizard and an IT expert, let's go check out this abandoned rest stop that's definitely a Jigsaw trap. Why not.

I'm trying to wrangle words out of my brain to get Inn Between written, but I'm also trying to fight my way through the last few weeks of school. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated. As are your tips, if you feel like it.

See you soon!

You seat a table of three for breakfast and the woman says hmm yes I will have a loaded waffle tower please and you say ma'am that's a children's item and she says so and you say okay fine and the man who brought a whole laptop in says ah, I will have what the lady is having and an orange soda and you say for breakfast and he says of course and then the guy who is clearly a criminal says what kind of bread do you use for your French toast and you say ... White and he says can I sub brioche and you say we don't have brioche and he sighs and says I'll get the rooty tooty... Whatever the cowboy omelette and the other two start razzing him about being a cowboy and when you come to check up on them the woman is playing airplane with the loaded waffle tower trying to get the criminal to eat it and they tip $200 and your watch has been replaced with a better watch
