why don't people in zombie apocalypse stories ever just wear suits of armor? you think any zombie is gonna get their shitty rotting jaws through this?

I'm gonna rip and tear my way through the zombie apocalypse completely unharmed because none of the undead hoards will be able to get through my plate mail

everyone else is like "oh we gotta stay inside the most secure places possible and never leave" and I'll be storming through the wastelands in my bloodstained suit of armor, blasting the Doom (2016) OST and plowing my way through waves of the undead. one of them tries to bite me but his shitty rotting teeth don't even leave a dent in my armor before I turn his head into paste. I'll be unstoppable until I die of dehydration or something like an idiot

this goes along with my other pet peeve about zombie apocalypse stories, namely: why does no one ever think to ride a bike?

bikes are quiet- if the zombies react to loud noises, they won’t hear you on a bike the way they might hear you in a car. bikes don’t need gas, meaning you won’t be stranded if you run out. bikes are much, much easier to maintain than a car- there’s no computer that can short out, no fiddly engine bits that could kill you if you mess with them wrong. you can learn how to maintain a bike with a couple weeks’ worth of classes. almost every adult knows how to ride a bike, and without cars on the road, it’d be much safer to do.

what i’m saying is

American author Mark Twain (b. 1835) lurches from his grave only to give you a massive thumbs up and die again

Mark Twain essentially invented the genre of a bystander sent into a time-travel sci-fi plot just to get someone to draw this image for him. And today we can simply search for such a picture. It is a time of wonders

And here we have a picture with my DnD Charakter riding his dinosaur mount (the campaign he’s currently in is Tomb of Annihilation so the dinosaur is not too exotic there). This is again a collaboration with my wife. She was supposed to only help me with the face but ended up sketching the entire human character.

So far the switch case mod has been uneventful, but it looks like I need to wait for the new Rubber mat until I can proceed.

Poor A Button o7

Getting the LCD out wasn't as bad, though I am not sure if this corner will actually result in Pixel damage....

I cleaned everything and put the components as far together as I could at this point.

I briefly considered putting it back together to test the screen, but I don't feel like putting it all apart again just to add the functional button mats.

Components waiting in the cold to be re-assambled...

My gummi mats finally arrived in the snail mail, way faster than expected.

Thank you kind seller from Wuppertal ovo

And we're back.

Everything seems to work as normal and the buttons feel normal again.

Getting the R button installed was a bit of a hassle but the other stuff was fine.

The only thing that bugs me is that one spot does not close as much as it should.

I will open it and reajust the speaker... It seems to stick out a bit, even though it felt good during installation process.

I’ve seen this one doing the rounds a few times (and it makes me cry every time I see it), but was curious about the original Latin text, so I did some digging: it’s a shortened version of CIL 10, 00659, a tombstone from Salernum (modern Salerno, Italy). (source; CIL is the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum).

Portaui lacrimis madidus te, nostra catella,
Quod feci lustris laetior ante tribus.
Ergo mihi, Patrice, iam non dabis oscula mille
Nec poteris collo grata cubare meo.
Tristis marmorea posui te sede merentem
Et iunxi semper manib(us) ipse meis
Morib(us) argutis hominem simulare paratam,
     Perdidimus quales hei mihi delicias.
Tu, dulcis Patrice, nostras attingere mensas
    Consueras, gremio poscere blanda cibos,
Lambere tu calicem lingua rapiente solebas,
Quem tibi saepe meae sustinuere manus,
Accipere et lassum cauda gaudente frequenter

And here’s my translation:

Wet with tears I have carried you, our little (female) dog, just as I did in happier times fifteen years earlier (lit. “three periods of five years).  For myself, Patrice, now you will not give me a thousand kisses nor will you be able to lie lovingly around/against my neck.  I have sorrowfully placed you, merit-worthy, in a marble tomb and I have joined you always to myself in death, as by your cleverness you matched a human.  Alas, we lost such pleasures for myself!  You, sweet Patrice, were accustomed to join us at our table, to beg charmingly for food (while sitting in our) laps.  You were in the habit of greedily licking our cups with your tongue, which my hands often held for you.  Frequently and joyfully (you) receive a weary one with your (wagging) tail...

tl;dr: this dog was named Patrice and was very, very loved.  (another translation with some glossing of the text.)

Welp. Things get weird with the anesthesia department from time to time. Today a patient, left unsupervised for 5 whole minutes in her room at the surgical ward, chewed her central line out...

I clearly follow too many vet med blogs, because I'm pretty sure something trying to chew out a line is pretty damn common...and I was wondering where the twist was.

Yup. The twist is that we are a human hospital.

Here's the full suit! It's in Japan ofc haha. And not a fursuit! This person is just costuming as a human-sized cat. Not anthro or related to the furry fandom. Kid me would have cried tears of joy if I saw this irl. Cat but big. Very Beatrice Potter.

Ugh, I keep seeing this post and it keeps rankling me every time.

It's an amazing fursuit.

Yes, it is a fursuit. Yes, "costuming as a human-sized cat" is fursuiting. Yes, the creator (Mikeneko Yamada) is a fursuit maker specializing in cat suits, but has also made a tanuki, a bear, a shiba inu, a frog, and several more that I've seen. Yes, the fursuit is both hyper-realistic and anthro (it's on two-legs, thus exhibiting human-like behavior and that's all anthropomorphic really means). No, fursuits don't have to be cartoony sparkledogs to be fursuits. Hyper-realistic fursuits (like this) and quadsuits exist. They are still fursuits. Yamada, the creator of this fursuit, blogs their exact process making fursuits with the EXACT same processes other fursuit makers use to make fursuits, down to the jawsets and head rigs and air fans absent from many non-furry mascot costume work. This is a fursuit.

And that's okay!

Idk why people feel the need to distance themselves from liking furry. It's such a wide genre. It's not all Disney's Robin Hood, Beatrix Potter's art is furry art too! People like to try and compartmentalize it into the tropes that make them cringe but for everyone out there participating in furry fandom some way you don't personally like, there's another person out there doing something like this you think is cute or fun or interesting. It's diverse, and people on the internet need to stop acting like they're allergic to furries every time they see a furry do something they actually like.

the germans have a freeform breed called the Elo which is basically eurasiers crossed with sheepdogs and any other stuff so long as they have a chill companion temperament, and a lot of them just look like piebald eurasiers. i'd be lying if i said i didn't want one someday, it really makes me wish white spotting was allowed in the purebred eurasier i think its cute

the krauts are obsessed with with throwing old english sheepdog into the mix though
