Hi y’all, it’s me! This is hard for me to do because I like to think I’m independent and don’t need help but this is important to me and I’m rly struggling!

Long story short: I was accepted to a French language program in France and I’m having difficulty raising the money for course tuition/residence. The course tuition is 550 euros while residence is 450 euros, coming to a total of 1000 euros (approx. 1500 Canadian dollars). Since there is no meal plan, I must also budget for food and other expenses while I am away.  And because this program is not a part of an official exchange (i.e., those done in the regular school year), I am ineligible for government student loans and must pay out-of-pocket. As someone who is interested in learning French for my career as a health practitioner in Canada as well as developing a greater understanding of global health by spending time on a different continent, I find that experiences like these are extremely valuable but often inaccessible to those who do not have the funds or resources to take part in them.

Lastly, as a Black Muslim woman from a low-income family, I know all about the struggle that comes with being different & not having the resources/opportunities to break into spaces where we just don’t SEE people like us. I sincerely believe that financial barriers shouldn’t prevent people from taking part in opportunities that could further their journey in becoming the best they can be.
