Kai Hunt/Vampire married to Clary

Clary hadn’t expected Kai to show up.  She didn’t even know how he found them but now that he was there, the cat was definitely out of the bag.  She took a step toward him but Nicolette was faster, practically throwing herself at the vampire.  This was her literal worst fear but she tried not to over think it.  Kai didn’t look happy to see the other woman.  If anything he seemed terrified but that’s what happen when you saw ghosts.  “This was what Boyd was hiding the last few weeks,” she told him, not sure what else she could really say.  She was trying to gauge this reaction.  Would he be happy to see her?  Thrilled?  Angry?  She had no idea.
Image
He looked terrified and who could blame him for it? She wanted ot hold him and kiss him an tell she was sorry for not seeing it coming but she couldn’t yet. She needed to give him a moment. “A witch brought me back. I don’t know anymore than that unfortunately. Neither does Boyd but I found him and I stayed with him because he’s family right? He’s always been family.”

Boyd was hiding...Nicolette? He was still trying to process the fact she was there. Physically there and speaking to him claiming a witch had brought her back. He wasn’t sure he even bought it. “No. You’re not here. I don’t know whose idea this was but it’s not funny,” he said in denial. “No.” Taking a step back he shook his head, glancing at Clary with hurt written all over his face.

Just as Nicolette predicted, Clary followed close behind.  The building was a dump but at least they were there.  The inside was probably better than the outside anyway; that’s how it seemed to be with these older homes.  She frowned at her, wondering what she was so damn happy about.  Nothing about the situation should put a smile on her face but there it was.  She glanced at the phone just for a second, wondering how she got that, then turned back to the crowd, trying to see what- or rather who- caught Nicolette’s eye.
Image
Nicolette took a step away from Clary, waiting for Kai to be closer before she bolted and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Look at you. I’ve missed you so much,” she told him though she hadn’t expected to barely get it out before she was pushed backward. She couldn’t blame him, she had crept up on him basically. “Don’t you recognize me?”

Kai had been at work when he got the odd text from Boyd. Wasn’t Clary supposed to have gone and seen him? When he didn’t get a response did his usual tactic in finding him. Maybe it was nothing but he wasn’t going to sit by. If Clary hadn’t gone yet then he’d just handle it himself. He followed the direction the phone was giving him as to where Boyd was, but one he was close he was nearly knocked over by someone. He pushed her away, staring at her for a long moment. Closing his eyes he shook his head and opened them again but she was still there. Impossible but she was there. “Clary, what’s going on?” Kai asked, his tone quiet as he almost didn’t notice her there. Not when he was still staring at Nicolette like the ghost she was to him.

“Probably.  Tiny bitch,” Clary teased.  She tried to get all her cussing out first thing in the morning before Hazel got up.  It was funny how the child wasn’t related to them at all but there were things she caught that reminded her of herself or Kai.  She wondered if Hazel’s real family would even recognize her if they ever saw her again.  “There you go,” she nodded with a smile, “you guys go on a trip too.  It’ll be fun.  I’ll bring it up to him when I see him later,” she added.  “Love you more,” she said with a bigger smile, glad to see he was happier and not worrying about Boyd.  “I’ll call you later with an update.  Have fun at work.”
Image
“She’s going to be just like you. Watch it.” Kai was betting on it. He could see Hazel some of Clary’s personality and that alone would be interesting to watch. “It’d be like old times. Maybe that’s what he needs.” Everyone needed a breather away from the usual from time to time he thought. One reason he liked the little trips him and Clary tried to do still. As much fun as I can,” Kai told her, though she had to know well enough how much he did enjoy the job. Making sure e had everything he went to sneak in to give Hazel a kiss before he headed off.

“Oh I’m so sure,” Clary teased.  “Did you know she was trying to say ‘cat’ the other day but she still refuses to call me mama?  I swear she does it just out of spite.  Every time I try to get her to say it she just laughs at me.  Such a brat.”  She probably got that from Clary though, let’s be honest.  “Alright, thanks.  If you want, when I get back, you and Boyd or you and Abbey can go on a little trip.”
Image
“It’s because you want it so badly. She’s probably just messing with you,” Kai said with a hint of amusement as he tugged on is outfit  for the day and then grabbed his watch to put on. “Gets it from you,” he teased further. It was funny the little things that Kai did notice that were very much like Clary that Hazel had picked up. “I tried to call Abbey and haven’t heard anything. I’m guessing she’s busy with school  but maybe if Boyd’s not busy I can see if he wants to do something.” It would be nice for the two of them to do something again given how long it had been. It was just a matter of if he wasn’t busy like he seemed to be. “I’m going to sneak in and give Hazel a kiss before I go.” Kai walked back over to the bed and leaned over to give Clary a kiss. “I love you.”

Clary snorted and looked at him like he was crazy for a second, “you think I won’t be calling every hour to check in on you guys?  Fat chance,” she said finally climbing off him.  “It’d only be a couple days and I promise to give you plenty of updates.  He said it was important, where ever we’re going, and I want to be there to support him.”  She still had no clue where Thomas wanted to go but she’d go along with anything at this point given all the stuff he’d done for her.
Image
“I expect daily phone calls then. Hazel’s going to miss you as much sa I will.” He was sure that would prove to Clary about her not just being a daddy’s girl once she wasn’t there and Hazel took notice. “I can handle a couple of days,” he confirmed as he up to find some cloths for work and throw those on. “It’s alright. That’s your best friend so I get it. If Boyd asked me I’d want to go too.”

“It’s probably nothing,” she said again, trying to reassure him.  Maybe she shouldn’t have brought it up after all.  “Yeah of course,” she said leaning down and giving him a quick kiss.  “It’ll be fine Kai.  Then Friday we’ll have a big party and everything will go back to normal.  Actually, I wanted to talk to you about something else, while I have you here.  Thomas wanted to take a little trip for a couple days and was wondering if I’d join him.  I said I’d have to talk to you first since I wouldn’t want to just leave you and Hazel so suddenly.”
Image
“Yeah I know.” He hoped anyway. It wasn’t like Boyd to act like that, but he tied to remain calm about it as he gave Clary a kiss and nodded. He’d believe her for the time being until proven otherwise. “A trip?” He knew she had talked about it before and wanting to hang out with Thomas more, but that was news to him. “I could watch Hazel no problem. I could get your sister to help if work gets busy too. I know you said something about something like that before. I don’t mind, but just keep in touch.”

Clary didn’t mean to worry him.  She just assumed if anyone knew what was going on, it’d be Kai.  “Hey,” she said with a little smile, “I bet it’s nothing.  It was just some texts so I’m sure I’m overthinking it.  Maybe he finally got himself a girlfriend.  Then we could go on double dates.”  She said trying to think positives.  “Going to check on him might be good to do though.  Hazel and I can do it so you don’t miss work.”
Image
“I hope it’s nothing,” Kai sighed. He worried about Boyd like he’d worry about a brother to be honest. He was pretty much family at this point in their lives. “Maybe that. Wouldn’t that be a nice change?” He doubted that one though for all sorts of reasons that he wasn't about to dredge up. “Would you? Then you could call me and let me know.”

“That’s what I was saying!  He was all weird about it too.  He was all ‘you know I’d do anything to keep you and Kai and Hazel safe right?’  And I’m all ‘yeah, I know, are you in trouble?’  And he’s all ‘no it’s fine’.  Like clearly something is going on with him.”  She was obviously very annoyed about being in the dark about it.  “He really hasn’t said anything to you?”
Image
Kai grew more concerned the more that Clary told him and it took a lot not to jump up right then. “He hasn’t mentioned anything. He barely takes my calls or anything. I get a few short words and that’s it,” he answered. “I should go over there.”

Clary stared at him for a while as if trying to read him to see if he was lying or not but in the end she decided he was innocent after all.  “Fine.  I believe you,” she said crossing her arms and sitting back a little, not moving off him though.  “He’s acting so weird.  He texted me saying he couldn’t come to Hazel’s party and I told him he didn’t have a choice.  And he’s all ‘oh I guess I’ll go for a few hours’,” she said in a horrible mock Boyd impression.  “I just figured you two had something planned and it was all a joke to try and make me think otherwise.”
Image
“That doesn’t sound like him.” Kai frowned, wondering what was up. Usually if something was wrong Boyd would call him or text.. Anything but the complete silence he had managed to get over the last few weeks. He barely said a word. Calls were cut short or he wouldn’t respond to messages period. He had assumed it was a work thing, but Boyd had dropped off the radar at races too. “Something about that doesn’t feel right.”

“You can’t fool me,” Clary said not budging from her spot on top of him.  “Boyd is up to something.  And if he’s up to something, you’re up to something.  We already have a house, we got married, we have the bar.  Which means you’re planning something bigger for Hazel’s birthday and I want in on it.  I promise I won’t tell her anything.”
Image
“Is he?” That was news to him though he was curious now as to what it was. “Clary, I promise  I am not up to anything. Yeah I got her a bunch of stuff, but nothing overly insane like you’re probably imagining. I’m innocent in whatever Boyd is planing on. did he give you any hints?”

Clary didn’t want to wait until Kai got home from work to talk to him, so she decided the next best thing was to catch him before work.  She didn’t bother to wait for him to get up yet either.  She just sat on him and poked his forehead, “okay.  Spill.  Did you get Hazel a yacht for her birthday?  Or a pony?  Because the fucking alligators around here would eat it and I’d make you clean it up.”  It probably seemed random to him for her to ask something like that but she’d been thinking about it all night.  “I know you’re up to something so you might as well tell me now.”
Image
It was still pretty early and Kai had yet to roll out of bed for work when Clary had other plans. He laughed, trapped and stuck where he was as she interrogated him. “Hm didn’t think of a pony but now..” he teased of course, putting his hands on her hips. “I’m not up to anything. Where did this come from?”

“Well I didn’t know that when we moved here!”  Granted, when they lived more into the city, they didn’t have to worry as much.  More people, less land and all that.  “There’s going to be a strict ‘no doors left open’ rule from now on.  If it didn’t eat Hazel, it’d probably eat Freebie!”  Not that the cat was interested in being outside anyway.  “Thank you,” she said with a relieved sigh.  “Sorry for freaking you out I’ve just never seen one that close before and I was scared for Hazel.”

“No? I guess I left that out.” He grinned though he knew Clary didn’t find the situation funny whatsoever. “Oh it would eat the cat. Sorry to tell you but it would mistake it for something else. Same with Hazel because she’s small, but I promise you that you guys are safe.” He walked over and gave Clary a kiss on her cheek “I always keep my girls safe don’t I?” Even if in this case it was from a alligator in the yard but none the less. He fished his phone from his pocket, making the call real quick and saying a thank you for them handling it so that Clary would ultimately calm down in the end. “You’re alright. They’re sending someone out so within the hour like I said. I thought someone broke in or something.”

“Oh, okay, sure, let’s just pretend the giant lizard is normal,” Clary said still in hysterics.  She’d run into larger animals like wolves and lions and crocodiles on her travels before but that didn’t mean she wanted them to just show up at her house.  Especially when she had a baby and a cat to worry about.  “What if that thing got in the house?  What if it got in and I went to the bathroom and I come back and Hazel is alligator chow?”

“It is normal around here. It’s where you live,” Kai pointed out. He closed the door for Clary’s sake though. “They can’t open doors so I bet you’d be fine unless you left one open for some reason. Honestly it’s alright. I’ll call and then they will get rid of it within the hour. Promise.” He tried to be reassuring but he figured it didn’t help much.

“Of course that’s why I barricaded the house!”  Clary shouted, shocked he didn’t see this as a problem at all.  “Wait, where are you going?”  She asked following close behind.  “Kai don’t fuck around with those things!”  She said before she could catch herself.  Hazel didn’t seem to be paying attention anyway.  “Don’t open the door!  It’s going to get in and eat us!”  She screamed, half hiding behind one of the couches.  “That’s not funny!  This is a serious problem!  How can you be so calm about a man eating monster being in the backyard?  What if Hazel was playing out there?”

“Clary, if you don’t mess with them they won’t do anything. We still need to call animal control, but as long as we don’t poke at it it’s fine,” Kai reassured as Hazel laughed, pointing at the animal as she thought it was amusing. “Alligators don’t eat people usually. Calm down. Hazel wouldn’t have been out there alone so you would have spotted it. That point doesn’t count. This is totally normal. They sometimes wander inward depending on the weather.”

Clary seemed relatively on edge but was glad he was finally home.  “Okay, so I don’t want to freak you out-” probably too late for that- “but there’s a fricken dinosaur outside the house!”  She shouted pointing out the window.  It wasn’t a ‘dinosaur’ per say but sure enough there was a fair sized alligator laying out by the tire swing in the backyard.

“A dinosaur?” Kai was more confused then ever for a minute before he went to the window and saw exactly what she was on about. He saw the alligator and couldn’t help a slight laugh. “That’s what you called for? That’s why you barricaded the house?” he asked first. “I thought someone broke in. Come on, Haze.” Kai carried her on his hip as he maneuvered past all the weird traps again to go downstairs. This time he opened the backdoor once that was out of his way and pointed out the animal. “That’s a alligator, Hazel. You can try gator. Can you say that? They don’t bug you if you don’t bug them.”

“In here!”  Clary shouted from inside their bedroom.  There were a few blockages upstairs too but not nearly as much as in the main rooms downstairs.  Clary was looking out the window, staring at something while Hazel sat on the bed, completely oblivious to anything weird going on.  She was busy playing with her toys until she saw Kai and did her usual ‘dada!’ and flailed her arms to be held.

What could possibly be the reason for all the crazy blockades Clary had managed to put up? He was going through a whole list of bad scenarios in his head as he found them in the bedroom. Picking up Hazel he was all smiles greeting her if to just not freak her out. “What’s going on?”
