Charles had nearly made it to his car when he realized that his knife was gone. ’You idiot! The cops could use that to get fingerprints!
Quickly his turned and made his way back into the park where he had stashed his latest victim. As he approached the area he saw the figure of another woman standing over his victim. ‘Shitshitshit! Now I gotta kill another one.’ Quickly and quietly he snuck over, but stopped when the woman spoke.
“I, uh… what are you doing here?”

Valdís chuckled at the man’s surprise. She grabbed the knife off the ground and examined it before handing it back to him.

“Just my job. Thankfully you already did the big part of my job for me, so it’s only right for me to return your knife to you.” She explained before kneeling in front of the dead woman once more, pressing her gloved thumb in the center of the woman’s forehead and the body disappeared as her soul was transported down to Hela. Valdís stood once more and turned to the man with a smile, “I rather admire your work, I must admit.”

To say that Valdís was a fan of serial killers would be a bit of an understatement. Part of why she appreciated serial killers was because they did her job for her. Instead of her having to deal with people bitching and moaning about how they didn’t want to die, she just had to wait for a serial killer to take care of them for her, as the list Hela gave her often featured people who were marked for death by murder.

This was the case for a young woman in Chicago who was on Valdís’s list.

The goddess trailed the woman down back alleyways, watching from the shadows as a man slowly stalked her. She then watched with a smirk on her face as the man strangled the life out of her before letting her body collapse to the ground. The man turned around and his face was lit up by the streetlight and Valdís was slightly surprised by how handsome he was. Piercing blue eyes and long dark hair, his face was classically beautiful and Valdís couldn’t help but wonder what led such a gorgeous man to a life of crime. She didn’t wonder for too long as soon as the man left, Valdís approached the body and got to work, drawing a strange symbol on the dead woman’s forehead in her own blood. However, the moment before she was about to send her soul to Hela, the man returned, as he had dropped a large red knife by the woman’s body. Valdís froze when he saw her, running a gloved hand through her dark hair as she turned to face him.

“I think you dropped something.” She commented snarkily.

“I can’t control myself…. I became the monster I used to be and I don’t deserve to be around her or our unborn child. I don’t want to hurt her…” He whimpered, running a hand through his hair before sliding down the alley wall and putting his head in his hands.
“I lied to her about my past. I lied to her about my true age and what I did before I was reawakened in the 1400’s. And what I did was disgustingly horrible. It was so bad it would make you look like a saint.” He explained, “I love her so much but I doubt she’ll take me back… she loves the man, not the MONSTER!!” He snarled the last words, his face contorting in anger once more.

The fire in his chest turned into guilt when he realized that now two of the men she loved hurt her. “So you believe that by being that monster you will better this situation?” He said bitterly. “Or did you just give up on her and her child? The only thing you’ve done is prove to her you are that monster. No more a man than rabid dog.”

He tossed the tissue he had originally offered to Vlad towards him and it wafted gently through the air. “Clean yourself up. If I found you this easily, the Red Sector won’t be far behind, and this time I won’t be around to save you.”

Judas shoved his hands into his jacket pockets as he walked out of the alley. He headed straight for Gemina’s shop.

He wasn’t entirely sure how this was going to go. What even were his intentions? Judas wasn’t sure, but what he did know was that he had to do something. He had to check on her.

Entering into her shop was hard enough, but when he saw the state of it his heart sunk further. The meticulously kept shelves, the shining displays, and the scent of burning candles were still there, but something felt off. The highest shelves and heaviest displays were left unattended.

“Gemina?” He questioned as he searched through the store. “Are you here?” He found her in the backroom with her hands busy with a project. She smelled almost human and it made his chest tighten at the sight of her. “I-..” He swallowed when her grey eyes lifted to look at him, a hallow smile on her lips. “Gemina, I have news..”

“I’m already a monster. Just get the FUCK out of here. If you don’t, I’ll snap your fucking neck.” Vlad threatened, his face still horrifically disfigured and contorted. When Judas left, Vlad took off again, running through back alleyways before unfortunately coming across an entire Red Sector squadron.

When they threatened him again, Vlad was so feral he easily eliminated the entire fleet without breaking a sweat. And when he heard another noise, his head whipped around and he growled and snarled wildly. His face was covered in blood and his fangs appeared extended. His eyes were sunken in and his veins were popping out under his dead skin.

Around twenty feet down the ally Gemina stood in horror with Judas barely a foot behind her. Tears were forming her eyes as she looked over the destruction her lover had caused.

“Vlad..” She squeaked, her voice as small and quiet as a church mouse. “My love..” Blood from the bodies of the hunters was pooling and moving down the alley like a crimson plague. The terror in her features was clear as she trembled with each step forward that she took, holding her arms out towards Vlad. Even in just a weeks time she had gotten plumper her stomach now obviously pregnant.

“Gemina, stop.” Judas commanded. He had hoped that seeing Gemina would stop Vlad, but worried it might enrage him more. “Shut up, Judas!” Gemina croaked as she stopped moving. “Vlad,” She pleaded “please.. Please come home.. I’m sorry, I’m sorry I yelled at you.. This isn’t the man I love, you were right! You were a man, a loving-.. Protective.. Gentle man.. I was wrong and selfish and angry.. Please come home to me, Vlad.. We can be a family..”

Vlad backed away from her into the darkness, snarling even louder at her as his red eyes sparkled through the blackness of the alleyway.

“I used to be a man…. that man died 3000 years ago… I’ve killed thousands, I’ve raped hundreds, I’ve burned cities to the ground just for the hell of it! How can you say I’m still a man after that? I’m no more of a man than Judas is a loving husband. He turned you against your will, atleast I had the dignity of asking my victims if they wanted to die!” Vlad hissed bitterly at Judas, staring at Gemina’s stomach for a moment as his face began to slowly return to normal.

Before Judas could say anything to worsen the situation Gemina turned to him and waved him off. “Go. I don’t need you here.” He stared back in disbelief. “Are you mad? He will kill you!” Judas started to approach her and she kicked some of the blood from the ground at him, splattering it across his clothes. “Go!” A low growl escaped between his lips, but he agreed and walked out of the sight.

Once he was gone Gemina turned back to Vlad with a tired smile. “No, you were right.. YOu are still a man.. Every man has his demons. Yours are just more powerful than others..” She noticed how his attention was on her stomach and she put a hand on it, her fingers gently stroking the bump. “A monster would not have cradled me in his arms when I could not sleep. It would not have stuck around when I lost my mind..”

“Please let me hold you, Vlad.. Let me hold you like you held me.. Let me love you, let me give you the life you gave me..”

The moment she placed his hand on her stomach, his face returned to normal. He felt the heartbeat under her cold skin and he let out a shaky breath. He fell to his knees in tears then, both his hands going to her stomach.

“I’m so sorry… I’m so sorry I had to be your father…” He sobbed against her abdomen, putting his bloody forehead flush with her skin.

“Hush..” Gemina stroked her fingers through his hair to smooth it away from his face. “Hush now..” She slowly lowered herself to the ground and pulled his hands from her stomach, moving them to cradle her own face. The blood smeared on her skin and stained her clothing. “This is all my fault.” She whispered to him, nuzzling into his palm. “I was selfish. I was selfish and in pain. I took it out on you for what that wicked woman did to me..”

She let her hands fall from his rests and she reached out to touch his face, her thumb gliding across his lips. “Your sins are now mine. Just as mine will be yours. We are one.” Gemina leaned in and kissed his nose, gently licking some of the blood off it when she did. A small hum left her lips at the taste and she forced herself to focus on the topic at hand instead of her pregnant cravings. “Our child will be born an unwilling royal to a monarchy that exists only in social standing. They will need their father, just as I need their father.. This past week I realized that I would rather die than live even one day without you, Vlad. You and this child are my existence now and I will follow you wherever you go.. If you turn back to your old ways and wish to burn the world, then I will hold your torch and praise your actions..“

Vlad looked up at her in awe. She was the small flicker of light amongst his ocean of darkness that was consuming him.

“I love you, my darling...” He whispered, standing up straight before kissing her hard and passionately.

And then a slow clapping emerged from the darkness.

“Damn... I only showed up to torment you, Vlad. I didn’t expect you to go full monster.” Valdís chuckled, staring at them both. “I must thank you for the bodies you left behind for me.”

Vlad stepped backwards the second she started screaming. He stared in horror at the woman he loved losing her mind in front of him. He saw her tossing books and flipping tables and he couldn’t believe it.
And then she told him to get lost. His heart shattered in his chest at her comments and his face showed it. Even though he didn’t want to believe her, he sensed it through their bond, he could feel that she was serious, and he let out a sob.
“If…. if that’s how you really feel… I’m so sorry I hurt you Gemina…” Vlad whispered before turning into a cloud of bats and zooming out of the store.

Throughout the next week, there was a string of violent and bloody deaths throughout the state. Random unlucky people dying for no rhyme or reason yet they all shared a similar trait in their corpses: they were all drained of blood. The weather across the entire state of California was also consistently overcast, the sun barely shining anywhere.
And it was all because of Vlad’s heartbreak.
He was just finishing another draining when a familiar face caught him in a back alley.
“Get the fuck out of here, Judas!” Vlad snarled, his face contorted and monstrous looking.

“Or what? You’ll kill one of your own kind?”

Judas leaned on the wall and examined his nails. “So you’re the one causing all this panic. I thought you’d moved on from that, my friend.” He pushed off the wall and pulled a tissue from his jacket, offering it out to Vlad.

“In all honesty I don’t give a damn who or what you kill, but you’re putting the rest of us in danger. The Red Sector has been killing and kidnapping en masse since you’ve started your little spree. Does Gemina know about this?”

Vlad sped over to Judas and pinned him against the wall by his throat, snarling wildly at him. His face was contorted in anger and his claws dug into his skin.

“Gemina’s the reason behind this…. she kicked me out and it’s all my fault and I can’t-“ His voice broke and he dropped him, bloody tears spilling onto his cheeks. He started sobbing then, looking over at the dead body beside them.

“I can’t fix this…. I broke her heart and I’m not deserving of getting it back.” He mumbled, his voice shaking.

At this point Judas had come to expect Vlad to pin him. He remained relaxed and watched Vlad, but kept his hands at his sides in case he needed to fight. “Gemina?” Judas questioned once the other vampire let him go. “You-.. Did what?” He breathed as Vlad started to cry. A fire sparked in his chest. This was just what he had hoped for, but for some reason it didnt feel as good as he had hoped. His brown eyes dropped to the ground.

“Broken hearted or not, she would never approve of this..” He crossed his arms over his chest. “Not when your actions are causing the unnecessary deaths of so many undead.”

“I can’t control myself.... I became the monster I used to be and I don’t deserve to be around her or our unborn child. I don’t want to hurt her...” He whimpered, running a hand through his hair before sliding down the alley wall and putting his head in his hands.

Vlad’s heart shattered as he heard her words. He immediately could feel her anguish through their bond and it was killing him. He followed her, his entire body trembling as he relived the horrors of his past.
“Gemina, please, you have to understand, I wasn’t myself during all that. I was consumed by bloodlust for centuries. I couldn’t control myself or my actions at ALL. It wasn’t until what happened with Emma that I truly realized what I had done and who I had killed. That’s when I begged that witch to help me, to save whatever soul I had left, and that’s when I became Vlad the Impaler, because deep down when my memories were forgotten, I was still angry at the world and the demon who turned me…” Vlad approached her, kneeling beside her and taking her hands in his.
“Please Gemina… I only wanted to protect you from the truth because I was a man once, just an ordinary man… and I don’t want you to shut me out again because you can only see the monster.” He reached down and put his hand on her belly, sniffling as more bloody tears fell, “Our children are evidence that I’m not just the monster my past makes me out to be. I love you more than anything and that alone makes me human…”

“You should have told me!”

Gemina snapped at him once his hand was against her stomach. Everything he said about their children was lost as the sound of her own rage filled screams as she shoved the books off of the table, each one hitting Vlad before dropping to the floor.

“I gave you my all, I showed you my secrets! I opened up my sanctuary to you!” She rose back to her feet and shoved Vlad in an attempt to get him away from her. “I followed your teachings and knelt at your feet. I worshiped you like a god, Vlad Tepes, and you repay me with lies! With never ending pain!” Gemina could barely control her anger anymore and she grabbed for the table, flipping it over and crashing it into the display that held Vlad’s armor. The glass shattered and the ancient metal clattered onto the floor.

“Do you know when I last killed a human, Vlad?” A maniacal smile crept onto her lips as she dragged her fingers through her hair. “The night I met you. Just hours before. Some drunk idiot who wandered into the ally. Perfect for a snack. I loved it. I loved the rush. The nature. That’s what I was.” She suddenly shoved another bookcase and it toppled over, but tripped in the process and fell to her knees in angry sobs.

“Go back to your goddess!” She croaked as she crawled over the pile of books and started picking them up to hug them to her chest like children. “You two are perfect for each other and you’ll have your daughter..” She seemed to calm for a second as she started to hum while organizing the books back into piles, occasionally stopping her song to count the books in Russian.

Vlad stepped backwards the second she started screaming. He stared in horror at the woman he loved losing her mind in front of him. He saw her tossing books and flipping tables and he couldn’t believe it.

Vlad tensed in shock and surprise when she hit him. It didn’t hurt nor did it affect him in any way, but it was still shocking nonetheless. He stared at her in horror, unsure of what to do.
“Just…. promise me you won’t hate me after I show you this…” Vlad sighed heavily before taking her hand in his, transferring his memories through their soul bond. He showed her everything then, showing his mass murder sprees, his pillaging and raping of entire villages, how he turned hundreds of thousands of innocent men and women in order to build his armies. He also showed her his relationship with Valdís, how they were lovers at one point, how they caused death and destruction together while making love.
And then a woman named Emma flashed through her mind.
Emma was just a poor innocent young woman who got caught in the wrong place in the wrong time. Vlad not only drained her, but he raped her multiple times in front of her family and her entire village before turning her into a vampire and making her burn down everything she once knew. She was one of the first brides of Dracula.
He then showed her when he realized his actions were wrong. He showed her his repentance, his guilt and sickness upon revisiting those memories, and that’s when he visited a witch to have those memories wiped and to be turned mortal once more.
That’s when he pulled from her mind and bloody tears were streaming down his cheeks.
“I’m so sorry, my love….”

As the memories came Gemina just closed her eyes and let them hit her in waves. A thousand voices screaming, the smell of burning fire, the disgusting stench of blood and decay washed over her as she witnessed the past life of her lover. Once they were done she reopened her still starlit eyes. His words didn’t register at first, but seeing his tear streaked face seemed to barely effect her.

“So am I..”

She let her hand fall from his as the glow of her eyes diminished and she stared back with her normal, cloudy gaze. There were no words to express what she was feeling in that moment. Sadness, mourning, rage, and depression. They melted together to create an entirely new emotion that she couldn’t even process. Her hands traveled down to her stomach where she held the bump against her palms.

“You had no intentions of informing me of the monster I bed, did you?” Gemina asked solemnly. “To think that I was foolish enough to believe that I deserved a righteous man. To have fallen for a demon, only to saved by the devil himself.” She turned away from him and went back to sit in front of her books.

Like many times before Vlad, Gemina buried herself within the pages of ancient text. They radiated power and magics that enveloped her mind and body, pulling her from the reality she so desperately wanted to escape. They were her only form of comfort.

“Leave me to my work.” She tried to sound dignified, but her voice was wrecked with anguish. “I will call for you if I require assistance.”

That’s when I begged that witch to help me, to save whatever soul I had left, and that’s when I became Vlad the Impaler, because deep down when my memories were forgotten, I was still angry at the world and the demon who turned me...” Vlad approached her, kneeling beside her and taking her hands in his.

“Please Gemina... I only wanted to protect you from the truth because I was a man once, just an ordinary man... and I don’t want you to shut me out again because you can only see the monster.” He reached down and put his hand on her belly, sniffling as more bloody tears fell, “Our children are evidence that I’m not just the monster my past makes me out to be. I love you more than anything and that alone makes me human...”

Valdís started cackling with laughter as she saw Gemina helplessly look for Mirena and she just shook her head when she threatened her.
“Honey, I’m the goddess of DEATH. You can’t kill me.” Valdís created a fireball in the palm of her hand and reached out to grab the dagger, the fire melting it immediately. She then picked up the molten metal and molded it in the fire in her hands into a silver metal skull holding a rose in its teeth. She put the object on the table beside them and nodded in Gemina’s directions. “Ask him about a woman named Emma. Ask him what he did to her and her village. That should give you the truth. And I’m amazed, given th soul bond you two share, that you didn’t know.” She shrugged, “And give him that little trinket for me, would ya?” Valdís smirked before turning for the door.

Rage burned in her chest as she watched Valdis. The value of the dagger lost as the power of the woman in front of her was displayed. If the situation had been different, there would have been a sense of awe and respect from the scholar, but in this moment all she could imagine was harming the other. Thankfully the child in her womb kept her in place.

Gemina let Valdis leave through the front of the store as she glared at the little skull. Her eyes clamped shut and she tried to steady her breathing, knowing that her anger wasn’t good for the child within her. Yet the more she tried the more she thought about Valdis’s words. “Almost lovers.. Emma.. Monster..” She mumbled as she marched down to her vault beneath the shop. It was one of the few places she could find peace anymore. She sat down in the corner of the room with books and scrolls to occupy her time, but seeing Vlad’s armor filled her with even more rage.

The second Vlad senses a change in Gemina’s emotions for the worse, he zoomed straight back to the store. He then saw the rose skull on the counter and he felt his heart sink.

“Oh god…. she’s been here… Gemina?!” Vlad shouted, zooming all over the store before down into the basement, spotting her, “Oh thank God, Gemina, you’re ok.” He breathed a sigh of relief before noticing the anger on her face, “Gemina, what’s wrong?”

Hearing Vlad’s voice ripped her attention away from her books and she glared at him through stormy eyes. Her chest rose and fell as she struggled to control her rage. Seeing him only made her emotions spiral further into the dark.

“My pleasure to see you again, your majesty..” Bitterness dripped from her tone as she rose to her feet. “I’m so pleased you decided to show up. I got to see our daughter today. It was an enlightening experience.” Gemina stalked closer to him and her eyes started to pool back into that threatening silver, glowing as her soul burned in a rage-filled fire. “Who was Emma, Vlad?” She asked threateningly. “What happened to Emma?”

“W-what? Gemina, what are you-“ Vlad cut himself off as he remembered the rose skull trinket and he remembered the abilities Valdís possessed. He ran his hands through his hair and shook his head, knowing the cat was out of the bag now.

“I’m assuming that bitch of a goddess told you how old I really am then?” He asked, his voice turning somber when she mentioned Emma, “Gemina… trust me… you don’t want to know. That was an extremely dark period in my life, even darker than my time as the Impaler. Please do not ask this of me…”

His words only served to anger her further. She stepped up to him as little white wisps of energy radiated off her skin and a layer of heat seemed to radiate off of her. “You lied to me, Vlad Tepes.” She stated in a startlingly calm manner. “I opened myself to you, I showed you my sins, I laid my skin bare for you to see.” Gemina brought her fevered hand up to stroke across his cheek in a loving manner. “I worshiped the ground you walked on, I basked in your lectures of power and mercy..”

Suddenly her hand drew back and struck him with more power than she should have had in her pregnant, weakened state. “How long would you have let me live in your lies!?” She snarled as her fangs extended. “Show me the real Vlad Tepes. Show me the Dracul!”

Vlad tensed in shock and surprise when she hit him. It didn’t hurt nor did it affect him in any way, but it was still shocking nonetheless. He stared at her in horror, unsure of what to do.

Valdís watched the woman in pain and snickered to herself. She hated vampires with a burning passion, so to see one in pain like this made her extremely happy. However, the moment she saw the white light coming from her eyes, Valdís was extremely confused.
“It’s not you whom I truly have a quarrel with, it’s your idiotic soul mate, Dracula. He was the first vampire over 3000 years ago and it’s because of him that immortals now roam the earth. And it’s also because of him that a huge chunk of my business is gone. Death takes everyone at some point, except for vampires. And that’s what makes me mad.” Her own eyes turned completely black, cocking her head as she stared down the strange woman.

“Like all gods you are selfish.” Gemina glowered and looked down at Mirena. When she did the white in her eyes and skin faded back to normal. It was almost as if Gemina didn’t even realize what had happened to her. “Childish.” She adjusted Mirena to hold her against her shoulder, nuzzling the little girls head lovingly. It took her several seconds to realize a flaw in what Valdis had said and she lifted her attention back to the other, not affected by her abysmal eyes.

“3000? No, Vlad is only five hundred years old.” She corrected in her confusion. “He was turned by a demon to save his family. He had to kill his own wife to turn. Perhaps his soul is 3000 years aged, but the man he is now was born and lived as a human man..”

Valdís blinked in surprise at Gemina’s words, causing her to burst out laughing.

“Oh my goodness, sweetie, he has been lying to you. Vlad Tepes is the oldes vampire alive. He’s 3000 years old exactly. The getting turned by a demon part is correct but not exactly the way he told you. He was turned into a vampire by the demon 3000 years ago, however, due to his horrific acts and him turning a shit ton of other vampires, he sought out a witch to wipe his memories and turn him mortal. Unfortunately, in the 1400’s, he was reunited with the demon that turned him in th first place and he was reawakened with all his past memories and atrocities. The man has committed far more horrors than you could ever dream of, darling. Far more than the disgusting acts of his life as Vlad the impaler, he has raped, tortured, murdered, and drained people for FUN and I remember watching him do a lot of it. That’s how we knew each other. He was such a merchant of death that we were almost lovers.” She smirked, looking at the infant in Gemina’s arms. Valdís knew Mirena’s soul would disappear in a few moments, so she just watched and waited.

The horror’s Valdis described were not Vlad. She was lying to her, toying with her. The man she loved couldn’t have been such a monster. Her mind raced as she tried to absorb the idea that Vlad had lied to her. Her hands gripped Mirena tighter as her mind spun, but the childs body vanished beneath the weight and it ignited a panic in Gemina.

Suddenly, like before, a flesh of white appeared over her skin as she clawed at her own body to find the baby again. When she couldnt be retrieved Gemina let out an unholy scream that rattled the nearest shelves. “You whore!” She screeched and reached for the display she had been previously organizing and ripped the dagger at its center and pointed it towards Valdis. “Get out of my store!”
