A Precious Gem (Kili x dwarrowdame!reader)

Dwarrowdames were an interesting sort. They had beards just like their male counterparts. But you were different; born into the royal fold of Erebor, everyone looked forward to the day when you’d begin growing your own. But as the years went by, you saw yourself as unequal and before long, you no longer felt beautiful. The other ladies teased you about it. Prince Kili took notice and attempted to show you what a precious gem you really are.

Kili found you when you were on your way back from a quiet walk in the gardens; he knew you enjoyed going there. He saw the look in your eyes that said someone else made yet another comment about your appearance.

He frowned and approached you gently. “Afternoon Y/N. I trust your walk was pleasant?”

“Indeed it was Kili. But…you shouldn’t be with me; what would the others think?” You became self-conscious.

“I know what others are saying about you. But I think you are perfect.” He ran a finger over his chin. “I too was teased at one point in my life. I was jealous of Fee because he had such a spacious beard.”

You let a small smile creep over your face. You knew it was custom for princes to be on the lookout for a beautiful dwarrowdame and you were sure they would overlook you, or even worse, ignore you. But Kili…he treated you as though you were his world.

He glared at several passersby as they made more snide comments towards you, then turned his gaze back to you.

“Y/N…do not pay attention to them. I’ve watched you for a very long time and I feel really terrible about how my…our…people treat you. I just wanted to let you know that no matter what society tells you, you are a precious gem in my eyes.” He took your hands and rubbed your knuckles to ease the chill from the cold air.

You hugged him and said, “Thank you Kili. It means so much that you would take time out of your day to tell me that. May Mahal watch over you and the Durin line.”

thank you for taking my imagine as an inspiration. It came out really well and quite different from what I was imagining. But that’s what’s fun about imagines. the more versions the better
