WIP Tag Game

I was tagged by @transboywrites so thank you very much!

1. When starting something new, how much do you know about the story before you start writing?

I prefer to know a lot about the world its set in and the general backstories of my characters. I’m a person that likes plans and drafts for most things, not just writing. I find it helps me with adding interesting detail as I’m writing and also stops me from accidentally writing something that contradicts an earlier section of the WIP.

2. What draws you to your WIP(s)? Why did you choose to write that/those over anything else?

I play a lot of DnD with my friends and as my current WIP started out as an idea for a section of a campaign I was running, I often find myself coming back to ideas for it when I’m playing DnD.

3. Favorite writing spot? Why?

Probably in my bed, wrapped in my duvet with a mug of tea nearby. It’s warm and comfy!

4. Share your favorite line of what you’ve written so far!

I don’t really have one yet, I’m still mostly in the world-building stage.

5. If you had to choose one OC to bring to life as an actual person, which one would it be and why?

Probably Vivian. She’s such a strong, elegant and generally brilliant character and I’d love to have her for advice and support.

6. Are you looking to get published? If so, do you hope to make it a career?

I don’t think I’m good enough to get published but I guess if I ever finished this WIP it wouldn’t hurt to try and get it published. I don’t think I’ll ever have writing as my career though.

7. What’s something you would read but would never write (or the other way around)? Any reason?

I’d read horror or anything else very gory/detailed (like medical scenes) but I don’t think I could write them- it would probably sound too ridiculous and I’m fairly squeamish about that sort of thing

8. What’s something you are most proud of about your work so far?

That I actually get anything done on it whilst also being in my final year at university.

9. Badly describe your WIP(s) in one sentence

Sex, sirens and salacious savagery.

10. Why did you want to be a writer?

Because I enjoy it and I enjoy trying to describe the things I can picture in my head in a way that communicates them to other people.

I was tagged by @lillayalightfoot - I love tag games, thank you!

1. When starting something new, how much do you know about the story before you start writing?

Most of it - I have a plot and a lot of world building ready to go before I really start any sort of draft.

2. What draws you to your WIP(s)? Why did you choose to write that/those over anything else?

The depth of the world, how much I know about the characters, the amount I know about everything there. I don’t know, it’s just grand.

3. Favorite writing spot? Why?

I enjoy writing at any local coffee shop, coffee beside me, and music thumping in my ears. I also write at home, but close enough.

4. Share your favorite line of what you’ve written so far!

I still quite enjoy the one where Kite says she’s named after the bird, not the toy!

5. If you had to choose one OC to bring to life as an actual person, which one would it be and why?

I do love Timethy, though I would also take Damien, Dee, maybe Sam

6. Are you looking to get published? If so, do you hope to make it a career?

One day, it’s just not my main motivation at the movement. But it’s not my career.

7. What’s something you would read but would never write (or the other way around)? Any reason?

Fanfic - I just don’t have the skill for it. I also write but don’t read poetry. I might read next to anything, but not all am i capable of writing

8. What’s something you are most proud of about your work so far?

That I actually do a thing hahaha

9. Badly describe your WIP(s) in one sentence

If you trap kids with magic down a mine, what could possibly go wrong?

10. Why did you want to be a writer?

I don’t think I ever wanted to, I jsut wanted to express myself and this is where I’ve ended up. I love writing, but I didn’t set out to be a writer with intent lol

Some random excerpt from the first draft :P

“Then all of a sudden, a row of black Cadillac SUVs rolled down the street as if they were searching for something. For someone. They were just driving up and down the block looking suspicious all day and you’re telling me you didn’t see any of it?” Xavier[RedCusp]’s brief description of the strange happening was only met with a deadpan reply from H3dshot.  “Nope, doesn’t ring a bell. Maybe I was in the workshop while that happened.”  “Perhaps. Dur! what say you?”  The silver slab morphed and warped until the center was a large imprint of a human face, then it spoke; “To be honest, it was probably the feds, or some private organization that likes to ride around in matching vehicles scanning houses with heavily armed men in every other car.”  Everyone on the porch just kinda stood there in shocked silence. They knew what that ‘private army’ or whoever wanted, but nobody really said anything until they were called in for dinner.

Found it! Tag list under the cut

I’ve answered this before, so it is OC answer time!

1. Height:

Oh, tall enough to kiss a Boy on the forehead. Or thirty feet if I stand up on my hindclaws.

Not counting my tail. I can’t stand on my tail. I can hang from it, but I need a really big tree or something.

2. Favorite Band:

I like marching bands, especially the drum corps. Boom boom boom! It’s like Thunder.

Dancing in a storm is so fun!

3. Favorite Song Lyric:

If I know just what to say when some trouble heads his way

and can make him feel that everything is good,

then I act like a woman and he likes a woman

to act like a woman should.

4. Following:

I’m a leader, not a follower! I don’t even like it when a Jessica tries to boss me around, or a Morgan says I have to do something.

5. Writing Motto:

Write it in glitter ink so it sparkles!

6. (Some) Favorite TV Shows:

Out of this World

Mork and Mindy

I am Frankie

H. R. PufnStuf

My Super Sweet Sixteen

7. Favorite Song (without words):

Silly, how am I supposed to tell you without words? Draw you a picture? But I don’t have any crayons or markers!

8. Favorite Song:

Blondes (Have More Fun) by Rod Stewart.

9. Languages I’m Fluent In:

You can’t speak it. You don’t have the right organs. No scent glands. And your tongue is too short. And not forked.

10. Languages I can Count to 10 In:

Do I have to? That is such an ugly number. Let me count to eight instead!

11. Top 5 Mythical Creatures (in order):

Turtles. Rabbits. Bears. Geese. Kangaroos.

What do you mean they aren’t mythical? I thought they were. What about anchovies?

This is so confusing!

Anything crunchy that goes good with ketchup. Do you go good with ketchup?

13. Favorite (Musical) Character:

Elle Woods.

17. Favorite Genre

I like Romances! Especially Period Romances!

18. Favorite Fanfiction AUs

Fashion shows, malls, and proms!

19. Favorite Fanfiction (Authored by Someone Else):

I know Courtney wrote a good one about this show she likes with a sailor. And the sailor kissed a dragon. I liked that. She wrote two whole chapters on fishing though. It was like Moby Dick became an environmentalist.

20. Favorite Original Story Idea (Authored by Me):

Ok, here’s the story about a girl who is so pretty and everyone loves her, and she kidnaps the prince and makes him braid her hair! Hah hah! Revenge!

Y: Are your characters based off of people you know? Yourself? Or no one at all?

Z: What made you decide to write your story?

Get-to-Know-the-Writer Ask Game

A: Does writing energize or exhaust you? Both. If I’m nailing things and it feels awesome, for sure energy. More often than not, even if I’m pleased with the work, it does take something out of me. I don’t think that’s bad! Creation is tiring! And I’m so proud when it’s complete.

B: What’s your writing kryptonite? If you mean bad - then youtube, not because it’s a distraction but because I can’t process words and write (stunning, I know). If you mean good, 155 bpm is my magic writing tempo.

C: Do you use your real name or a pseud? Oh, Durand? Pseydo, but it’s my pseudo everywhere. I work in a job which has encouraged me to be even more private than normal. Besides, I think Kite Durand just sounds cooler.

D: Do you tend to write what you want, or what your readers want? 100% what I want. I’m, very selfishly, my own favourite author. I write poetry to get things out, or so it sounds cool, and stories and scenes to express something within me I can’t always figure out how to parse.

E: What other writers are you friends with? I have…..1 real life writing friend, my old and dear friend Parin (sometimes Elm, sometimes JK, sometimes Cemrin). On tumblr, I don’t know - I feel I’d be taking liberties naming some of the kind folk on writeblr.

F: Do you prefer to write stand-alones or series? Series all the way. I don’t feel I do well enough in characterisation when doing short pieces. I have a lot of short pieces, but they’re usually experiments for longer works.

G: If you could tell your younger self anything, what would it be? Write even more. Save everything. Back it up sooner.

H: What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel? I don’t read as broadly as I’d like - I’m quite ashamed of this.

I: What’s your writing spirit animal? This is a great query. I have, on my shelf, a fox from Parin that is my writing buddy, and a tiny jade bear that I really like - bears have meant a lot to me in the past. I’d also liked otters lately.

J: How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have? They’re all that way. We’re talking dozens here, all big longer term projects.

K: How many hours a day do you write? Days per week? In the ‘off season’ at least 15 min a day - Language Building, Short Stories, Prompt List, World Building, Resource Collecting. Mid season is closer to an hour - this is usually sketch work, as I try and offset writing with another medium like drawing, musix, painting….On season, which is at least one calendar month a year, or more, I write 3,000 words a day.

L: How do you select the names of your characters? When I worked in a coffee shop, I saved unusual customer names. Otherwise, I do what regular people do and use a name generator of some kind. The last character I named was Ordell Jude Dah’Rhin. Dah’Rhin comes from his father. Jude was a nod to the Biblical betrayal of Judas. And Ordell was a search for redeem, rebirth, or fresh start. All significant to him.

M: Are you primarily a writer? Or do you consider it a secondary career? It’s not my career. It is my passion and I can’t help but discuss it, but it plays a part in my pantheon of skills - education, dance, coffee, belief.

N: Do you hide secrets/easter eggs in your books? I mean, I foreshadow long in advance and giggle to myself. ‘Oh man, you know how we say he has gold eyes in Chapter 1? Well in Chapter 50, it’s revealed that his MURDEROUS FATHER FROM TWO BOOKS AGO HAD GOLD EYES’ (etc etc etc)

O: What types of scenes are hardest for you to write? I struggle with humour, and pacing between action, description, and dialogue

P: What’s your biggest writing flaw? Torturing my characters

Q: Do you have a specific process for writing? I should? There is music that works, and times that are better, but I think if I ritualised it too much, I’d seriously screw myself out of ever writing anything.

R: What’s your writing set-up like? I have a few. Gotta be flexible! My home set up is just a laptop, half a desk covering in snacks and wires. My travel set up is a bluetooth keyboard and tablet, usually over a coffee or tea. Sometimes it’s my Rocketbook and pen, with my phone to store my notes.

S: How long does it take you to finish your first draft? 30 days. Got this down to a science lol. Done it for like, 10 years?

T: Do you believe in writer’s block? I’ve never personally experienced it, or what I think it is? I have a ton of ideas. Sometimes I struggle with phrasing, or a certain word, but I push it aside and just carry out. Quantity over quality, at least on first draft.

U: Do you want to be/are you professionally published or self-published? I need to decide this summer which way to go…..finally take the plunge :S

V: How would you feel if your story turned into a movie? Of course I’d be jazzed, but I don’t see it happening.

W: Are you a planner or a pantser? Or somewhere in between? Planner, typically, though writing flows as it flows

X: What inspires you as a writer? Moodboards, pictures, any media I write, what my friends do, stranger in the street. Who can say?

Y: Are your characters based off of people you know? Yourself? Or no one at all? All the above. Some character started off HEAVILY as people I knew - Rob is a good example actually. He started off as someone we all knew in school - that guy that just got beaten and bashed again and again. Rob has become something else entirely.

You could also argue Vetch is this too - she is a bit me - but a dark bit of me that never comes out to play, just lives in my brain

Z: What made you decide to write your story? I had to get it out, see it in the light, hear how it ends. That’s what we all want, isn’t it?

WIP Tag Game

I was tagged by @imaghostwriter and thank you so much! Also cough the piece of writing you included in your version of this was amazing cough.

1. When starting something new, how much do you know about the story before you start writing?

Anywhere from the backstory of the whole world and every character to almost nothing. Really depends on my mood!

2. What draws you to your WIP(s)? Why did you choose to write that/those over anything else?

Oh boy. Well, I choose to write what I write because I like it! I have ten million little things going on, so really I just write what I feel like! No special reason!

3. Favorite writing spot? Why?

Anywhere I can get comfy. And also quiet places so I don’t have to kill my ears with music.

4. Share your favorite line of what you’ve written so far!

So my favorite line is actually from a nonfiction fragment I wrote about my experiences with suicidal ideation and mental illness, so it’s kind of dark.

When someone asks what it is like to want to die, I can’t help but remember it not being much different from wanting soup for dinner, or deciding to watch your favorite show on T.V. When I was suicidal, making the decision felt no different than changing the channel or opening a can. It was a choice I could pursue to make things easier, or perhaps better depending on the day. When it came right down to it, being suicidal didn’t feel world ending or terrifying, and dying didn’t feel like it would be those either. Being suicidal, the idea of dying, it didn’t feel like anything.

5. If you had to choose one OC to bring to life as an actual person, which one would it be and why?

Zee Crenshaw bc I have a lowkey want to date him cough.

6. Are you looking to get published? If so, do you hope to make it a career?

Not at the moment, but hopefully someday?

7. What’s something you would read but would never write (or the other way around)? Any reason?

I don’t think anything is off limits for me in that way!

8. What’s something you are most proud of about your work so far?

I love its diversity!

9. Badly describe your WIP(s) in one sentence

Blinded: Cults, polyamory and angst oh my!

Rules: It’s a soap opera hidden inside a political drama with lots of sex and secrets.

Death Comes: It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a thriller!

10. Why did you want to be a writer?

I love it? No big reason!

ahhh this was so fun!!!  i’m tagging: @lookslikechill @jessica-shouldbewriting @juliamccartney and @lillayalightfoot because I’m bad at remembering who I should be tagging! anyone who sees this and wants to do it, you can say I tagged you as well!

The Ave’s Egg

90 min Word Sprint: 1,137

Total Wip Word Count: 15,235

The Ave’s Kids find themselves sneaking about in a hidden crawlspace, we get to see some snappy repartee from Napaul and Lania.

——

She thought if there were more secret doors like this she aught to find them later and find where they might lead. Voices seeped through from below time to time. The kids moved slower on their knees and hands then or paused until the voices faded away. Still they knew they had not reached the right place to stop. Only because they couldn’t hear their Father’s voice yet. His voice was unforgettable. Much like a bard plucks at an instruments strings without it present. The children knew their Father’s voice without his face. They loved it as much as any instrument or song. “Here!” Lania stopped so abruptly Napaul crashed into her and Auvemn into him. Her fathers laughed boomed below. “Emp-ling!” Napaul hissed. “ Yes and what are you?” She parried. “ Well liked!” Lania bared her teeth, lips curling. “Move the two of you, so I can fit in the key!” Auvemn was itching to hear what was happening, hating that he was always lumped with his siblings. The key slipped in and the door lifted. The children spilled quietly in, to learn what they aught not too.

The Reaper’s Only Daughter - Chapter 2

This is a Sons of Anarchy FF (AU/retelling) with an original female lead.

This chapter is rated M (for mature themes) for language, questionable/racist language and at least one use of a racial slur used, alcohol and drug use, use of weaponry, and minor (minor) violence/blood (including the death of an unnamed character).

Words: 9,038

Previously in TROD: Schuyler, who is the only female member in an all male organized crime syndicate, arrives on Charming’s doorstep with the intent to transfer from her home chapter in Texas to her father’s original charter in northern California. She is met with little resistance from certain cautious members and is tentatively patched.  However, the next day it is discovered that the warehouse where the illegal artillery that the MC deals in has been burned to the ground with the more valuable items having been stolen by an unidentified rival group.

(*More author’s notes and taglist found below the cut*)

Enjoy…

Schuyler is on her fourth wardrobe change of the day when she rides into the parking lot of Teller-Morrow at the end of her first eight-hour shift.  The sun is beginning to set low as she kills the engine of her V-rod and runs inside the bar shrugging her kutte over a plain black T-shirt as she goes.

Every member of the club, including two new faces she has yet to meet, are once again tossing their phones into a box and stepping over the threshold into the chapel for a mandatory meeting.  As she approaches the box she notices the prospect standing behind the bar, busying his hands by cleaning glasses and looking disheartened as he watches members disappear into the room he is prohibited to enter while church is taking place.  Clay is standing beside the chapel doors overseeing those who enter making sure they empty their pockets beforehand. He acknowledges Schuyler as she walks in pleased that she avoided being late.
