He’s reluctant, but he doesn’t have the strength to fight her on it right now. So submitting to being pushed back down against the makeshift bed. He sighs in defeat at her words. He could lie and say he was fine, as he usually did. But they both knew it wasn’t true. He would be fine, but for the time being he wasn’t. Blue eyes watching her, giving a small nod of his head to show that he was listening. “ water. ” it’s a single word, a simple reply. No authority or order to his tone. His throat was sore and dry from the days he’d spent sleeping, only realizing just how thirsty he was when the question was asked.
Echo gives a small smile, glad that he was being cooperative instead of trying to fight her. She was simply trying to make sure he got better and that he got better quick. She knew that he wanted to get up, not waste any time, but that would of course make his condition worse which Echo would not allow. Hearing his request, Echo nodded her head, rising from her seat to order one of the men in the room to get the King some water. There wasn’t any way that she was going to be leaving herself, not after what happened. Not even a moment later, she was brought a good size cup of water which she brought to Roan’s bedside. Still standing, she put her hand behind his neck to gently lift him up to drink. “Here. Slowly.” She told him, very carefully tipping the cup to his lips.

He needed time to find himself again. The confidence he’d once carried no longer in him. He was exhausted and like many others he’d long since given up. But he was a leader and a king to his people. As much as he’d like to stop caring, it wasn’t in his blood. He just needed time. Time to think and heal. Time to find his voice again, find his strength. He needed to find his motivation. Before it was simply himself, but now, now he needed to find something, some manner of inspiration. He didn’t know where to start, or how to go about it anymore.
“ after everything, how can you still be so loyal? ” the question falling from his lips before he can stop himself. After the constant back and forth, even being banished, she was still here. She still stood by his side, went as far as entering the conclave to save him. It made absolutely no sense. Her loyalty was endless. If it had been him in her shoes, he would have long since given up on his people. He nearly had during his own banishment.
Her eyes fell to the floor for a moment or so before hearing his question. Echo immediately looked back over to Roan, feeling a little bit surprised by what he asked. It wasn’t a question that Echo was expecting from him, and it took her off guard. She had to take a minute and think it over. Why was she still so loyal? He banished her from the bunker and from their clan, but yet here she was at his bedside after saving him from death. They had gone through a lot, but never once did it cross Echo’s mind to betray him or to not do anything she could to save him. Maybe there was more to it than she consciously knew. After taking a moment, she lightly shrugged her shoulders while looking at her King. “I think it’s because I care about you, Roan. I know we’ve been through a lot, and I’ve done wrong, but it’s never been with bad intentions.” She told him with honesty. “Loyalty has always been something very important for me. Being loyal to you even now, even after everything that has happened is important to me. I understand your actions from before, banishing me from Azgeda, as much as it hurt. But, I don’t give up easily. If ever. You and what’s left of Azgeda is all I have.”

he mentally agreed with her for a moment before he decided to stop acting like he was so much better than her. maybe that had been their problem all along. sky people always thought they were better than the grounders and the grounders felt they were better than sky people. and then azgeda always thought they were better than everyone. it was a vicious circle but now there was no sky people or azgeda or trikru. they were all the same. they either hid in a bunker or escaped back up to the sky. ❝ they’ll get over it. ❞ bellamy said softly. ❝ harper. get her to like you. she’s fighty but she’s fair. emori is a grounder, she’ll be feeling same as you, except she’s got murphy. don’t bother with murphy. he’ll come around only when he decides to. monty and raven will accept you if you help them with mechanical things. you’re strong. you can do that easy. ❞
“I hope you’re right.” She sighed lightly. Echo didn’t think it would be that easy, not as easy as he was making it sound anyway. But, at the same time, Bellamy did know them better. They were his people after all. Her people now too as he put it. Echo wanted to believe him, but it was hard for her to completely trust all the people she was up here with. “But, what makes you think that someone like Murphy won’t just end up trying to throw me out the door into space? You saw what he did down there.” She shook her head. Echo knew she was overthinking everything, and it was hard not to. She wasn’t in her element. So if someone tried to kill her off up here, they had a very good chance of being successful. “I’ll help as much as I can. I’ll do what I need. But.. I might.. I might need your help.” She finally admitted, feeling for whatever reason that she could still trust him after everything that happened.

“I wouldn’t have agreed to it if I was not sure, but if you’re having second thoughts, I can keep meeting with suitors?” Though it might be awkward for Echo to kill one of Nia’s children and they were the next on the list of people wishing to court her.
“No, not at all.” She shook her head immediately. “I just want to make sure that this is what you want and that you’ll be happy with your decision. That’s all.” She told her, wanting to make sure she wasn’t going to be unhappy marrying her rather than whomever else she was supposed to meet with.

“Or– I could save the gravediggers some work and simply tell them I’ve already chosen someone to marry… .That’s an option as well” the princess replied with a cocked brow before tearing some of the bread off and popping it into her mouth.
“I suppose you’re right. I guess it would save a lot of mess, now wouldn’t it?” She laughed, tilting her head to the side. “Are you sure that you’re willing to marry me? One hundred percent sure?” She questioned, wanting to be certain herself that the princess was indeed willing to go through with the marriage in the end.

“As have I. Which is what I’ll always continue to do.” She agreed with her, nodding her head slightly. “That’s why you and I can get along, I think. We would do anything and everything for ourselves and the ones we love.” She sighed slightly, thinking to Azgeda. Did Echo feel bad about some of the decisions she had made in the past? Sure. Did she regret them? Absolutely not.

“And why not? Would you all really care?” She looked up at Raven in defeat. Echo was sitting in the corner of her make shift room up on the Ark. She didn’t belong here, with these people. She didn’t belong anywhere. Why did Raven or even Bellamy care if she didn’t want to live anymore? Echo didn’t have a home, friends or family. What was the point anymore? “I don’t belong anywhere, Raven. And it’s clear that I don’t fit in here.” She sighed deeply, shaking her head before coming to a realization. But, then why did she go through all that trouble to get here and survive? Maybe there had to be a purpose at the end of all this. But, was she really willing to wait five years to figure that one out?
