which uniquely human interaction are you?

waiting in the car. those extra seconds sat in your friend's driveway so you can make sure the door closes behind them. you are those watchful eyes. you are saying "i can't keep you safe always but i will make damn sure nothing happens on my watch". you are the action of keeping a stranger's child in your peripheral to make sure they don't get into any trouble. you are holding out a hand to catch the person who stumbled. you are the village.

SHE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN : weyland-yutani will never be done until every last one of them are gone. or, at least the head honchos. someone wants power. someone wants money. someone's going to try to use power to get money. it took everything to get out of their grasp and get down here -- but she has to do something. they can not land on this colony, it will only lead to ruin. XENOMORPHS INFECT.

this is messy, this is all so messy. this is like trojan horse messy. what were they even thinking? after what happened on lv-426? that would use rational thinking ... and the heads at weyland-yutani wasn't doing that. if it weren't evident by their personal bot: ash and their loyal human: burke. they didn't think in lives, they thought in riches.

hicks is somewhere distracting whoever remains of weyland-yutani, at least the marines were mostly on their side. there's enough evidence for all that. she just has to figure out what to do here and hope the ... large robot isn't purely weyland-yutani or it would never listen to her.

in the distance, somewhere above him, giant can sense people. actual people, not... whatever's infected him. okay, he can work with this. but first, he needs to get out of this... nest? hive? the creatures that are crawling around him seem to sense the presence of more people, and scatter quickly.

giant tries to wiggle around more, but the material that makes up the hive is hard and stuck to him firmly. there's no way he can break out of it without bringing the entire building down around him. while that might be acceptable if he was alone, there are other people in the building. acceptable loss isn't.

he can sense someone approaching close by, and figures, even if they were from the people that put him down here, better the devil you know, and all that.

          ❝ hello?

it's the ship breaking atmo that wakes giant up. the first thing that he takes stock of is just how different his body feels. it's not just the post-hibernation out-of-body feeling this time- he's been found. someone found him while he was in stasis, and kept him asleep while they used his body as a foundation for some sort of power station, going by how tired he feels. but... there's something else.

he can feel something crawling around in his chest. all those years ago, hogarth taught him about loving all of earth's creatures, and he appreciated everything, big and small. this is not one of those creatures. it is a mishmash of different animal traits that he recognizes, and so many more that he doesn't. he doesn't like it.

Image

giant tries to move, but other than the cables and machines plugged into his core, there's something else weighing him down. something organic and sticking his arms to his sides and too strong to break. oh dear. it might be time to panic.

004.

Physical characteristics.

giant is, in fact, 50 feet tall (15.24 meters). 3 full grown adults can fit comfortably in the palm of his hand. he constantly offers people he likes a hand on the ground, so they can climb up and see the world from his height. when someone does clamber onto his hand, he'll curl up his fingers slightly, so they have something to grab onto so they can steady themselves.

his default position when standing is resting his hands on his hip struts. when sitting, he sits criss-cross applesauce.

his hands have four fingers- three regular, and one opposable thumb. when hogarth pointed it out for the first time, giant marveled at their differences for weeks.

it takes him hundreds of years to figure out how to regulate his 'diet'. he will always be a metallivore, and when he first wakes up, his appetite is all over the place. since he's first learning how to be sentient around humans, he thinks he needs to eat three times a day, with snacks in between. it's only once hogarth and his family are long gone that giant's appetite finally levels out. he can go up to an earth decade without eating before he has to hibernate to conserve energy.

Avatar

giant doesn't remember the last time he ate. (that's a lie. it's been 8 earth years. isn't that sad? that he still measures time in earth terms?) his stomach growls at him, vibrating up his chest and letting him know that if he doesn't eat, he'll need to hibernate to conserve energy. the last time he did that, he slept for decades. missing time, no matter how long, makes him nervous to no end, so he'd prefer to avoid hibernating.

there's a planet nearby that giant deems good enough to explore. a quick scan guides him to a lesser-populated area, and breaks atmo with well-practiced ease. an end-over-end flip to bleed off speed, and he lands with a great plume of sand. (joy. sand.) the twin suns quickly melt any ice from travel off of his frame, and a quick shake creates a fine mist around him.

another scan of the landscape around him brings a frown to his simple face. sand, sand, and more sand. a desert? he hopes not, there's not a lot of metal this far in the desert. a small sigh, and he picks a direction to start walking. this planet isn't the biggest he's ever seen, and it can't all be desert. right?

Image

oh dear. it's all desert. he's been walking for days, and it's all desert. that doesn't mean it's void of life- he's carefully skirted around a few sentient settlements, and a few groups of wild animals have scuttled away from him, but... it's really all desert.

okay, he can work with this. there's a big settlement not far ahead, maybe he can finally approach the people of the planet and request their scrap metal. that hasn't gone well in the past, but there's always room for improvement. or something.

how do you talk to people again?

❛ that’s just wayyy cool, man. ❜ he clambers onto the gentle giant, navigating his way up the length of his arm until he reaches his destination. peter settles in, wiggling until he’s in a comfortable position, the weight of his backpack pulling him just slightly, until he finds his centre of gravity. or something like that.  ❛ wow… now that’s what i call a view !
Image

giant makes a small noise of shock when peter just starts to climb up his arm, not giving him the chance to safely lift the boy up to his shoulder. but, thankfully, peter makes it up safely, and giant stands, looking over to the boy and smiling.

❛ nothing too tall for me.

erik glances down at the hand under him. a flicker of a frown gives away his confusion. the automatic protectiveness –– the iron-coated tenderness –– catches him off-guard. “i ––” his voice drags, pausing, before his eyes flicker back to the giant. “ –– can control magnetism.”
Image
the pride in his voice isn’t subtle. “metal, magnetic fields.”
Image

he perks up at the information, but then hesitates. metal, magnetic fields- could... could he control giant? he hoped the man wouldn’t try... his next question is timid, quiet.

                ❛ can you control me?

daryl can hear giant eating from inside the building, crunching and squeaking metal bending to his hungry maw. the bowman often wonders where all that metal goes, how it’s digested, and how it could possibly fuel giant, but he’s not sure he’ll ever have answers to those questions. it doesn’t really matter, he supposes. there’s probably enough metal in virginia alone to last giant until all of them are dead and gone.
he’s going through a bookshelf when that deep voice booms from outside, and daryl pauses his searching to exit the house. he looks up, studying the items that giant has brought him.
cans. he’s found cans of food that he presumes are full.
grinning, daryl gestures for giant to come down lower, so that he can see how many there are.          ❛ c’mon down here, lemme take a look. ❜
Image

giant crouches low, slowly putting his hands down on the ground as if he was holding something fragile and priceless. technically- he is. food like this was extremely helpful for those in alexandria- it didn’t require any energy to keep fresh, which was what was needed. his hands are quite full with the cans, but he’s careful not to let any fall out- they could burst, and that’d be a waste.

❛ not sure if there are more nearby- i can go look.

Posture lines itself straight once more, getting a better look at the crouching machinery. He seemed friendly enough.  It was a he, right? No lady iron parts stuck out upon first glance.
“You can just call me Nightwing.                                         How ‘bout you, big guy?”
Image

nightwing. definitely a hero like superman. giant sits down fully, crossing his legs and putting his hands in his lap in a very human posture.

❛ giant. what are you doing out so late, nightwing?

nofollowing liked for a starter.

He’s speechless. He shouldn’t be… but he is.
Gentle iron towers over him, causing the masked protector to stop in his tracks and gaze upon the behemoth. There’s nothing sinister in the foreign presence. Given the size, he’d venture to guess that it’s one of Clark’s baddies trying to stir trouble in Gotham.
However, the colossus does nothing but offer a simple yet thunderous greeting.
                    “——— Uh, hi there.”
Image

the return greeting made giant smile, and he squatted down to get a closer look. the... costume? outfit? were odd, but still reminded him of superman, so he didn’t really question it.

“ one hundred and — “ admittedly, she flounders some in the wake of such daunting information. to be away from somewhere that long. to be alive that long. questions form in her mind faster than they can leave her lips.
“ that’s incredible. how… why did you leave? where are you from? “
Image

❛originally- i don’t remember. all i remember is crash landing on earth, in 1957. ❜

his frown deepens, memories of hogarth resurfacing.

❛left because my family had died out. there really wasn’t any other reason to stay.

“yes,” he says, something amazed in the way his mouth is parted. something wary in the hard set of it as he tightens his jaw. using the pull of the earth –– its thrumming, living electromagnetism –– he floats up to the giant’s eye level. his hair whips in the high breeze. his shirt billows.
“i wanted to meet you for myself.”
Image

giant wasn’t sure what he was expecting, but- it certainly wasn’t this! he automatically puts a hand out under the man, as a cautionary measure. what was this man’s ability? there wasn’t anything physically different, so it had to be internal. his next question is asked with quiet awe.

                                  ❛what can you do?
