The sandbox of the HRE

@ask18thcenturygilbert / ask18thcenturygilbert.tumblr.com

I am the Kingdom of Prussia (well, Brandenburg-Prussia), the part of the Empire blessed with lots and lots of sand, swamps, and a Crown Prince who's in detention at Küstrin. / Ask Box open, but very slow with updates due to school. Current Year: 1731 / other blog that updates: ask-sachsen

I'll be at Japantag in Düsseldorf tomorrow

Hello, it's the lazy and stressed admin! The title says it all. I'll be there with a few friends and I'll look a little something like this:

In the likely case you couldn't tell: I'll be Newt Scamander, dying in the heat.

Sooo if you are there and happen to run into me... let's talk? Or you can stare at me from a distance, boiling with frustration about my inability to update frequently :'D

What happened?

//To me or to Fritz? If it was for me: I have a lot of stuff to do at the moment and I can't find time/motivation to draw and when I do, it is usually for other projects. Everything is just... happening all at once. I hope I'll be able to update again at some point, but I don't expect it until July because of finals and everything. If it was for Fritz: he behaved for about a year, so his father gave him permission to come to Berlin for the first time since he tried to flee to attend his sister's wedding.

Are Frederick and his father on speaking terms yet?

“Frederick had to swear an oath back in November, promising not to disobey his father again and, should he end up doing that anyways, promising to give up on the throne.”

“Ever since then there has been a scarce correspondence via letter. Frederick has been given jobs around the fortress, learning about agriculture and everything surrounding it. A new letter has reached him just a while ago...”

“He will be allowed to come back to Berlin for his sister’s wedding.”

I realize he can't answer because... he's not... there... but it's Katte's birthday!

// Indeed! (Or at least the most accepted one out of several possible options :'D)

Your blog sucks and the amount of notes you get per post if proof

// A good evening to you too, my good Sir! Can I offer you anything? Tea, coffee, a life? (And psssht, “if” is not a verb. Maybe check your constructive criticism for typos before sending it off. Have a good one!)

The Kids of Frederick William I. and Sophie Dorothea of Hanover

Bolded: The name they were called by (the ones I know at least)

1. Friedrich Ludwig (1707-1708)

2. Friederike Sophie Wilhelmine (1709-1758)

Margravine of Bayreuth. Apparently the only woman of her century to create an opera. Favourite sister of Frederick II., well known for her memoirs, could not stand Katte. Apparently wore a lot of makeup and didn’t admit it. Talked a lot of smack.

3. Friedrich Wilhelm (1710-1711)

4. Karl Friedrich (1712-1786)

The one and only edgy Crown Prince

5. Charlotte Albertine (1713-1714)

6. Friederike Luise (1714-1784)

Margravine of Ansbach. Described as beautiful with a tendency to use rather crass language. Was spoiled as a child. Had an unhappy marriage and spent most of her life alone in her palace in the middle of nowhere, had, apparently, no hobbies. Insisted to be called “Your Highness” although her rank as a Margravine did not really warrant that.

7. Philippine Charlotte (1716-1801)

Duchess of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel. Known to be very clever, funny, and, like many of her siblings, musical. Was her father’s favourite daughter. Left 4000 volumes to the library of Wolfenbüttel. Supported poets, some of which are still well known today.

8. Ludwig Karl Wilhelm (1717-1719)

9. Sophie Dorothea Marie (1719-1765)

Margravine of Brandenburg-Schwedt. One of the non-intellectual kids. Had an unhappy marriage and lived alone in her own palace.

10. Luise Ulrike (1720-1782)

Queen of Sweden. Showed an early interest in the military. Like many of her siblings, she was interested in the arts and supported them. Was apparently not too popular in Sweden after she tried to get the Monarchs more power next to the Parliament.

11. August Wilhelm (1722-1758)

You’ll see. He’ll be part of the main storyline.

12. Anna Amalie (Amélie) (1723-1783)

Princess-Abbess of Quedlinburg. Spent most of her life in Berlin, studied music theory, collected music, supported musicians, and composed.

13. Friedrich Heinrich Ludwig (1726-1802)

Henry my boy! He too is part of the main storyline. Frederick 2.0 - now even gayer.

14. August Ferdinand (1730-1813)

Ferdinand married his niece (daughter of Sophie) and built Schloss Bellevue, the presidential palace of Germany.

// Since you should probably get to hear something interesting for my birthday: A family friend who somewhat shares my obsession got me this memory game with a bunch of pictures relating to Fritz. This was one of them, #31, "The so-called Katte". Apparently it is a medium sized painting by an unknown artist, which is kept at Schloss Charlottenburg in Berlin. I did not know of its existence, but it sure is interesting! Compared to the yellow painting, the eyebrow-denseness certainly has lessened, but at least dear Hans has the expression everyone kept describing him with: "A look of impending doom". This somewhat weirdly proportioned painting (you're used to that on my blog, hahaaaa...) has certainly sparked my interest. I'll try to find it the next time I make it to Berlin!
