So about this blog...

So I don’t usually make caps or my own actual content, but this k-drama was so unexpectedly gay I felt like I had to make some fucking content for it on tumblr because it’s got like… near 0 attention. And not a single dedicated blog.

As I was telling a friend of mine, I just can’t let this slide.

Backstory: So I was just surfing through Netflix when I saw this ‘Netflix Original’ Korean show called White Nights with Lee Yo Won who an actress I loved in Queen Seon Deok (and after that, this show called 49 Days which I don’t remember much about now, but I remember I liked it, surprisingly, since I mostly dislike Korean dramas.)

This is her in QSD, (If you haven’t watched it and badass women and period dramas are your thing, watch this drama. It is still one of my favourites, and definitely worth watching up to Episode 50.)

She is a cutie pie. But for some reason, i keep watching her in badass roles. (Eventually she becames a badass in QSD but I’ll let you watch to figure that out.) But yes. Badass again in this show.

^This is actually her in Night Light (which seems to be the direct translation from the internet. But in Netflix they’ve called it White NIghts instead). Anyway. MORE ON THAT LATER.

The point was, I almost skipped it, but I was really bored that day so I decided I was going to just watch one episode to see. It only had 2 stars out of 5, but I really just wanted to give it a try. Just one episode. I generally dislike Korean dramas actually (at least all the popular ones recommended to me when I was in high school when all my friends were into the Korean wave never really struck a chord with me.)

And I’m glad I did because I was shocked at how fucking gay it seemed in the first episode.

Like shocked.

Let me tell you something. When I watch any media, I generally put on my ‘straight blinders’. Look, I want things to be gay as much as the next queer woman, but the shows I watch are mostly stuff that’s appeared on my Tumblr dash after a f/f pairing has been declared. This was the case for The 100, Wynonna Earp, Supergirl, and probably a bunch more stuff I’m forgetting. (Pretty sure Jessica Jones and OUAT too, at some point back, anyway).

The point is, when I watch things, I pretty much expect hetnorm stuff. This is especially true for Asian dramas.

Not that it really matters, but I’m Asian and a wlw. I don’t get representation in media. Not really. And I just wasn’t expecting it from a mainstream (MBC is one of the main channels) Korean drama of all places.

Once upon a time, when I watched this drama, I would have missed the gay ‘undertone’ (really). But now that I’m no longer a ‘baby lesbian’ watching something like this… actually really struck me.

And I just want to give it at least one dedicated blog and fucking screaming because seriously if people think Supercorp from Supergirl has got some hidden sexual tension, this drama brings it to the next fucking frustration level.

Not that I knew, because Netflix’s trailer picture looks like this:

And the description was bland af (but it’s like that for every drama). But I was sure that Lee Yo Won was going to end up with the guy on the left you see in the pic above.

Little did I know that in Korea, the pic below is actually one of their promo pics.

Now if that didn’t foreshadow the fucking gay, I don’t know what is. Are you asking if that is Lee Yo Won’s hand on UEE’s lips in a fucking white suit?

Yes, my friends. (Internal screaming building up). YES IT FUCKING IS.

So anyway, enough fucking backstory. Let’s fangirl.

IT SO GAY!!!

Supercorp who?

Okay so I have just found out about this show and now I can’t stop obsessing over it. I don’t have high expectation because it’s Korean drama, duh. But I was genuinely shocked by its gayness.

This show is called Night light or White nights on Netflix. I’m sure you will fall in love right away.

“You look pretty whatever you do.” Excuse me, yurim? How dare you. Nobody asked. But then you didn’t say you’ve been watching heedo that closely and you’ve decided she’s pretty in everything.

So yurim called heedo instead of her boyfriend when she got swarmed by reporters, and ofc heedo dropped everything and came running? Why do you always act like you’re her knight in shining armor, heedo? Explain immediately.

So yurim spent her LAST night in Korea not with her boyfriend, but with heedo huh? Is that bestie behavior? Nah. Don’t play with me.

That hug in the photobooth when heedo complained her face won’t show because yurim had been hugging her and heedo’s jacket is already off her shoulders and they almost fell because they won’t let go of each other —

Shut the f up, you’re not best friends. NOPE. Even seungwan wanted you to kiss when she pulled you two closer.

Nope. No heterosexual explanation. I’m not being delusional.

But on a sadder note: GOD, this burden on yurim’s shoulders. She’s too young to be worrying about money. It wasn’t just yijin who needed to grow up fast. Her, too.
