I read and understood the comic, read the comments, replies, and stewed over it all day. Artists seeking a fanbase online, original concepts, cynical mashups, putting gaining followers above establishing one’s own creative brand, is something my friends and I talk about constantly. So after reading all that, this is what I took from it. It’s more worthwhile long-term to do your own thing, if that’s what you really want to do. There are plenty of people whose goal is to work for others’ projects or on established IPs, and that’s cool! However, if you want to put out original works, don’t bail because the note count isn’t as high as that Furiosa/Rey mashup fanart that you made out of genuine love for those movies. Keep plugging away, and plugging away, and plug away some more. You’re playing a long game here.
