In case some English-speaking people are curious: the text is based on a Polish sea shanty (set to the melody of The Rattlin’ Bog), about a storm that the crew encountered sailing through the Pacific; they start listing all the cargo that the storm swept away (such as a crate of herrings, a barrel of cheese, the first mate’s underwear, and the captain), but the barrel of rum was fortunately saved, held down by half of the crew : D Stede sums it up with: “It was one hell of a storm!”
