Stop tagging me to fight your arguments for you.

@takashi0 / takashi0.tumblr.com

And also don't harass people in arguments. You know better than that. Proship for life, if that bothers you go somewhere else.

As someone in and around their 30’s it has been INSANE to see feminism in popular media descend through

  1. Women can wear pants and play sports and that’s equality. Women don’t just belong inside the house. This woman has a career
  2. This woman can be a mechanic just like a man could. She’s probably still a lesbian, though, which is basically the closest to a man a woman can *be*, and explains everything. But she’s still a person!
  3. If a woman superhero CHOOSES to wear stilettos to fight crime, that’s girl power! This comic character written and designed by men wears a bikini and has a waist size of 12 inches because it makes her FEEL POWERFUL! Girls don’t HAVE to dress boyish to be strong! She can make you a sandwich AND be a feminist! Girl power!
  4. What, are you saying women HAVE to do boy things to be taken seriously? Who are you to tell a woman what to do? Maybe some women NEED to get their hair and nails done twice a month to feel powerful! Maybe a lot of women WANT to be stay-at-home moms!
  5. What I don’t think you understand is that women have an inherent feminine spirituality which guides them towards maternal and nurturing paths. Women need to honour their divine female aura to keep their. Their fuckin. Their chakras together or some shit. You should put quartz up your hooha and huff wheatgrass. Leaving manual labour and science and technology to men is natural and good for you spiritually
  6. Uh she can’t do that, that’s a blue job, she’s a pink job girly. Food? Yeah, she’s having #girl dinner, which is a handful of almonds. Time for our 15 step skincare routine, which is empowering. Hashtag #girlboss. Ew no, touching dirt? She’s just a girl. You can’t expect a girl to do that. Haha #girl logic

Like obviously demonizing and belittling stereotypically feminine interests and occupations isn’t the answer and that’s not what I MEAN, I just see the argument going from

  1. Why would you want to wear pants? Boy stuff is icky anyways
  2. Women have the same potential as men
  3. Women can do anything men can!
  4. Women shouldn’t be TOO MUCH like men, though.
  5. In fact, maybe women choosing to stick to historically female roles is BETTER.
  6. Actually, maybe women NEED to stick to feminine things.
  7. Woman actually have completely different needs and impulses than men.
  8. Is staying at home and raising babies the REAL empowerment?
  9. Women need to make sandwiches to survive actually
  10. Women are weak and incapable of complex thought and that’s *better* than being a man
  11. Why would you want to wear pants? Boy stuff is icky anyways

You know when I was young a video being filmed in vertical instead of horizontal was the greatest sin imaginable like it was ugly and lazy and now every video in the world is filmed in vertical. TV commercials are filmed in vertical

One piece of internet advice that should be brought back is to lurk moar. It's an old image board advice. Basically, when going to a new site lurk around a bit, explore and don't speak to other people on the site. It helps with learning websites in general, so you learn their culture and don't make an ass of yourself.

Fandom Problem #8279:

“Shipping this means you don’t see the character as their own person and only as the other character’s love interest!” Oh but the same can’t be said of your ships? Is it impossible for me to like this particular character on their own merits while also shipping them with [insert the other character]? I’m sorry you’ve run into bad shippers who do that to the character but it’s dumb for you to declare I don’t appreciate them on their own if I ship them with [insert the other character].

Okay…

Do you know what set Enchanted apart from every other parody of Disney? Enchanted wasn’t a parody at all. Enchanted was a pastiche. (A pastiche of Disney done by Disney with Disney. I’ll get to that last part in a minute.)

See, a parody mocks something. A pastiche may poke fun at it but its ultimate goal is to always, always, celebrate it.

And the people behind Enchanted went so hard. Every single scene was filled with nothing less than pure respect and devotion to Disney, even as they were making jokes about the overused tropes that previous Disney films used.

So yes, you have wonderfully cheesy jokes like this:

While also having genuine, heartfelt, nonironic, moments like this:

That whole dance sequence was phenomenal. They didn’t have to go that hard but they did because they wanted to immerse you in the feeling of Disney!

I mean, look at this, right here:

It’s obviously a pastiche of this shot from Beauty and the Beast:

A pastiche, not a parody, because they weren’t mocking it. They were saying, “Hey, remember that beautiful scene that blew you away, yeah, it blew us away too, we’re going to make an homage to it because we loved it so much.”

And that’s just one of the hundreds of references and easter eggs in the film.

Like we all know the scene in the park where they burst into sing and Robert’s just standing there like:

Classic!

A hilarious parody but it’s not a parody, it’s a pastiche, because when they’re bursting into song, it’s done to genuinely celebrate old Disney songs and not just mock them. Hey, fun fact, you know these dancers:

They’re the Chimney Sweepers (the actors who played them in Mary Poppins)!

They loved the Chimney Sweepers so they brought back the actors to do a three-second cameo in the film! There are hundreds of references and callbacks like that throughout the movie, all done to not only have a laugh at how cheesy Disney is but to celebrate that cheesiness with Disney, by Disney, with Disney (i/e: the references). It was the perfect homage!

That’s why Kristoff loudly scoffing about marrying a boy you just met falls flat; it’s meant to mock and not celebrate.

That’s why the new trailer with the princesses being reduced to one-dimensional archetypes while Vanellope looks scared for their wellbeing doesn’t work for me.

The jokes are funny, the animation was pretty, but there was no heart behind it.

Hell, even Shrek (and Shrek 2) of all things knew how to be a pastiche instead of an outright parody. That’s how you got genuinely epic moments like this:

Where they realized that yes, these tropes make for comedy gold, but there’s still something about them to be celebrated.

When Shrek celebrates Disney more than Disney’s celebrating Disney, there’s something wrong!

And I really hope that this new meta “haha we’re not like the other Disney films, we’re edgy, we’re mocking the old tropes” trend doesn’t stick around. Because these tropes may be sappy af, they may be overused, and there may be better ones out there, but they still deserve a happily ever after.

IME, conservatives generally still hate EVs.

They just don't want terrorists "protesters" to blow them up and set dealerships on fire - among other vandalism - because Elon got cancelled over nothing.

Or for any other reason.

By no means defending their actions, but the Left doesn’t exactly hate EVs now, they just hate Tesla specifically.

Still fucking stupid though.

Anonymous asked:

Not to sound overly paranoid, but do you think that Texas bill is gonna pass? No matter how much we all gather around and say how ridiculous or insane it is, it sets a dangerous precedent for the other states if it passes. What gets me is that they're blatantly saying context doesn't matter and that there's a possibility that they could just say any piece of media they don't like falls under this bill.

I'm conservative too, and the way they view any kind of explicit material, no matter why it exists, is the same way leftists view offensive remarks or words. The reason why the words were said doesn't matter, leftists are angry that the words were said at all. The reason why the explicit material exists doesn't matter, conservatives are angry that the explicit material exists at all.

"Free speech is all fine and dandy until you say or make something we don't like, then you and it gotta go," is by far the worst political take in history, and neither side is immune to it.

That Texas bill is the first thing since the shift that has got me worried. But I’m not in Texas, there’s always the possibility it doesn’t pass/get’s a lot of backlash, and we’ve had bills like this pass before that has quickly been repealed due to it being deemed unconstitutional in retrospect. But between the fear-mongering all over the internet about everything, and the recent cases of Chinese authors getting arrested for smut, my paranoid brain is afraid I’m going to get in trouble for reading shit like Black Butler, so that’s great.

These are two different asks but I'm combining them because they're basically about the same thing.

I'm pretty sure the bill will pass. Texas is a red state (supermajority I believe) and it already went through the house with every Republican voting for it. It will be sold as a "protect children from pedophiles" bill which will give them the cover they need to ignore the people who have free speech concerns. Which is infuriating on multiple levels, not the least of which is the fact that they're going to give ammo to the people who criticize any legislation passed to protect children as a cover for taking people's rights away. The next time a red state wants to ban child transitioning the trans cult will point to this law and say "Look at what conservatives do when they claim they're protecting children. They just lock you up for reading manga and don't save a single child from a predator" and they won't even be completely lying this time.

As for the law being repealed by t he Supreme Court, I don't think it will be. "Obscenity" has long been held to be a legal exception to the first amendment, and there are enough right wing justices that I don't see any challenge to the law succeeding.

But this is just a part of the larger return towards puritan censorship on the right. The porn ban freaks are coming out of the woodwork demanding anything lewd and impure be banned. The anti-video game scolds are picking up where Anita Sarkeesian left off trying to ban sexy, scantily clad characters from video games. Even parts of the anti-woke are picking up where the woke left off demanding that all media cater to their specific tastes and their specific tastes alone.

So many people who just spent years fighting against censorship from the left now demand censorship as long as it's coming from the right. It's pathetic, and it's going to hand our culture back to the left once it's all said and done.

Gotta wonder how many of the people cheering her on for this one also voted for the man, lots of them I would guess.

They spent years denying that his health was declining because their 'betters' told them it was false, and when they find out it was a lie they attack the old man instead of the people who lied to them.

I mean I'm not surprised, but it is kinda funny.
