shoutout to slow growers, late bloomers, people whose plans got derailed by circumstances beyond their control or their own choices, people who never had a plan to begin with, people who have had to start over when theyre too old to feel like theyre supposed to be where they are, people who cant pretend theyre built for the environment theyre in, and everyone who's not living the life they thought they would. im proud of you for making it this far and i hope you keep going until youre happy ♡

@tuulikki I was horrified too, and looked it up, and it's downtown Houston in 1978. (The incredible photo is by Alex MacLean.) It has somewhat improved since then,

1978 / 2011

but still "most of Houston city center is car parking and empty lots"

and then there's the horror of the Katy Freeway, of the 26 lanes.

I also learned that Houston is so hostile to pedestrians that "it radicalised someone into moving to the Netherlands and starting a YouTube channel about city planning" and walkable cities.

I knew immediately that was Houston. I mean they genuinely can't build very high because of the land and the flood plain, but like..... But could be better. Some four story commie blocks instead of nothing but single or double story with the occasion larger building that's probably an office
