hello I’m here with your irregularly scheduled reminder that I write fic, and if you’re looking for some catradora in these trying times you could try one of the following (in descending order of length):

a disclaimer: this fic is tagged both catradora and glimmadora. don’t let that dissuade you! one of the most common reactions I get is “I almost didn’t read it because of the ship tags but I’m so glad I did”. also a commenter once described it as “one of the best things I’ve read all year in any medium.” just sayin’.

anyway this is a regency romance. everyone wears extremely dramatic clothing. catra and adora cheat people at cards. adora fights no fewer than three duels. glimmer shoots someone. there is high society drama and an epilogue gratuitously set in venice. there is fluff, and angst, and a scene in which catra purrs for the first time. also, kissing. (a note on the tags: it is rated M out of an abundance of caution, if you’re okay with making out and suggestive flirting you’ll be just fine.)

elements of hope (T, 23k)

remember when catra was going to go to beast island, and micah was going to be there, and he was going to set her on her redemption arc? no? then maybe you should read this fic. also featuring: scorpia and adora on a road trip, having complicated bonding times.

a two body problem, solved (T, 3.5k)

modern hurt/comfort where catra is a poet in an established relationship with adora. featuring: older, wiser catra; insecure adora; scotland, for some reason. also, the only fic where you get to judge my prose AND my poetry!

doing it properly (T, 2k)

the cutest fic about blood-sucking arthropods you’ll ever read, or your money back. (note: does not actually feature any blood-sucking arthropods, but DOES feature fluff, a first kiss, and many many gentle touches)

you should definitely all read the heiress and the thief and marvel at how I predicted Adora’s character arc through dumb luck and perseverance

I put a lot of thought into my fics. this one, on the other hand, is three chapters of fluff that I regurgitated after each of the three times I watched season 5, and to top it off it breaks my “never name fics after songs” rule. naturally, it is my most popular she-ra fic ever. jk I love you all, I know exactly why you needed this & it’s because I needed it too!

last night I had a friend who had never played a video game before play “a short hike”. as in: she started the game and I explained that she needed to press a button to advance the text. when she got control of claire i explained that she needed to use the left control stick to walk around. i was worried she would get stuck or find additional controls confusing - but she did not! she found it fairly easy to remember the button to equip items, after a little bit she got the hang of walking around, and she had fun exploring and finding the many delights of hawk peak provincial park. she finished the game in about 2.5 hours with 9 golden feathers all on her own. i was so proud of her and also really felt more than ever before that the game is such a triumph. she had to try a number of times to reach the summit, and it was so exciting each time she tried to see if she would make it! it was a true video game experience of trying a couple of times to beat a “hard part” but with no stress, so accessible, just lovely.

A little history, because it brings me joy: back in June 2020, spop s5 had just come out, catradora wedding oneshots were popping up at a delightfully rapid pace, and Fuhadeza and I had just met about two weeks prior. We got to talking about how we would do one, if we ever tried. Not that either of us wanted to write a wedding fic. Well, not that either of us wanted to write a wedding fic alone.

So, pro-tip for making new friends: immediately trap them in drafting hell with you for a whole year. It’ll either really work out or it really won’t, and I am very happy to put this in the former camp.
