‘You know,’ Dean commented, over the sound of Metallica blasting through the speakers. ‘We’re pretty close to Sioux Falls, we probably should stop in and see the old grump.’
Sam looked at the road sign they passed and back at his brother.
‘Dude, Bobby’s is 800km in the opposite direction.’
‘Like I said not that far.’
‘The Bunker’s like 400km in the direction we’re going.’
‘Yup, pretty close. That’s what I thought.’
Sam looked at his brother like he’d lost his mind. But just shook his head and let him go. Obviously he wanted to see Bobby.
They pulled up at old wrecking yard, Sam watched curiously as Dean straightened his clothes and fixed his hair. His really had lost it.
‘Hey Bobby,’ Dean called as they walked through the front door.
‘What are you two idjit’s doing here?’ he groaned.
‘We were in the area and thought we’d stop by,’ Sam commented rolling his eyes.
‘Hope you don’t mind?’ Dean commented, looking around.
‘No, not usually. It’s just Y/N’s here…’
‘Y/N’s home?’ Dean asked. ‘Really? I didn’t think she was going to make it until after New Years.’
‘Neither did I,’ Bobby frowned.
‘Where is she? We should say hi,’ Dean commented, clearing his throat.
Sam looked at his brother, his jaw dropping. Now everything made sense. Although he hadn’t seen her car outside.
‘Kitchen, apparently I’m not eating properly. You’d think she was the parent,’ Bobby grumbled.
Sam and Dean walked into the kitchen, and looked at the woman making pie. Her blue eyes lighting up when she saw them.
Sam went over and gave her a kiss on the cheek, and a hug. Trying to avoid her floured covered hands.
Dean followed suit and struggled to not let his lips or hug linger.
‘You smell like pecan,’ he murmured as he pulled back.
‘Fridge, bottom right. Beer top left.’
‘You know how to treat a man,’ he smirked.
‘So,’ she grinned. ‘Dad didn’t say you were coming.’
‘It was a last minute decision,’ Sam explained, watching his brother carefully.
‘We were in the area,’ Dean told her, looking over her shoulder at the pie casing’s.
‘Sam, can you come translate this heap of crap for me?’ Bobby called.
‘Sure,’ he took a drink and left.
‘In the area? You were the other side of Kansas?’ she laughed, turning to Dean.
Dean kissed her gently, running his hands along her hips. Feeling her struggle not to touch him because it would leave hand prints and proof that the two were seeing each other.
‘For you, I’m always in the area. God, I missed you,’ he mumbled, kissing her again.
The two heard foot steps and Dean stepped back.
‘So what brings you here early?’
‘Liar, your car needed a service and you were too cheap to pay someone,’ Bobby muttered as he walked into the kitchen.
‘Well, it’s not like I’m made of money.’
‘Honey, you’re a doctor and medical examiner,’ Bobby groaned.
‘Right, forgot that part,’ she grinned, kissing her Dad on the cheek. ‘I missed you and didn’t have any work so I thought I’d come visit.’
‘Still sounds suss,’ Bobby grumbled.
‘How the hell is that suss? I visit all the time?’
Bobby grumbled and grabbed a beer from the fridge.
‘If you don’t want me visiting just say so and I’ll stay away.’
Y/N looked at her old man, and bit her lip to stop from smiling. There wasn’t a chance in hell he was going to let her stop visiting. She came by often, spoke to him almost daily and it still wasn’t enough.
‘I’ll put up with it, ya idjit,’ he grinned.
Bobby grumbled a bit and walked back into the living room.
Y/N felt a hand snake across her back and lips on her neck.
‘Tell me you need the shops or something?’ Dean moaned in her ear.
‘I need the shops or something. Mostly something.’
Dean groaned as he pulled her back against him. It had been weeks since they last saw each other and two months before that time. He heard a noise and swore under his breath and stepped back again.
‘So Bobby’s gone out to look at your car,’ Sam commented.
‘Yeah, thought he might,’ Y/N chuckled. ‘It just needs a new oil filter and brake pads. But you know Dad, unless he does it, it’s not done right.’
‘Regardless of how well he taught you?’ Sam grinned.
‘I got told off for not calling him to come change a flat, 1200 miles away,’ Y/N commented rolling her eyes.
Dean grinned, that sounded like Bobby.
‘He likes to know you still need him.’
‘I know, that’s why I came when she needed work.’
‘So Y/N,’ Sam commented, watching as she filled the pie casing with apple mix.
‘I was wondering. You don’t have to. I know it will be awkward. But while we are all here if you wanted to, you know, maybe go get something to eat or see a movie? Or something,’ Sam muttered.
He watched the way her hands slowly stopped working, as her jaw dropped slightly. He struggled to hide a smirk as Dean’s jaw locked in place, before quickly clearing his throat and turning away. Although he could see the tension in Dean’s shoulders.
‘I…ah…that was unexpected,’ Y/N laughed, gently.
Sam watched as she looked over at Dean for help, but he didn’t say or do anything. Sam struggled not to laugh, this was too good. These two were actually seeing each other. It wasn’t just a crush Dean had. Now that he knew it explained so much. He considered telling them that he knew, but wanted some fun first.
‘It’s just, I’ve liked you for a while now. What’s not to like? You’re gorgeous, and smart and sweet. And I just keep thinking about you, all the time. I can’t stop.’
Sam watched as Dean’s free hand clenched into a fist and he downed his beer. He watched the colour rise into Y/N cheeks. This was just too good.
‘I’m not really in the right place for a relationship, Sammy.’
Y/N smiled and turned her attention back to the pies. Sam watched as Dean relaxed a bit. Sam moved closer and took one of the apples and ate it, watching her.
‘What about a friends with benefits type thing?’ Sam offered, running his fingers up her arm and along her collarbone. ‘You would not believe how many times I have wanted to just take you.’
Dean slammed the empty beer bottle onto the counter and walked out.
‘I’m sorry Sam, I can’t. I like you, but not like that. More like a brother. I know it’s not what you want to hear but…’
‘It’s ok. Honest, no hard feelings,’ he chuckled, kissing her head. ‘Friends is fine. I swear.’
Y/N looked up at him unsure.
‘Seriously Y/Nny, I’m good.’
Y/N finished with the pies and cleaned up and went to find Dean.
‘So, you and Sammy?’ he grumbled, from under the hood of the impala.
‘There’s no me and Sammy. You know that,’ she sighed, leaning against the radiator.
She watched as Dean’s eyes roamed up her legs, as he checked to make sure no one was around, before he leant over and kissed the thigh closest to him.
‘I’m yours Dean and yours alone.’
‘I know,’ he sighed. ‘I just, crap I didn’t think he liked you.’
‘I think there’s more too it. He seemed fine when I rejected him.’
‘Maybe he’s just wanting some, it’s been a while,’ Dean muttered, checking the spark plugs.
‘I don’t actually need to know that.’
‘I was thinking. Maybe we should tell them?’
Dean looked at her, she knew he didn’t want to.
‘We’ve been together how long now?’
Y/N chuckled. Their relationship started off as friends with benefits after a drunk New Years, four years ago. Then it was hook ups when they were near by and moved into a relationship. They didn’t say anything to start, because they didn’t know how they would go in a relationship. Two and a bit years in, it was going great. Though it would be better if they seen more of each other and weren’t sneaking around.
‘I’m serious, it’s time.’
‘This again?’ Dean sighed.
‘It’s been over two years, Dean.’
‘And it’s going great, why change it?’
‘Because it would stop your brother hitting on me, allow us to spend some actual time together and stop the sneaking around.’
‘Whatever, just forget it,’ she sighed, walking off.
Dean watched her leave and terrible. He wanted nothing more than to publically claim her as his, to stop others from trying to make a move, to be able to kiss her without fear of being caught. But to announce it publically was the same as putting a target on her head. And there was not a chance in hell he doing that. Not to her.
He went inside later and found her on the sofa reading a lore book, cup of tea next to her. He squatted down in front of the sofa and ran his hands along her legs.
‘I don’t want to fight, Baby,’ he said quietly.
Dean sighed. They were about to fight.
‘Are you embarrassed to be dating me? Or just ashamed?’
‘What? Neither!’ he growled. ‘I can’t believe you think that.’
‘Really? What else am I meant to think,’ she snapped.
Dean looked as his girlfriend, at the pain in her eyes. He brought his hand up to her face and felt his heart break as she pushed it away.
The FBI phone rang and Y/N stood up and went to go answer it. Putting the person on hold while she got her Dad.
Dean watched as she came inside and grabbed her purse and her Dad’s keys.
‘Want some company?’ he offered, hoping she will say yes. That she’d let him come along so they could sort it out.
‘Nope. I think I’ll be better off on my own.’
Dean watched her walked out, struggling with what she just said. Trying to figure out what she meant.
‘You two aren’t at it again are you?’ Bobby sighed as he hung up. ‘What’s it about this time?’
‘It’s fine Bobby. Just a misunderstanding.’
Bobby grumbled something and headed back outside to finish working on Y/N’s car.
Dean picked up his cell and rang her mobile.
‘Please tell me there wasn’t some double meaning behind that?’ he pleaded to her message bank. ‘Just trust me on this. I have my reasons and it’s nothing like that. I am the furthest from embarrassed and ashamed as a guy can get.’
Dean looked up and saw Sam in the doorway.
‘Lover’s tiff?’ he smirked.
‘I figured it out when we got here. So,’ Sam grinned, leaning against the desk. ‘How long have you two been together?’
‘Figure it out? Then why the hell did you ask her out?’
‘To watch you squirm. I expected you to crack and tell me to get lost,’ Sam chuckled. ‘I have to say, Dean, I’m surprised you didn’t hit me.’
‘It was hard not too,’ Dean admitted. ‘You touch her like that again and I’ll put you in hospital.’
Sam grinned at his brother, ‘How long?’
‘Unofficially four years, officially a little over two.’
‘And you haven’t told anyone?’
Sam looked at him and frowned. Dean sighed and told him what had happened. Sam only upset Dean more by agreeing with Y/N.
By 10pm she still wasn’t home and Dean was starting to panic. He had messaged her and called her but got no response.
He finally heard Bobby’s Chevy a little before 11. Dean walked outside and waited for her on the steps.
Y/N didn’t respond, she just walked up the stairs and past Dean. He grabbed her elbow stopping her.
‘I’m done. I’m not living a life where the only time I can be with someone is in the shadows. I understood at the beginning but I just don’t see why it needs to continue now. It’s just too hard, Dean. That side of things is over. I’m your friend and that’s it. Goodnight.’
Dean felt his chest get tight, tears sprung into his eyes against his will and he struggled to breathe.
He felt his grip on her elbow get tighter.
‘I wasn’t giving you an option.’
‘I don’t care, I’m not…we are so not breaking up over this. You are the only good thing in my crappy life.’
‘I wish that were true,’ she said quietly. ‘Night, Dean.’
Dean yanked on her elbow and pulled her in close to him, kissing her.
‘You have no idea what you mean to me.’
‘After two years of keeping me hidden from everyone, I think I have a good idea,’ she told him sadly.
Dean felt her elbow slip through his fingers and watched as she walked away. He spent the night messaging her from his room, trying to get her to talk to him. They had fought over this before, but never like this. In all this time she had never just walked away from him. She had never ended it.
Dean came down stairs after a long night with no sleep. He could hear Y/N and Bobby talking.
‘So is it work, or you avoiding the idjit upstairs?’ Bobby asked.
‘What are you two fighting about this time?’
Dean smiled as Bobby ignored her answer. Y/N often used work to escape everything.
‘I don’t know, Daddy, you pick. We fight about everything.’
‘I know, and usually it’s me or Sam caught in the damn middle.’
‘So stay out of it and that won’t happen.’
Dean stepped into the door and looked at her. God she looked good. Y/N glanced at him, before returning her attention to the travel mug in front of her. Dean felt his heart break some more and his blood ran cold. She didn’t even smile at him. He always got a smile. The sick fear he felt last night came flood back, he struggled to keep from throwing up. She really had ended it.
‘Where’s the job? Can I give you a lift?’
Y/N shook her head, ‘My car’s fine.’
She grabbed her bag and coffee, kissed her Dad on the head and went to leave.
‘Y/N,’ Dean said softly grabbing her arm. ‘I’m sorry.’
It was all he could say with her Dad in the room. It was nothing like he wanted to say, nothing like he wanted to do. But without revealing everything, his hands were tied.
‘Sure. No worries. That fixes everything,’ she rolled her eyes and walked out.
Dean followed her out towards her car and watched as she dumped her bag on the floor in the front.
‘Can you please talk to me? Discuss this?’
‘I have a body that needs my attention.’
‘It’s dead. I’m sure it can wait.’
‘It’s happy to be seen in public with me, and right now that’s better than what I get here,’ she snapped, climbing into her Mazda.
Dean swore and kicked the tyre of the impala as she pulled out and drove off. He waited until he had calmed down a bit before heading inside.
‘What’s going on?’ Bobby sighed.
‘Nothing my arse. Is this to do with the fact that you both fail miserably at keeping your relationship secret?’
Dean stopped making his coffee and looked at the old man at the table.
‘You really think that I didn’t know? You two ain’t that bloody good at hiding things. You never have been.’
‘Why the hell didn’t you tell us you knew?’
‘Why the hell didn’t you tell me?’
‘Given that, I’d say my little girl wants to tell and you don’t.’
Dean turned his attention back to his coffee, not saying a word.
‘Start talking, cos right now you ain’t winning over her Daddy, ya idjit.’
‘If it becomes public, she becomes a target,’ Dean muttered. ‘I care for her, a lot. More than I expected to. More than I should. I can’t lose her Bobby. Not that it matters, she ended it last night,’ he sighed.
Dean threw his coffee down the drain and grabbed the whiskey.
Bobby didn’t know what to say. He’d known about them for a while, to begin with he thought it was a fling, but over time he saw how serious it had gotten. He was starting to get annoyed that they were keeping it secret. He knew Dean enough to be wary of him, but he also knew him enough to know he cared and wouldn’t do anything to hurt her. That he would keep her safe. He just didn’t expect that commitment to cost him their relationship.
‘She ended it because you didn’t want to make it public?’
‘She thinks I’m embarrassed by her. I swear I’m not. I just can’t bury her Bobby. I can’t. Not her.’
Bobby had no idea what to say. He gave Dean’s shoulder a squeeze and left him to his drink.
He tried calling Y/N but her cell was off. She was examining a body in town for Jodie, so he wasn’t expecting her to answer anyway.
Y/N finished the exam and threw the gloves in the bin. Her assistant cleaned up while she went to find Jodie.
‘You won’t be finding the killer, I will.’
‘Djinn from the look of it. Hopefully I can deal with it before another body shows up.’
‘Let me know if you need help.’
‘Tell your Dad he had better come see me soon. He owes me a drink,’ she grinned.
Y/N arrived back at her Dad’s well after dark. She dumped her bag by the stairs and went to get a coffee when Dean stopped her.
‘So, your Dad knows. Apparently, he’s known for a while.’
‘You told him?’ she frowned.
Y/N nodded and headed for the kitchen.
‘Can you please, stop being pissed off and talk to me? He knows, so that’s a good thing right?’
‘Were you planning on telling him?’
‘No,’ Dean admitted, realising his mistake as soon as the word left his mouth.
‘Didn’t think so. Look, I have work to do. If you don’t mind.’
‘I do mind. I’m hoping we are more important than work.’
‘We would be if there was a we.’
‘Stop saying that. Stop talking like we’re done. We’re not.’
‘Stop acting like it’s not over. Accept it Dean, move on. I’m not going to be with someone who can’t handle the idea of people knowing we are together. Sorta takes away the seriousness of the relationship. Putting it right back at the booty call stage.’
‘You just don’t understand. I can’t lose you, Y/N,’ Dean growled.
She took her coffee, grabbed her bag and headed for her bedroom.
Y/N worked through the night looking into other deaths, and checking local maps trying to find where the Djinn could be. A couple of hours later she went back down to the kitchen for more coffee and food.
‘Princess,’ Bobby sighed, as she made an appearance.
‘That boy loves you more than you realise. Quit being so hard on him.’
‘That boy can’t handle the idea of people knowing that he has feelings for me.’
‘That boy,’ Bobby grumbled, clearly not in the mood for this, ‘just wants what’s best for you.’
‘Sure. I can see that. Speaks volumes keeping me hidden.’
Bobby sighed and gave up, her stubborn, pig headed personality shone though. Now more than ever.
‘What happened with work?’
‘Don’t take that attitude with me, Missy.’
‘I listened as Jodie complained you owed her a drink.’
Bobby red went and grumbled something before walking out. Only to realise what she did. She distracted him so she could get away. Damn that girl of his.
Y/N went upstairs and continued to look over maps, eventually narrowing it down to two locations she hoped one was the Djinn’s lair. She considered her options. She can hunt, she’d done it plenty of times. But she knew her Dad would be pissed if she went out alone without him or the boys while they were available. But that meant being near Dean. She sat on her bed and closed her eyes. There was no way she could focus with him there. She could however, pack up, kill the Djinn and then return to work. Move on and enjoy her life the best she could.
She decided on the later and got up and started packing up her bags. She heard a knock on her door and turned to see Dean coming in.
‘I’m not ashamed of you. There’s never a time I have even remotely thought that.’
‘So I’m just a booty call.’
‘No. God, not even to start with. I’ve wanted you for as long as I could remember.’
Y/N turned her attention back to her bags and threw her hunting outfit on the bed and the rest into her duffel.
‘Please, Y/N,’ Dean said quietly. ‘I get your mad at me, fine. I’m a jerk and I deserve that. But don’t leave me. Don’t walk away from us.’
Dean watched as she continued with her bags, he realised then what was happening. She was going on a hunt.
‘No, not now. Everything else can wait. Where’s the hunt?’
‘Seriously? This you tell my Dad but you won’t voluntarily tell him that you apparently have feelings for me. You’re such a fuckwit.’
Dean looked at her surprised. Bobby came in and groaned.
‘I’m not getting in the middle of this. You two idjits can sort it out alone.’
‘She’s hunting,’ Dean snapped.
Bobby’s face went red with anger and he looked over at his little girl.
‘I hunt alone all the time, Daddy.’
‘I don’t care. I told you I don’t like you. Damn it Y/N! Start talking!’
The three of them stood there glaring at each other, when Sam came up and handed Bobby the phone.
‘It’s Jodie she wants you or Y/N. Something about a Djinn and another body.’
Dean’s jaw locked in place. Bobby took the phone.
‘I only just found out…Yeah she knows where…Don’t worry, the boy’s and I will sort it out before the night’s over.’
He hung up and threw the phone onto Y/N’s bed.
Y/N sighed, there was no way they would let her go alone, she picked up the piece of paper with the addresses on it and handed it to her Dad.
Bobby looked at it and handed it to Dean.
‘You’re staying put,’ Bobby told her.
She went to protest but he stopped her, ‘Not today. You two can’t be left on a hunt alone with the mood you’re in.’
Bobby turned and walked out leaving them alone once again.
‘We’ll finish this when I get back,’ Dean said softly.
‘There’s nothing to finish, Dean.’
Dean fought back every urge he had to yell and scream. He took a deep shaky breath and crossed the room to stand in front of her.
‘Until I’m back here with you in my arms, where you belong, this argument isn’t finished.’
He leant down and kissed her, his heart shattering that bit more when she didn’t return it. Not even slightly.
‘Please don’t do this. I can’t…’ he whispered, he fought back tears and struggled with the pain as he chest got tight. He could feel his hands shaking. Sure she could be stubborn, but this even for her was too much. Realisation hit him deep down and he wanted to scream and cry. He’d lost her. In trying to keep her safe, he’d lost her.
‘In a minute,’ Dean whispered.
Sam walked in and took in the scene in front of him. It was bad.
Dean shakily grabbed her hand and tried to hold it but she pulled back.
‘I…they know, we…we can…it will all be ok,’ he whispered, struggling to get the words out. ‘We can fix this,’ he tried so hard to sound confident. ‘When I get back. You and I, we’re going to fix this.’
Y/N didn’t say anything. Dean struggled to keep it together. He had to focus though, he had this hunt and then he had to get her back.
The boy’s headed out, each going to one of the two addresses. Dean moved slowly down the stairs of the abandoned warehouse into the subbasement. He looked at the woman hanging from her wrists and he rushed over. He checked her pulse and found she was already dead. He swore and went to turn around when a sharp pain rippled through his head and the world went black.
Dean woke up and groaned as he rolled over in bed. Seeing her there next to him made the morning more bearable, he watched the way the sun caught her hair as it shone through the curtains, the way the sheet hugged her curves. Damn she made mornings worth it. He moved over and wrapped his arms around her and pulled her in to him.
‘Morning, Baby,’ she mumbled, sleepily.
‘Morning,’ he greeted, kissing her neck.
‘How good of a morning?’ she moaned, arching her back as Dean found that sweet spot where her neck joined her shoulder.
He grinned as she rolled over and kissed him.
The two spent the day enjoying each other, watching TV or sleeping. The last hunt was draining and he loved these moments, being home and with her.
He smiled as he came down stairs after a shower.
‘Dad called, he said he’s got a case for you,’ Y/N informed him as she handed him a coffee.
‘You’re working?’ he asked taking in her outfit.
‘Yeah, I called in to cover Max.’
Dean watched as she smiled at him.
‘Have I told you I love you?’ he asked.
‘Nope,’ she grinned cheekily.
Dean chuckled, wrapping his arms around her, ‘I love you and I need you, and you’re Dad had better not have plans to send me away on some cross country hunt.’
‘I love you too. And I’m hoping not. I have plans for tonight.’
‘Naked plans, maybe taking full advantage of that bath plans.’
Dean grinned and kissed her. God he couldn’t get enough. They heard the door open and ignored it. Dean knew Sam was coming to get him but he didn’t care. He could wait.
‘Dean?’ Sam called. ‘Dean!’
‘I think the boss is calling,’ Y/N smiled.
‘He’s not the boss and he can wait.’
‘Dean,’ Sam sighed. ‘Seriously you two are worse than rabbits.’
‘Hey Sammy,’ Y/N smiled. ‘Breakfast? Coffee?’
‘Our house, our rules,’ Dean smirked. ‘You don’t like seeing it, leave.’
Sam shook his head, ‘We can argue over it later. We gotta go. Bobby needs our help. You can make out with her later.’
Dean sulked for a minute before agreeing.
‘Talk to you later, I’ll call and let you know what’s happening,’ he said kissing her gently.
‘No worries. Take Dad’s pie.’
‘I’ll take Bobby’s pie, he will eat it on the way,’ Sam pointed out, going to the fridge.
‘It’s a 20 minute drive.’
‘I know, plenty of time,’ Sam chuckled.
‘Can’t trust you with anything.’
She beamed and him and kissed him again.
‘Be careful you two, I don’t need to be crossing state lines to perform another motel operation.’
‘But you’re willing to cross for something else right?’ Dean whispered in her ear.
‘Wouldn’t be the first time.’
He kissed her again and headed out with Sam.
‘Still can’t believe you two have settled down,’ Sam chuckled as they climbed into the impala.
‘Neither can I,’ Dean smiled.
‘All that worrying about it putting a target on her head was for nothing,’ Sam commented as Dean pulled out the driveway.
Dean glanced at his home in the rear view mirror, he watched as his girl got into her car ready for work.
‘Dean?’ Sam called. ‘Dean! Dean wake up!’
Dean found his body aching, the room dark and smelling of death.
‘Thank God. You ok? How the hell did it get the jump on you?’
Dean looked around and it all came flooding back. Y/N, the break up, the hunt. Y/N. His chest got tight and he struggled to stand.
‘Let’s go,’ Dean growled, he needed to talk to her. He needed to fix this. He needed her.
They arrived back at Bobby’s and Dean went straight upstairs to talk to Y/N. He wanted to apologise, to tell her how he really felt, to beg for her back in a public relationship. He wanted to settle down and use her home as a base, to wake up next to her, not just have a quick session in the shadows. He wanted the whole nine yards. He wanted her.
He walked into the room and found it empty.
‘She left a couple of hours ago. Asked me to tell you to back off,’ Bobby’s said quietly.
Dean yanked his phone from his pocket and called her, listening as it rang out.
‘Dean,’ Bobby said quietly.
‘I screwed up,’ Dean whispered, his voice breaking. ‘I’ve really lost her,’ he muttered.
‘I’m sorry, Dean. Give her time, you know how stubborn that girl can be.’
‘I love her Bobby, I can’t…’
Dean tried her cell again and her house and her office and text and emailed and tried every form of communication she had.
He took off down the stairs and out to his car jumping into it. He drove towards her place, hoping she would be there. He knew she couldn’t travel far because of work.
He sighed with relief as he pulled up behind her car. He ran up to her door and banged on it.
Y/N opened it and he watched as anger flashed across her face.
‘Great,’ she slammed the door shut, Dean just managing to catch it with his foot before it closed.
‘Y/N,’ she corrected, walking away.
‘The minute we made it public it would have put a target on your head,’ he growled.
‘It’s already there because you are Bobby’s kid. But to be dating me as well…I’m so scared they will come for you. I can’t bury you, Y/N. There’d be nothing left for me to live for.’
Y/N watched as he fought back tears and his voice cracked as he spoke.
‘I want nothing more than the tell the world we’re together. That I’m in love with the most amazing girl ever put here.’
‘Do you really think that will happen?’
‘I’ve lost almost everyone else,’ Dean said quietly.
‘Do you think you, Sam or my Dad would let that happen?’
‘God no. We’d hunt down and kill any son of a bitch that ever even thought of hurting you and lock you in the panic room until it’s done.’
Y/N gave him a look and Dean groaned.
‘Baby, we won’t always know it’s happening.’
‘So until we either die or end it, I’m only allowed to be with you when no one’s looking? I’ll never get to spend the night with you, in case someone see’s one of us leaving. I can never hold your hand in public, or kiss you anywhere but behind closed doors.’
Dean felt his heart get heavy, he wanted all that too.
‘Dean, I love you. You have every part of me. But I can’t keep hiding. I get on the job, I get undercover work and not walking about declaring it at the top of our lungs. But I want to be able to see you more often, to have a normal relationship when we do. Even if it does involve hunts on the side and injuries. I want to know that I don’t have to keep lying to my Dad. That hurts, the fact that you keep asking me to.’
Dean looked at her and felt terrible. He knew how close Y/N and Bobby were.
‘I’m so sorry, Baby,’ Dean apologised.
‘So am I. I don’t want to force your hand Dean, that’s not fair either. But I can’t keep doing this.’
‘I want you safe. But I want it all too, Y/N. I want to come here when I’m not hunting or have you come live at the bunker, work in Kansas somewhere. I want you around constantly. That’s the only way I can guarantee that.’
Y/N looked at him confused, ‘Are you asking me to move in with you?’
Dean nodded, ‘I know it’s away from Bobby, but I want you and I don’t care who knows providing I can keep you safe. I can’t do that if it’s months before I see you each time.’
‘You don’t always go back to the bunker,’ Y/N pointed out.
‘So store your stuff there and come on the road with us. It’ll save Sam and I doing the gunky stuff with the bodies and calling you for answers.’
‘You want me around, all the time?’
‘I don’t want you anywhere else. I don’t want to be anywhere else.’
He watched as she started to smile and then stopped.
‘We are together. I can keep you safe. On the job we’re work partners, but otherwise I get to the be the annoying and yet adorable boyfriend.’
He watched as she grinned at him.
‘People will find out about us,’ Y/N warned.
‘Compared to losing you, that’s nothing. Y/N, I’m willing to fight off the forces of heaven and hell to keep you safe. But I can’t handle not having you as my girl. I’ll do what it takes to keep you.’
‘Including loud, hot makeup sex? Cos I live alone and at this point neither of us need to work.’
Dean watched as she walked backwards towards her stairs, unbuttoning her shirt as she went. Dean grinned at her, that’s his girl. He moved quickly towards her and heard her squeal watched as she turned and ran up the stairs, Dean hot on her trail. He caught her at the top and pulled her into a hot and heavy make out sessions, stripping off her shirt and his shirt, belt and boots as he pushed her towards the bedroom.
There was going to be some pretty amazing benefits having her with them. His only regret was not asking sooner.
