abstract and modern art haters are sooo snobby like klein literally Created an entirely new pigment and then painted a canvas in a way where the brush strokes wouldn't be visible. the insinuation that people with no skill could reproduce that is so annoying because unless you are skilled at color mixing and painting you definitely couldn’t lmao

i hope it's okay to add this because i think it hits the nail directly on the head

Honestly, it's like picking up a book and saying "I know all these words, I can type, I could have written this" like there's no middle step between the technical ability and the finished work.

I don't often add to posts, but I think this is why we see so many people thinking they're artists because they typed a prompt into a programme. Some folks don't realise that art is the idea, the skill, the innovation, the feeling, the message. It's not one thing. It's the combination of a bunch of abilities that have been sharpened over the years, and it comes from people who are willing to do the work to make things happen. "I could have made that" yes but you didn't, and your computer programme didn't make you do it either.

it's good to stand on the shoulders of giants. To pretend your height is that of your body plus the giant's is bullshit.

god. GOD. the underlying anger in everything terry writes really IS apparent in hogfather bc fuck u mean this is how things should be? no the fuck it shouldn't. poor people shouldn't have to be satisfied with what they get, that's just fucking capitalism. i REALLY like that terry decided to use death as projection for what he thinks bc death doesn't know anything and it has to be explained to him and by it being explained to him it shows how fucking stupid those things are. bc ok here's this world where an equivalent of santa ACTUALLY exists and, because it mirrors our world, it's still unjust. santa actually fucking exists in this world and he could give ANYONE ANYTHING bc he's essentially a god and people gave him that power by making him up, BUT because ppl imagined him in a way that poor people don't get shit (like they usually do) and rich people get EVERYTHING they want, he exists like that. whereas death has seen the absolutely WORST of humanity and he STILL thinks that's bullshit and it's not how it should be, it's just how it goes. bc capitalism is always capitalism where there's money and the world will always be fucked up as long as there are oppressor to hold it up. like i just.

I’m tired of advertising. All of it. I don’t want any ads even for things I like. Even if I would 100% buy it. It’s INSANE that we just accept that people can throw a business flier in our face at any time of day in any setting. Aren’t you mad? Don’t you just want to go apeshit?

"but what about the funny ones!" i hate the funny ones especially. its not enough for them to try and sell me something, now they have to wrap it in godawful post-post-post-ironic "teehee, i'm not like *other* advertisements" cloying self-awareness in an attempt to be Hash Tag Relatable. can't even hate ads in peace anymore, some social media intern at Wendy's made some viral tweets and now the vultures all want "in" on the "joke".

"we know everyone hates ads, so-" yes! you have successfully identified the problem, Trendy Millennial Marketing Firm, and i have identified the solution, and it is not a charmingly corny breaking bad meme about mattress sales, it is Ublock Origin. now fuck off you twee little asshole

J. K. Rowling and Neil Gaiman are such a funny contrast to me, like Rowling: Oh, and by the way, I put gay characters in my books. People: Is there anything... showing that? Rowling: No. Also trans women don't deserve respect People: wtf Gaiman: Here are some immortals that transcend all human concepts of gender and attraction who use a variety of pronouns, and also some clearly canon human queers. People: Are the immortals queer? Gaiman: That is an entirely valid way to view them. Other people: Ugh, pushing a modern woke agenda. It used to be- Gaiman: Fuck you

FYI every purchase of any of The Adventure Zone music on Griffin McElroy's Bandcamp will be entirely donated to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund for the rest of the year. His music is set at 'name your price', and the McElroys are also going to match the donations.

If you've listened to even a bit of any TAZ campaign, you surely know what a fantastic musician Griffin is, and there is no better time to purchase his music than now.

bandcamp friday is december 1st 2023!

I just had a dream that I was rewatching Parks and Rec and I was wondering how I didn't notice the first time around that all the characters had the word "Park" in their surname. Because all the characters did, indeed, have the word "Park" in their surname. Like Leslie Knopark and Ron Spark and Ann Parks. Like Sailor Moon with their elements. And I was like "wow, that's a great way to incorporate the show's themes into your characters". Thankfully I don't write for a living or anything no

[ID: A video clip showing a Black person in a green coat interviewing an elderly white person holding up a flag, with more protesters in the background displaying Palestinian flags. The interviewer asks, "Why is it important for you to be here today?" The protester responds, "Well, uh, I'm Jewish, I'm Israeli, my parents were the only survivors of their families from the Holocaust. They both survived Auschwitz. I'm not going to support genocide am I? "I'm here with the Palestinians, and we are here with Palestine, because we don't believe that what the British government is doing is correct. The British government is supporting this genocide! It's arming Israel, it's financing Israel. "BBC and the other media here is supporting genocide. This is illegal. This is immoral. We don't agree with it, we will never agree with it, and as Jews -- and myself as Israeli -- I am totally against it, and we will continue to be against it. There are now more than 60 such events in the whole of Britain, uh, people don't want to support this. They are against this government on so many other issues, but especially on this one." Another elderly white protester next to the first joins in, leaning forward to add: "And, also, this didn't start on October the 7th. In 1948, Palestinian villages, hundreds of them --" Another elderly protester interjects specifically, "500 of them". The second protestor nods and continues, "were demolished, thousands of Palestinians, innocent men, women, and children were slaughtered, and seven-hundred and fifty thousand Palestinian refugees were created. That's when it started, and it hasn't stopped since!" End ID.]

Blocking out her name and picture to protect her from harassment, but this is a Palestinian journalist reporting out of Gaza who I've personally had contact with through Twitter.

Money and aid is not getting through. Crowdfunding is not helpful. Ordering things is not helpful. Buying keffiyehs that say the money goes to Gaza is not helpful.

Gaza is a concentration camp - nothing is getting in or out that Israel does not approve of and right now Israel wants people dead or dying.

Most of social media, and tumblr is no exception, skews toward "taking action" being things that put you at zero risk and only ask for money or bits of time, or sometimes just doing nothing and calling it a boycott. "Call your rep!" "Buy this thing!" "Share this link!"

The reality is that you get out what you put in and if it was easy and low risk and comfortable for you to do it, then that is the level of impact it is having - low, comfortable to ignore, and flimsy.

Palestine, Gaza and increasingly the West Bank, NEEDS real help and the reality is we do not have the power as individuals to give it.

We DO have the power to band together and influence things collectively and the best way to do that is to loudly unequivocally express our anger and clarity of purpose.

So that does mean calling reps and being polite and firm and brief and giving your real address because otherwise they can't confirm you're a constituent and they'll ignore you. "Hello, my name is ______ and I am calling as a constituent to demand representative/senator _______ support aid to Gaza and to call for an end to support for all support to Israel."

It is important that your support for Gaza include opposition to Israel - there is no supporting Gaza while supporting Israel, it genuinely is one or the other.

Tear down pro-Israel posters. Tear down those fake kidnapped propaganda posters. Show up to rallies and marches where you can and if you can't, find out who's organizing them and get in touch to offer your support and help. Talk to family and friends. LEARN! Read up on these things and teach yourself history so you can better advocate and push back on propaganda.

Be willing to have people not like you. Losing friends over this is, and I don't mean to be cold here, nothing. It doesn't matter. Fuck em. If advocating against genocide costs you friendships and gets people calling you antisemitic, fuck em, good riddance. Privately process the loss of those relationships if they really matter to you, but publicly don't give it air because this is not a time to be focused on the feelings of people who cannot bring themselves to oppose ethnic cleansing.

The culture is shifting, support for Palestine is growing and it NEEDS to continue and we have the power to make sure it does.

boycotting is literally easy don't be a coward

  1. you do not have to throw away things you already own for a boycott. i have a HP laptop and puma sneakers. i already fucking paid for them. i will not be buying HP or puma products in the future. it's that easy.
  2. if you want to extend the boycott to mcdonalds, starbucks and dominos: you can learn to cook. you do not need to order hellofresh to read a recipe off a website or in a cookbook. i'm not a very good cook but i'm willing to learn if it means applying pressure to companies supporting a genocide.

you should be doing everything in your power to help the people of palestine. this should be radicalizing you. it should be filling you with enough rage to fucking do something about it.

"boycott fatigue" shut the actual fuck up.

sidenote related to some tags i've seen so far:

if your life is made uncomfortable by boycotting a company, suck it up. you can stand to be uncomfortable if it means making a statement to support victims of a genocide. you should be uncomfortable.

Reading a Terry Pratchett book is literally just: Here's a funny little joke Here's something that you can tell is a joke but don't get and will only figure out five years later Here's a surprisingly cool fantasy concept Here's a unique and well written simile Here's a lil guy Here's something that has aged depressingly well into the modern day Here's something that has aged remarkably queer into the modern day Here's a character that you can barely understand what he's saying Here is the most terrifying and deeply disturbing concept you have ever heard, casually mentioned Here is the dumbest fucking pun you've ever heard but in the best way Here is a quote so profound that it makes you view morality and the world in a different way Here is a plot twist that you can't tell if it's genius or stupid Congratulations! You've finished the book! It has fundamentally changed you as a person and you will never be the same!

Seeing drag queens in real life gives me the exact same feeling as how the hobbits describe elves in the lord of the rings

I don't know how to describe to you if you've never been to a drag show but like seeing recordings of them is one thing & seeing them in real life is Another. Like pov you're looking up at the tallest most enchantingly beautiful ambiguously sexed person you've ever seen. She's like covered in glitter and you can smell her perfume. And you're in a room with like several of them & you begin to understand how Frodo felt in that castle
