“That constant smile on your face,” Landon deadpanned, giving Brand a look of amusement. He closed the box, “Got a minute, Grandpa Frost? Let’s take a walk,” he motioned towards the forest path.

“That must be it.” Brand was similarly deadpan, before taking a bite of the doughnut. His eyebrows rose slightly at the idea. “I suppose.” Landon had no reason to lure him away and attack him so he saw no harm in it. He moved towards the forest path, fairly certain he could react quickly enough if Landon did decide to pull something, however unlikely it seemed. “What’s on your mind?” Landon clearly wanted to talk and Brand was always rather straight to the point.

Violet couldn’t help but agree with her brothers sentiments about their family, while Carmilla was family, she still wasn’t a nice person when it came down to it. “Simply because she is to be married to his brother and I will not stand for it. You can try to talk.to him, Brand. But do you think Landon will respond to a civil conversation?”

Brand shrugged. “Perhaps. It’s not in our best interest to start up that age old feud again, however, since it’s mostly been put to rest.” Above all, Brand was protective of his family and if helping some random vampire would endanger them, he was not for it. Still, he hoped Landon may at least listen to him, out of respect. “I’ll try to intervene, however, before things escalate too much.” If only because it would make Violet happy or at least ease her worry.

He was sick and tired of Brand Frost’s flat quips when he made it so clear he was, in fact, interested in bothering him far too often. “It’s just bad luck then,” Henryk said, resuming his moving towards and past the original vampire. “You don’t mind if I just keep walking then, do you?” Henryk had nothing to say to Brand — that wouldn’t get him in trouble, that is — and if the vampire had nothing to say to him either, he’d rather move on with his life.
Image
“It must be.” Henryk was clearly eager to be rid of him. “I do, in fact.” He fell into step with the other vampire. “Since we happened to run into each other, I might as well check in. I assume you’ve been behaving yourself since our last talk?” He hadn’t outwardly heard otherwise, but he watched Henryk to see if he’d betray himself. He may have just gotten sneakier about it, after all.

Clary nodded as he spoke, perking slightly when he’d mentioned the puzzles.  “Oh yeah, those were interesting,” she said with a weak laugh.  “I don’t know Morse code so I couldn’t even solve the first one.  I’m glad there were people out there who were able to solve the Trickster’s riddles and everything because it would have been awful if the affects had been permanent.”  She couldn’t even imagine trying to live life like that, especially if everyone in town had met the same fate.  “Thanks.  I’m glad you were unharmed also, though I guess being an original you’re more durable than us peasants.”
Image
“I agree. I knew Morse code but I was less successful at the maze that came after.” Brand had never been much for puzzles. “It’s somewhat surprising the town banded together as they did, that everyone solved the riddles and seemed so helpful. I’m glad of it, but it’s a little shocking, considering.” He didn’t know all the details but he’d heard enough about it to basically understand how the problem had been solved. “It gives us a slight advantage, yes.” Brand deadpanned, though he was clearly amused.

“Just Landon Hastings mostly. I doubt Helena will do something, but I don’t trust Landon at all. They don’t agree with mine and Seth’s relationship, and now that we’re engaged I guess it makes them more angry about it. They still believe in the whole vampire’s and werewolves can’t be together thing. Landon has said it in his own words enough times that he will end me or he’ll show me my heart. I don’t  take any of it lightly, and I figured you guys might have some sort of power to be able to keep him in check.”

He listened as she explained. She wasn’t one of his fledglings or a family member but he generally cared for the well being of vampires over other creatures so he supposed he could help. Violet seemed determined to so he would do it if only to please her. “You shouldn’t take his threats lightly. I can certainly have a conversation with him, but I have no power over him, so to speak.” Mostly, they steered clear of each other, but Brand supposed that would have to end since they both now lived in such a small town.

She nodded minutely, her head ducked low as she poured the coffee. The pot was too heavy and it slipped from her grasp, over filling the mug and pooling over the table, dripping down the side and inching towards his papers. “I’m so, so sorry,” Pearl gasped, certain that’d she lose her job for this, yanking napkins off the next table and patting them down over the mess. “Did any spill on you?”

He watched her pour the coffee and saw the mishap. He snatched up his letter before it could get ruined and shifted his chair back slightly so none of the coffee would drip on him. “It’s all right. And no, it didn’t.” Folding the letter, he tucked it and the pen into his inside jacket pocket and grabbed up some more napkins to help sop up the mess. “Are you new at this?” It took more than spilled coffee to break Brand’s calm.

With shaking hands she pulled out the black notebook with the letters from her bag and looked down at them. “This notebook filled with letters-” love letters, if she told the god forsaken truth about her feelings for Damien-”And I don’t want no one to find them and read this out loud it anyone. I-I know, it’s silly to hide something but I just don’t want…want no one to know my business that’s all.”
Image
Brand looked at the notebook she retrieved, which was clearly important to her. Letters? That either meant they were treasured letters she’d received or letters she’d never sent. “Why not hide them yourself? The more people who know about a hiding place, the less it’s likely to stay hidden very long.”

Brand was sturdier than Elias and for that he appreciated his maker. The differences between taking a woman and man was new to Damien but decided that both genders had its appeal to him. The men were stronger therefore a much harsher exchange could be done, the women were soft and every bit of them made the vampire want to sink his teeth in their flesh. In the following weeks, the fledgling would entice his sire in laying with one, two, a group of women between them and he offered the same invitation to the faerie.
But he would never tell Brand of Elias, not until much later on when he finally got his daylight ring.
Hours passed and strong limbs moved in a familiar rhythm and by the time they finished and laid in bed, Damien scoffed lightly as the original expressed his gratitude. “Indeed,” the fledgling nodded as he closed his eyes momentarily, quite pleased that he had conquered something so powerful. “Who knew?”
A soft laugh escaped the fledgling’s lips before inquiring what the holy men would think of them should they be caught in such a damnable situation. “I suppose I could slaughter them all,” he offered, smiling wickedly at the thought of it. His mind still lingered on the taste of faerie blood and how it aided him in walking in daylight.
There was no need to hide in the shadows anymore, not with Elias around.

Brand had had mostly fumbling experiences with women as a human, a few tumbles with some local girls and little else. After he’d been transformed and had slaked his initial bloodlust, he’d experienced everything he could with his new senses, including both women and men. Those had been quick and brutal and the memories were practically blurred, now, it had been so long. This experience with Damien was much fresher, much more exciting. Still, something in Brand was different than it had been before. While he wasn’t a youth fumbling to figure everything out, nor a newborn vampire drunk on his heightened senses, it was the fact that Damien was talented musically that had allowed this to happen. His fledgling had always been aesthetically pleasing but Brand hadn’t though about his appearance much further than that, hadn’t had any desire stoked in him until Damien made his advances and after their music lessons.

“I didn’t.” Brand admitted, honestly. He probably could’ve happily lived out many more centuries in the monasteries without such carnal pleasures and would do so again, once Damien eventually left him, but he was glad he’d rediscovered them, in any case. His amusement slipped away to a more troubled expression when Damien brought up the monks and Brand immediately shook his head at the suggestion. “No. There’s no need for that.” He respected these monks, even liked some of them, and Damien didn’t need to rampage like that. Brand was trying to teach him some measure of control, after all. That did bring up the question, however, if this was going to happen again or if doing it once had been enough. Brand had complicated feelings about the possibility of a repeat performance.

“Is this going to happen during all your music lessons?” Brand mused, a bit wryly, though his expression was more fond than annoyed when he looked at the other vampire.

“I guess that’s a good point but it was still weird.”  Clary said thoughtfully.  It was hard to remember the days before electricity.  It was fine at the time but now she couldn’t imagine what it’d be like without it again.  Fuck going back to candle sticks.  “So you still worked when you were blind?  We ended up closing the cafe down since no one could really do anything.  No customers anyway.”  She explained adding a shrug, “yeah.  It wasn’t that bad.  I mostly just stayed home and waited it out.  I went out a couple of times but even going down to the corner market was an all day adventure.”
Image
“It was.” Naturally Brand had gotten used to modern amenities but more of his memories took place before electricity so it hadn’t been quite so much of an adjustment for him. Not that he’d ever lived in total darkness, of course. “Not really, no. I meant losing my hearing would’ve made talent scouting difficult, as you mentioned. I mostly focused on solving the puzzles we were given.” He’d long ago memorized Morse code so that one hadn’t been difficult. The maze, on the other hand, had proved much more of a problem. “I’m glad to hear you weren’t part of any unfortunate mishaps.”

Brand, please.” Landon gave a lopsided smile, holding out the box of donuts, “Take a pastry. Maybe it’ll lighten up your mood,” he joked. Landon had no problem with the eldest Frost, surprisingly. While if there was ever a time he had to take out Original vampires, he wouldn’t hesitate, but at least the Frost had no qualms with wolves.
Image
“What made you think my mood needs lightening?” He asked, semi innocently, even as he reached for a donut. An Old Fashioned, of course. If nothing else, the vampire had a strong sense of irony. Brand knew Landon had no love for vampires but so long as he stayed away from Brand’s fledglings and family, they could stay out of each other’s way.

“I-i’m sorry to bother you, I’ll just-” Mercy just stopped babbling for a moment before she shut her eyes and took a deep breath. “Can you hide something for me?’

Brand’s eyebrows rose slightly. “Perhaps. What is it and why?”

Of course Brand Frost of all people would be within hearing distance from him. Of course. Henryk threw him the most indifferent look he could fabricate given the circumstances, which fell somewhere between boredom and impatience. “Don’t you have things to do? A job to get to? Hobbies?” It was irritating how the vampire hounded him like his life was his.
Image
The look didn’t particularly phase Brand. Henryk’s animosity towards him was nearly palpable, anyway. “No. My sole purpose in life is to complicate yours.” The sarcastic quip was practically second nature to the Original. “This meeting is entirely coincidental, I assure you.” He’d been buying rosin for his violin bow and a few other things he needed for his instruments.

Pearl stood awkwardly by the table, the pot of coffee in her hand. She was determined to be a good hostess, but it seemed more and more like people at Ashbourne did not take well to being disturbed. “Coffee?” Pearl asked, weakly, gesturing at his nearly empty cup.
Image
Brand nodded, moving his mug closer to the edge of the table. “Yes, thank you. I didn’t at first realise you were the waitress.” It was about as close to an apology as she was going to get. Still, it wasn’t like he’d bite her head off.

“Likewise. It made for an interesting week I think. Good to see you’re doing well. I was wondering, has your sister Violet spoken to you yet about a problem that’s going on?”
Image
“Interesting is one word for it.” Brand nodded. “She mentioned you were being threatened by at least one Hastings. Care to elaborate?”

Violet nodded her head, taking up a seat beside her brother. “That’s the one, our ever so favourite sibling.” Violet said, very nearly rolling her eyes at the words she spoke.  “Landon Hastings, to Remy of all people. I’m going to try and talk to him, so we’ll see how that goes.” Violet had already made up her mind on that part, and she would still talk to him no matter how briefly the chance was.
Image
“Indeed.” Brand’s comment was dry. He wondered if Gwen was soon to show up as well and they’d have a family reunion. The eldest Original wasn’t at all sure how that would go. He frowned a little at the information. “Why is Landon threatening her? I can always talk to him. We have a mutual agreement to stay out of each other’s way, normally, but I’m sure we could have a civil conversation.”

“I see. Coffee, maybe? It seems a good way to start catching up.”

Anonymous asked:

Would you ever have a romantic relationship with a human if you fall in love?

“Yes, I’ve done so several times. The only way I generally take notice of a human outside of as a food source, however, is if they show some kind of musical talent. Love has been a result of that but then I generally offer to turn them. If they take me up on the offer, they’re no longer human. If they don’t, we stay together as long as it’s feasible.”
