i love david jenkins so much, he really said “the gays won’t care about the logic of time and space so long as we give them pirates who kiss” and he was absolutely right. at this point ed could have his full beard back at the beginning of season two with no time jump at all and i would just say thank you. lucius could survive being thrown overboard due to the buoyancy of his wooden finger and i’d be like yup, makes perfect sense, no notes. i am willfully forgetting everything i’ve ever known for this show. i am not just suspending my disbelief, i am loading it into a cannon and blasting it to the heavens.

favorite part of the smug 😏😏😏 face ed makes when stede calls him his boyfriend is u know he’s like “that’s right bitches i’m Stede Bonnet’s Boyfriend” but literally he is the only person in that room and maybe even in the entire world of ofmd who thinks that’s a flex

Ed shaking his head while Ned says "that's why he likes you, it's because of your bumbling amateur status" is what's gonna kill me actually because Stede doesn't even see it I'm just

I adore this moment and everything that follows.

Ed doesn’t judge Stede for killing Ned. Stede has just murdered someone—a thing that seems completely contrary to who he is, a thing that “good guys” don’t do. But, Ed never expresses disappointment in him for this. Just like he doesn’t get jealous of his pirate popularity in the next episode.

Instead, he’s concerned for him.

That means a lot in this relationship between two people traumatized by shame-based abuse. I think it goes beyond Ed thinking “who am I to cast stones?” as well.

I think Ed simply does not need an idealized “Stede Bonnet” — for this relationship to work. He loves Stede, full stop.

Which— by the way, I’m just saying— proves what Ned said to be absolute bullshit.

In the same way, Stede doesn’t judge Ed for The Kraken. He only ever expresses fear and care for Ed himself. (And the other people who got hurt by Ed.)

It really turns the performance-based-love narrative that they’ve both been taught on its head. And I love that. To me, it’s an important part of this love story.

It’s all about loving someone more than the concept of them… something that Stede’s father or Izzy and Calico Jack were never willing to do for Stede or Ed.

It’s about how love is not a transaction, it’s much more complex. Because people are complex. So love must grow/change with them, and they with each other, in order to love each other properly.

And, fortunately for us, that’s exactly what they want to do. They’re all in. <3

Dear ofmd,

I long for you. Every day without renewal news feels like an eternity. I know you don’t wanna hear from me, but I write these posts daily, hoping one will reach MAX executives. And I know we’re not through. I can feel it in my soul. A love like ours can’t disappear in an instant (Oct 26). We’re joined to one another. Un-queerbaited. We wrote our names on each other in permanent ink.
