doctor lecter is stone cold damn
As an explanation: Dr. Lecter is a forensic psychiatrist. That means he treats criminals as well as other patients. it is entirely possible considering what we know that Franklyn has been found guilty of being either a stalker or a cheese thief (repeat offender) and has been sent by court for therapy. In addition he probably has a thing for other criminals, at least as friends of him. We know a lot of therapists already tried to help him but each referred him till he finally ended up with “stone cold” Dr. Lecter. Franklyn still managed to fall for his psychiatrist. A deadly mistake. Here we have Dr. Lecter trying in vain to give Franklyn a better chance at survival.
I really think that Franklyn was a killing Hannibal didn’t want to do. I bet Hannibal still refers to that as Tobias’ fault.
Hannibal is against rudeness and we see Franklyn being rude many times, but that’s our perception.
I know that if someone follows me around and tries to know what I do and where I go my first reaction would be to threaten that person to death. You don’t play with my privacy.
But Hannibal is like…resigned to Franklyn. It’s like he is a child who doesn’t know what to do and doesn’t act on purpose. Hannibal is strangely condescending to him.
I think that the words said by Franklyn about friendship, in some way, touched Hannibal and that was a reason to spare his life. But then Tobias came…

I remember them saying Hannibal gave Franklyn a quick death so he didn’t have to suffer a long painful death under Tobias’ hands, in a sense it was an act of mercy from Hannibal. Franklyn was not rude he was just …not smart enough .

I think the people Hannibal condemns for rudeness are people who should know better, who are being willfully insensitive and vulgar. I don’t think he targets people who are just socially awkward and maybe a little annoying because they’re just lonely.
Besides eventually serving as the disposable side character with some note for being the first person we actually see Hannibal kill (we know of at least 3 more not counting ripper victims) but for a more realistic example of why someone seeks out therapy. Aside from trauma victims and those with genuine mental health disorders most patients stem more towards willingly seeking out help for mundane struggles

how do you think hannibal feels about will's scars? does he feel a possessive sort of pride regarding the ones he left on him or do you think he feels regret? is he jealous that others have marked will's body as well or is he proud of will for having survived so much? do you think he loves will's scars from dolarhyde because it brought them together? i love all of your hannibal thoughts!!
I don’t think Hannibal regrets anything he’s done to Will - he has no reason to; it’s gotten him exactly what he wanted in the end. And really the physical wounds were the least of it.
As for the rest of them, Jack shot him because of Hannibal’s machinations, so that scar belongs to Hannibal too. The ones from Dolarhyde are keepsakes from their first time. Really every scar Will’s gotten since he met Hannibal is because of Hannibal, one way or another.
So I’d imagine him rubbing a finger across Will’s knife scar from the stabbing in New Orleans, over and over, until Will asks him what his deal is, and Hannibal doesn’t answer, but he’s annoyed that one isn’t his too, and it’s just unfair that he didn’t meet Will earlier.
