@judgingeternity / judgingeternity.tumblr.com

This be my opinion blog where I reblog your opinions and judge you or the subject of them. I'll probably make constant mention of being gay or autistic and make more than a few jabs at what 'passes' for the social justice community on this site.

The Dadvocate called it the martyrdom of boy moms.

It's these videos where these mothers are speaking about how they are teaching their sons, usually under eight years old, some sort of basic life lesson anyone should know all for the sole purpose of making life easier for her son's future partner.

Payal Desai has nearly 40 videos on her tiktok/instagram that are like that. Her playlist is titled no dusty sons. Here is an example of a video she's posted:

She's not the only one. The Dadvocate reacted to another woman who made a tiktok where she said she was showing her son to look for things so her daughter doesn't have to use her brain space to know where everything is. And I'm sure there's tons more if you look for them

Now one of my issues is that she's blatantly exploiting her sons. Because of her no dusty sons videos, she has been on TV at least once, has had articles written about her and what she's doing, and has a lot of supportive comments like way to go mama, you're a queen/icon/legend, as a girl mom THANK YOU.

I despise it when parents use their kids like this. This woman is showing her kids' faces to countless strangers online. She has 289.9k followers and her account is public. It's bad enough to post about your child on a platform like facebook without caution, let alone what she's doing. And a lot of people are overlooking it because they think she's promoting a good message so it's 'fine.'

The other problem I have are these "lessons." A good majority of them are things she should be teaching them anyway, not directed at a future partner. She has another video where she's teaching her son to brush his teeth and tongue so his partner doesn't have to deal with a man who didn't learn the basics of dental hygiene. You don't teach them to have a good diet or to brush their teeth because it could be inconvenient for their future partner, you do it because it's good for their health. You do it because future adults need to know that sort of thing.

"I'm teaching my son a skill not because I care about his health, safety, or happiness, but for the sake of some nameless woman he may be with some day" makes you a bad mother, full stop. If you don't care about your son for his own sake, you don't deserve him. If this is just a bit for the Internet, it's still encouraging other women to treat their sons as deficient beings who only deserve to be helped for women's sake and you suck for promoting that awful attitude.

"I'm teaching my daughter car skills so she can be independent" vs

"I'm teaching my daughter car skills so she's not a burden on her future husband"

Can you imagine

Society actually doesn't care about boys' mental or physical health aside from a vague concern that they might shoot people if they go crazy.

I'm curious to know if she knows him or not because the especially not him sounds personal

I don't even know why she's bringing up the feeding part. This is skin-to-skin contact which has a lot of benefits for the baby and him

I don't even know what to say. It says a lot about a person if you look at this sweet picture and think it's creepy

I think she's referring to the fact that he clearly has muscles. She says "especially not him" after referring to mothers as "soft and nurturing" and I think she means that literally. The guy has muscles, ergo not soft, ergo "he shouldn't be holding the baby".

Still stupid logic either way.

Males tasting their own medicine. Oil on canvas, circa 21st century.

But fr tho, just look at the snot and tears. I hope they love being treated like women were treated for millenia.

“treated like women were treated for millenia.”

There are literally thousands of examples that women were not treated the way people who say this line think they were treated.

Plus revisiting old wounds on someone who did not directly cause said wounds makes you no better than the people who treated your ancestors like crap. Revenge is generally a bad idea, especially if you’re claiming “revenge” but actually bullying people.

Honestly, it makes them worse.

If I never did anything to you, and you visit pain upon me for something you've probably never experienced, than you're an asshole. I won't say women don't have problems, but if we're tracking vaguely fictitious shit from thousands of years ago and using that as a justification than you're in essence punishing someone for something they weren't even alive for.

They're not wrong. The game is about murder and looting antiquities. But it's pretend.

Because it's pretend you can also pretend it's hateful. That's what the mummy lich king on the fourth level guarding the central loot chamber is for, in fact. The mummy is pretend too, but it's about revenants of a long dead kingdom trying to stop you from killing and looting.

What gate am I supposed to be setting up?

The gate is to keep opinions like the above then turning around and going "Ok, guess what. Because *I* don't like this thing, you are no longer allowed to do it either. My way is the ONLY way to enjoy this hobby from now on."

If everyone just enjoyed their hobbies as they pleased and left everyone else alone, that would be GREAT. But some people don't, they have to try to control everyone else and THAT is the gate you are supposed to be setting up.

So the solution to preventing people from saying "because I don't like this thing, you are no longer allowed to do it either. My way to play is the ONLY way to enjoy this hobby from now on" is to say "because I don't like this thing *you're* no longer allowed to do it either. My way to play is the ONLY way to enjoy this hobby from now on"?

A gatekeeping battle, where it's Us versus Them, and only one playstyle of TTRPGs can be left standing... We have to destroy them, before they destroy us...

*playing my god damn murder-hobo graverobber game* there better not be any god damn murder-hobo graverobbers in here

It's not gatekeeping to ask someone why they're engaging with something when they clearly hate everything about it.

You know, and this is kinda an important point...

the 'Mummy Lich on the Fourth Level' (bleh) is not there to keep you from stealing 'historical artifacts'. It's keeping the treasure that it's hoarding away from the world.

Because if you're building a massive fuck-off dungeon and stocking it with monsters to kill anyone who comes inside, you're not doing so to make sure that your people's history is never forgotten. That's not how that kind of shit works. Hell, considering the amount of death going into just making a few major undead in the first place, you're probably also killing people from your own fucking culture to start your fuck-you dungeon of all the shit you don't want living people to ever see again. Let alone the economic sink that is 'building a giant fuck-you complex to murder people with'.

So yeah. @fruityyamenrunner there is no argument where a position like the mocked tweet is an actually valid one, because 'the history and wealth of lost civilizations should remain lost for the rest of time, eternally forgotten and leaving the rest of the world poorer for it's absence' is the ultimate selfish position, that some things belong only and forever to the dead.

Don't forget the Dragons part of Dungeons and Dragons. You know where Dragons get THEIR loot? They steal it or extort it and they rarely open museums to show it off (depends on your DM and I think a young, naive Brass Dragon would love to try since they specifically prefer to hoard artwork, again, usually GIVEN to them), they rarely create it. If anyone is stealing cultural items, it's the ancient Red Dragon at the top of Fuck You, the Doom Volcano.

Then, let's not also forget 5e players favorite crying point, Orcs. Their 'culture' is to raid and rape, the treasure they have is also stolen, often violently, from Humans and other such races, so I'll be taking that back now.

Are you telling me dragons don't set up fairtrade, worker-owned co-operative gold-mines and goldsmiths?

>Start up campaign.

>Player asks "Is gay marriage allowed in this kingdom?"

>I answer, "No, marriage is mostly for alliance, children, and the dowry. But we'll say homosexuality is tolera-"

>Player's character immediately sets off on a quest to overthrow the king, usurp the throne (despite lack of claim) and instate gay marriage..

>Rest of party gets dragged along, because they think playing rebels might be more fun than killing liches.

>I'm a good sport, despite thinking this is the most retarded premise for a campaign ever.

>Party can't drum up enough support for pro-gay marriage rebels, so they try to find support for democracy.

>Decide to throw them a bone and let them start a war for democracy.

>Spend the whole campaign fighting battles, intrigue, actually not a bad campaign.

>Player eventually gets name president and makes her first act to legalize gay marriage.

>As she's signing the law, the clouds gather and a the entire town is massacre by an army of undead soldiers.

>"What the fuck, DMI"

>"I told you full well that you had to kill that lich before he completes the ritual and ushers in an age of eternal darkness. Apparently, you thought gay marriage was more important than not getting killed by an army of zombies and skeletons."

>GOOD END, in my book _______________

People on here got big mad about this one.

Truthfully? I agree with the DM.

Perhaps a session zero would have been nice, but you don't show up to a DM's board where they have a pre-existing campaign idea and then just say, "I'm not about that." It's like bruh, if you weren't about that you should have said something beforehand. Just because you have free will to do as you please in game doesn't mean the DM is obliged to cater to your every BS decision.

Plus, as he said, he established the threat. That threat didn't vanish just because you wanted a statesmanship campaign.

I also stand by my mentality that they approached this shit stupidly. They could have managed both, but they made a whole thing about gay rights in a pseudo middle ages era where the average person is concerned with invading outsiders, the surety of this years harvest, and the plague. If they had played up the inefficiencies of the current establishment to raise a populist military to fight the Lich they could have spearheaded a new more responsible form of government not contingent on the indolent inbreds of a noble dynasty.

there's been a lot of obnoxious pop history trends in the last few years but the bizarre total sanitization of vikings/pirates has to be one of the worst. like sorry to the queer neopagan anarchy symbol in bio twitter user community but like. are you aware both vikings and pirates enthusiastically traded slaves

and to be clear i'm not calling people out for liking the aesthetic or being into historical fiction or whatever i'm specifically talking about the genre of post that's like "it's crazy how most people think vikings were violent raiders when they were actually antiracist feminist sheep herders living in free love communes and operating dog shelters"

Avatar
max1461

I think this comes from an inability people have to, like, be moderate on things.

The initial failure to be moderate comes the traditional received view, e.g. "the Vikings were all horrible barbarians who did nothing but raid and pillage and be evil". Then someone comes along and, rightly, tries to question this view. They say "hey, the Vikings were just people like you and me. Maybe they even did some things that are worth admiring, you know. Maybe we've been treating them unfairly." And this catches on, especially as the original power dynamics that motivated the received view start to fade (slander of Vikings has a lot less motivation when the Catholic church stops being so politically relevant). And people are often inclined to use these other, traditionally maligned societies as foils to critique their own society. And so it becomes widely accepted among the sort of people who consider themselves smart and thoughtful that the Vikings really weren't as bad as they've been made out to be; they've been unfairly maligned. They were just people, like you and me.

Except here comes the second failure to be moderate, when the view slowly morphs into "the Vikings were right about everything, Viking society was so much better than modern society" etc. And that's where you get these twitter leftists, who are somewhere down the second-failure-to-be-moderate telephone line.

Anyway, I'm responding to this post, and respond to many like it, in an attempt to preempt what I have often seen as an inchoate third failure to be moderate, a return to the received narrative that the Vikings just totally sucked, man. No, no! I'm not accusing OP of this specifically (I don't think they're guilty of it), but it is... in the air, around these parts.

Moderation! Moderation! Nuance! Be careful lest you become what you sought to destroy!

Reading Tumblr today I get the feeling that a lot of these people praising Hamas' horrific attack on Israeli civilians aren't really pro-Palestine so much as they're just looking for another reason to justify their hatred of Jews. You can believe that the Israeli government has committed unforgivable atrocities against innocent Palestinians without wishing rape and murder on innocent Israeli civilians in turn.

Also, speaking as a white American? We have absolutely ZERO room to talk when it comes to corrupt governments, genocide, ethnic cleansings, land theft, war crimes and basically every other kind of human rights violation there is. If you're a white American who thinks Israeli civilians deserve to die for the actions of their government, then you should have no objection to being murdered for the sins of your own government.

also even setting aside Everything Else, it says a lot about how some people view rape not as something that is unquestionably morally wrong, but something that is wrong if done to the wrong person or for the wrong reasons. seeing people, who just days ago would have reblogged a post condemning sexual violence for the obvious reason of it being fucking wrong, treat rape as a sort of Righteous Punishment For Evil makes my fucking skin crawl.

lmao this reblog lost me 5 followers in the span of an hour. if you think rape is ever acceptable, please fucking unfollow me.

Unfortunately there's simply an undercurrent in a lot of political factions that has the mentality of, "no bad tactics, just bad targets."

Why The Last Jedi doesn't work as subversion is that it continuously requires the characters to act like they KNOW they're characters in Star Wars and not LIVING the Star Wars.

I'll give you an example. Rey. In TFA, her parents are simply missing and she's waiting for them to come back. In TLJ, she suddenly thinks they're an important secret for Kylo to reveal to her because she's pathologically suppressed the truth that they're drunks who sold her for alcohol money (or, you know, blue milk money, whatever).

But why would she ever think that she had an important family or heritage unless she knew she was the protagonist of a space epic and having an important family or heritage is something that happens to those?

Or DJ. The Benecio del Toro character is supposed to be a subversion of the rogue with a heart of gold trope. But why would Finn and Bangs ever think he's a rogue with a heart of gold that's implicitly trustworthy? They find him in a prison cell and have no reason to think he has any loyalty to the Resistance--he even gives a speech about how he considers the First Order and the Resistance to be equally bad!

In ANH, both Luke and Obi-Wan treated Han like exactly what he was, a mercenary, who had to be cajoled into helping out until finally he showed his true colors by attacking the Death Star. They didn't know they were characters going through a story arc. The Sequel Trilogy characters act like they do, until Rian Johnson pranks them by twisting the story arc they had no reason to think they were participating in.

And the entire Luke storyline is a subversion of the entire idea of mentorship. Luke doesn't teach Rey anything. She doesn't need to be taught anything. It's unclear why she even thinks she does, given that she already beat down Kylo Ren with ease, but, again, character in a story. She thinks she needs a training montage, Rian says "she doesn't get a training montage!", and scene.

It's all very meta and post-modern and taken at face value, it doesn't make any sense once you ask obvious questions like "Why shouldn't Poe know that there is a plan to save the fleet?" Defenders of TLJ dismiss those obvious questions because they see them as unimportant next to the post-modern gamesmanship the movie is really concerned with, but Star Wars doesn't work like a Scream movie, where the characters are largely obsessed with horror movies and then, ironically, placed inside a horror movie.

That's a kind of cynicism that doesn't really work for Star Wars; you can't do a sincere narrative about the triumph of good over evil when the characters are mostly convinced there's no big difference between Good or Evil winning.

To go back to ANH, Obi-Wan is emphatic about how wonderful the Jedi were, how tragic it was that they were wiped out, how awful it is to live under the Empire, and how important it is to fight to restore the Republic. That's the baseline of sincerity that this kind of primordial mythmaking needs to work.

With TLJ, most every character on both sides are cynical, foolish, corrupt, power-tripping, shrill, pompous... most of all, incompetent. It seems less like an epic battle between the noble and the venal--more like two competing cliques of sitcom characters, only one of them is inexplicably Nazi-themed. You're left pretty much adrift, with no characters to sympathize with and no conflicts to become invested in, just visuals and 'themes'.

But children can't get invested in themes or subversion. Neither can most people. It's the province of the elitist to care about subtext over story--the sick doldrums of modern art--and Star Wars isn't for them. It's for the people.

Convinced that every “how to write smut scenes” guide is written by people who write the most fucking boring smut imaginable

Here’s my “how to write smut” guide. Know how real sex works, and then BREAK THE FUCK OUT OF THOSE RULES to fit your own kinks, fantasies, and tastes. Anal is painful as fuck without lube. Do it anyway. Consent is sexy. Write dub/noncon anyway. Real people can’t take 20 inch dicks. How about 25? Don’t manufacture your smut for mass appeal or hardcore realism. Just write what you like. Some people like realism, others prefer semi-realism, others still prefer the most fucked-up, unrealistic shit imaginable. And I’m tired of the realistic “consent is sexy :3″ writers acting like their smut is inherently above the ones who write the painful as pleasureful, the unrealistic as attainable, and the morally decrepit as desirable.

consent IS sexy in many irl contexts but saying CONSENT IS SEXY out loud in your story is the biggest boner killer of a kink shame ever and I won’t stop iterating on this point.

If you want to show how sexy consent is, SHOW it. like, you have the perfect opportunity right there to describe so much boundary affirming and respectful sex in the sex scene you are currently writing right now, without moralizing at your audience.

the ones who write the painful as pleasureful, the unrealistic as attainable, and the morally decrepit as desirable.

hats off, that was a pleasure to read.

Avatar
missbaphomet

It’s called show don’t tell. Show that your characters want to fuck, don’t tell us!!!

Yes exactly!!! I’ve seen the “well consent CAN be sexy” point brought up a lot in reblogs/tags so don’t take my angry rant as saying that it can’t be! Just that too many writers look at advice and take it to an utterly sexless and preachy degree as if they don’t trust the reader to know what consent looks like. And of course, admonishing non-con or dub-con fics as normalizing real rape when… when no.

Hell, I AGREE consent can be sexy! Most of my bookmarked fics and the like are consensual! I just also enjoy dubcon and noncon and seeing those kinks be treated as moral failings or inferior to the sexiness of consent or w/e is lame.

If you can’t write sex just do the “kiss, lie on the bed and face to black” trick for gods sake. Some of these people should resort to that instead of writing sterile smut.
