All Lexia could do was stare wide-eyed after the car that zoomed by. If she hadn’t been stopped, it would’ve been highly likely to hit her, especially if she wasn’t paying that much attention to what was happening around her.
Her eyes slowly turning back to Felix, she tried not to be too skeptical of him at first. But seeing the look on his face and how he perfectly described what would happen, it was a difficult thing to act. Maybe a few more minutes of her time wouldn’t hurt.
Hearing the person on the phone calling out to her again, she snapped out of her thoughts for a moment. “Yeah, let me call you back later.” Not taking her eyes off the clairvoyant as she then hung up the phone, she stuff her phone in her back pocket before crossing her arms.
Image
“…Alright. You have my attention. I take it you know what’s going on?”

“Flashes of it...”

A breath of relief leaves the boy as he slowly straightens up, running a hand gently through his hair. For the moment, the woman had become more susceptible to believing him... so he had to make his next words count.

“I don’t know everything. I’ve been focused on how to approach you... and I haven’t been able to turn my attention to the images within my mind.”

Biting his lip gently, the seer took a quick look over the woman. She had a stern demeanor, seemingly someone who preferred to stay rooted in the facts rather than speculate; a pure skeptic when it came to things such as this. Yet, somehow, even though it was his own evaluation... he didn’t believe it.

“What I do know is that you’re about to make some vital mistakes. You’re on your way to investigate... something. Something that... you’d been called to do, right? Sort of... like a police officer. Except... what you’re dealing with is more dangerous and more deadly than you’re equipped to handle.”

Image

“I’m pretty sure that what I’m about to ask of you is against some sort of policy of yours... but I... I have to go with you. If I go with you, I-I can help you through this! I know what paths you have to take! I know the way to win!”

“Well, it’s neither here nor there at this point. They didn’t exactly have no reason to fire me in any case. ” The investigator conceded, waving away the topic.
“But yes, surprisingly being able to cause forest fires efficiently isn’t a marketable skill. I’m a private investigator for the most part. I’d give you a card but I’m kinda new. What about you? I’d guess you’d be able to make a decent as a fortune teller, right?”

“... Well, I, uh...”

Felix scratches his head, a nervous chuckle escaping him. “It... makes okay money... when it comes down to it, people either want to know everything, or don’t want to know anything at all. I’m really lucky for my sister... she helps me out with a place to live and everything.”

Image

“But... having a side job as a barista isn’t really that impressive. I’m... honestly just a kid with powers way out of his scope. That doesn’t even scratch being able to talk to the dead...”

Erika grins once more. Of course, he couldn’t see her because his eyes were closed, but she was hoping what she was about to do next wasn’t enough to have him open them again.
Of course, this hope was silly and impossible. Anyone would open their eyes if this were done to them.
She doesn’t waste time, kneeling down and scooping Felix up in her arms. She adjusts him in her arms, watching the openings of the alleyway to see if her cue was coming. She made it so that other people wouldn’t see them, so really, the only thing that would be coming through was….
…that awful black mass of a creature that she was running from earlier.
Erika’s grin becomes a bit more challenging as she shifts Felix in her arms again. She whispers a small apology before Winding up and launching him into the air, hoping he’d stay up there long enough for her to deal with the being in front of her.
“Alright buddy, I’ve only got a few minutes.”
Image
“Lay down and die, wontcha?”

The jolt of being thrown through the air was almost enough to cause Felix to shoot his eyes open; but he knew he had to keep them closed. He had seen this coming; and he knew that the panic would begin to set in if he realized just how high up he was.

As he reached the apex of his height, a long, drawn out breath leaves the boy, his arms and legs calmly outstretched. For a few, brief moments, he is stopped from falling by unseen forces. The spirits that had always followed him, kept him safe...

Image

“Help her...” he whispers, and as a fleeting breeze of affirmation flies along his face, a smile grows as his descent begins.

Unseen souls then begin clinging onto the massive unknown entity, in an attempt to hold it down and prevent any sort of retaliation from Erika’s incoming brutality.

Avatar
“Great! You’re so sweet, trusting me like this.” Erika giggles, wondering if she should follow his gaze and perhaps exterminate whatever was behind them. But judging how he spoke…. Whatever he saw wasn’t going to hurt them. “I’ll make sure you don’t forget your books!”
She inhales deeply, her gaze now becoming more focused. “I need you to close your eyes. Just until I’m done.”
“Everything will happen quickly, alright?”

“Just until you’re done...?”

This wasn’t an odd request, in all honesty... but it was one he wasn’t quite expecting. Close his eyes, the source of his power being blocked off... while some of the spirits were bothering him about trust and the issues surrounding the fact that he had just met this woman...

His fascination with such supernatural things would win out in the end.

Image

“I understand.” he murmurs, taking a deep breath before Felix closes his eyes tightly, waiting for whatever was about to happen.

Pausing from her phone call when the stranger leapt in front of her, Lexia held her phone further away from her ear to hear what he had to say. He looked as though he had something important to tell her. Even when rushing off to meet with her boss for the first time in two years, she knew better than to ignore someone who potentially needed her help.
Only… that wasn’t what Felix said. If anything, it was rather perplexing to hear something like that. It threw her off completely at first, her thoughts struggling on whether or not to believe him. It wasn’t until she heard shouting in her ear from her phone that she snapped out of her thoughts.
Answering to the person on the phone, she just said, “Yeah, yeah, hang on a minute.”
Image
Her scowl returning, she spoke to Felix directly. “Look, whatever you’re selling, I really don’t have the time for it. I’m up to my eyeballs with bullshit good luck charms already – bad outcomes come with the job.” She moved to step aside from him so that she could continue on her way.

“W-Wait, no-”

Felix quickly took a step in front of the woman, biting his lip. It was obvious he didn’t intend on being rude, as the mere act of it was making him uncomfortable. He had to think of something, quick...

A flash of an image ran through his mind, and quickly, he spread his arms out to stop her, eyes never leaving the other woman’s own. “White four-door sedan, scraped paint on the driver side above the front tire, going highway speeds. About to run this red light behind me in three... two...”

And just as promised, the aforementioned car speeds through the intersection, causing a single lucky driver to honk their horn as they avoid collision. Felix’s eyes never leave the woman in front of him, and finally, he lets his arms down, a slight pout on his face.

Image

“I’m not selling charms. I’m not selling anything. I don’t want to get you in trouble with the angry person on the other end of that line... I just want your attention for a few moments. A few moments that could potentially save your life.”

“Ah. A seer then.” Cyr stated flatly. So that must’ve been the presence she was sensing. She studied Felix for a moment. He seemed withdrawn, but not Cyr’s ‘fuck humanity’ type of withdrawn. He also hadn’t brushed her off as a loon and his using her last name might as well be proof he wasn’t playing along to mess with her.
She decided this meant that he was okay in her book. For now.
Image
“You can call me Cyr, as you can probably tell from whatever you saw I’m not one for formalities. Or people, generally. As for my magic, well…”
The wizard searched her mind for something to say. Magic itself was a broad topic, but Cyr’s brand of magic in particular was a sore subject. “Imagine… ‘taking something something beautiful and bastardizing it’. That’s what I’ve been told I do, because I study attack magic. I didn’t get the memo that there was a right way to be a mage I guess.”

A gentle nod comes as a response to the woman’s flat comment. A seer he was, and a seer he would stay...

When he hears the way she spoke of her magic, however, Felix’s face scrunches up in confusion for a moment before loosening up.

Image

“... Mm. Whoever told you that seems rather... simple-minded, to say the least.” he replies, golden eyes drifting downward. “I see no reason attack magic can’t be just as beautiful as other magic. Granted, I am but a novice to anything like that...”

Pausing, the violet-haired man lets out a sigh, reaching up and sliding fingers through his hair as he shakes his head. “Frankly, I don’t know much at all outside the specifics of my own abilities. But, it’s certainly curious... what sort of profession do you take on? You mentioned something about being off the clock... I can’t imagine writing ‘attack mage’ on your resume impresses many employers.”

Avatar
Well. That didn’t sound depressing. She would agree she’s never had it easy, but expressing her feelings like that was a whole other deal. Still, he wasn’t moping about without trying to change something, and that left a better impression on her than anything. even if she intended to go through with that she’s about to do.
“Good to know my attitude does the talking for me and you can catch the hint.” A smile played at her lips, even if she couldn’t simply have played him off as a stranger in the streets.
Image
“I know exactly what I’m getting myself into. Thankfully, it’s going to hurt, but not kill me, you know?” Excluding the fact that she wasn’t going to live a long life, there was little that could kill her. Losers can’t be choosers, and she can’t help him there. “Let me guess. Even if I tell you I’ll be fine, it’s just a few bruises or stabs, you’re not gonna leave me alone. And just how do you know all this, hmm?”

“... The fact that you compared bruises and stabs while simultaneously brushing them off is telling me all I need to know.” Felix murmurs, golden eyes watching the girl in front of him for a long while; enough to let out a few breaths as he tried to determine exactly what to say.

“I don’t know what you plan to do... I didn’t stop and concentrate enough. But I do know that there’s a path through this without getting you hurt. And, apologies... but no, I won’t leave you alone.”

Image

“As for how I know all this... the simplest answer is that I’m a seer.”

A sigh leaves him as Felix glances downwards, shaking his head. This was bound to cause some backlash. “Whenever I meet another’s eyes... I can see into their immediate future. The longer I stare into them, the further I may go down their future pathways. I’ve learned to block it out whenever I’m holding a conversation, such as now... but when I was younger, it was difficult. Ah, but... you don’t care about that.”

Sighing once more, the violet-haired man crosses his arms. “My solution is that you let me come with you, so that I may guide you through whatever it is you’re about to do.”

“Wh–”
Erika turns quickly, spotting the newcomer and scowling almost immediately. Normally she would have some banter to cover up her tracks, but today was not he day to do that. This man is in danger and she needs to get him out of it–now.
“Oooooh man, you’ve made my job a little bit harder.” She laughs, trotting over to him and grabbing him by the hand. “Listen, listen, you can ask me all the questions you want later, okay? I’ll spill the beans to you, alright?”
Image
“For now, I’m literally begging you to trust me. You’re in danger and you shouldn’t have followed me in here.” Despite the gravity of her words, she kept her jovial expression. “If you don’t, this is going to get a whole lot messier than it needs to be. So please? Please trust me.”

“Trust you? That’s…”

His response was delayed, and he did his best to prevent himself from looking into her eyes. He didn’t need to, after all; as soon as his path had diverted, Felix had a sinking feeling in his gut.

Sighing, the violet haired boy let the woman’s hand go, placing his books to the side of the alleyway. “Don’t let me forget those are there, please.”

While he could have easily been talking to the odd girl, his eyes were focused on another spot of seemingly thin air, only lasting for a moment before they drifted back to the woman.

“The spirits are talking… warning me to run and never look back. Yet, your words… they feel wiser somehow. You know what you’re doing, don’t you?” Amber eyes drift down to the woman’s hand as he takes it once more.

Image

“I trust you, then. Please do not lead me astray, and I will help you to the utmost of my abilities.”

Avatar
“Yes, my eyes.” She had little reason to doubt her eyes were an interesting subject. They were pointed out frequently on the days she doesn’t decide to wear anything to cover them up, but it did little to anger or please her. They were what they were, after all. Even if a person with violet hair and vibrant eyes were to point the out.
Image
“…Heading back to my hotel.” That was the convenient answer; once the streets were quiet she was sure to actually accomplish what she set out to do ( which might involve some less than legal endeavors ). At his warning, her curiosity ( as well as wariness ) peeked, and she turned to face him, arms crossing in contemplation. “Decisions, huh? Well, a dainty girl like me can’t afford to get badly injured. Should I look both ways before crossing the street? Find a four leaf clover?”

“A four-leaf clover symbolizes luck… a concept of which I no longer have the luxury of believing in.”

Sighing, a hand raised to trail through the man’s violet hair as he shook his head, eyes drifting downward as he searched for the right approach; finding words was so hard for him, since he was so scared and anxious of the other’s reactions.

“Let me… put it this way. If you were to go to your hotel and stay there for the remainder of the night, you would be safe from any harm that may have befallen you otherwise. And yet, somehow, your attitude… it tells me that you won’t be doing that.”

Image

“I’ve looked into the eyes of people passing me by, and I’ve seen more dire futures than I could count. Don’t let me see another. If you’re intent on doing what you need to do… allow me to accompany you, and save you from your fate.”

Avatar
“Mm? Okay…guess I’ll take your word for it.”
Image
“Yeah, sorta. It was kind of…’necessary’ when I was younger but it’s gotten to be a pain. Why, you…“ Cyr looked around, not sure she should even be asking this. “Are you a mage too?”

“A mage…? No… not quite.”

As far as he knew, he wasn’t. Dabbling in magic and powers according to the elements… that was far beyond his own potential. It was remarkable that this woman so easily admitted to being one, in fact. Did she not think of scorn or riducule?

Well… perhaps he had already soothed her presence. Slowly, his eyes met hers, an action he’d been avoiding as best he could; for when they did make contact, flashes of the immediate future would run through his mind. Nothing extraordinary… but he did garner a name.

“Miss… Evans, right? I am… nothing more than a human with the penchant for precognition. I can tell what would happen later on if certain choices are made… it’s easy to determine which paths to walk on. Oh, but I’m being rude.”

Image

“My name is Felix Vance. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Can you… tell me more about your magic?”

“Your eyes...”

They were drastically different from Felix’s own orange-like amber... and most certainly not normal for a typical human. But... they were rather hypnotizing. He had almost forgotten the flashes that had ran through his mind... but not quite.

Blinking a few times to regain his composure, the violet-haired man cleared his throat and glanced away. “Ah... miss.”

Image

“Where are you headed? This is going to sound rather odd... but you need to make very specific decisions in the coming hours... otherwise, you, ah... may end up badly injured.”

Avatar

Sighing, the violet-haired woman looked over the computer, obviously bored as she logged the remainder of the books that were currently out. She’d been rather behind when it came to her work... her supernatural paranoia was starting to get to her. Seeing shadows in the corner of her eye... noticing that more and more books were getting checked out with paranormal subject matter...

God, it was bugging her to no end.

A slight huff left the woman, before another figure popped up in the corner of her eye, and she quickly shot her head to the side to find out what the hell they were... but it only turned out to be someone at her desk.

Image

“Oh god, I’m so sorry. How long have you been standing there?” Quickly, she zipped out of her chair, grabbing the scanner and glancing over the books.

“... I didn’t even know we had these.” Rayne muttered, slowly starting to scan them.
