Whether it’s helping you remember what you have to do or helping you structure your day, planner’s are the biggest lifesaver when it comes to school. So, here are some tips and tricks to organizing your planner so you can use it to it’s fullest extent.
1. Color coordinate. Use different colored pens for different things! For example, use one color for the homework you were assigned or have to do, another color for work things, and another color for recreational things! You can even assign a certain color to a certain class, if that makes things easier! That way you can just scan the pages of your planner for the color your looking for and it makes it easier to find things!
2. Copy over dates from the syllabus. If you’re a college student like me, or even a high school student, you’re most likely going to receive a syllabus. Don’t lose this! Make sure you copy over every due date onto the day it’s due in your planner to avoid forgetting about an assignment or test! Knowing the due dates gives you ample time to study, prep or get your work done.
3. Box in important dates. Box in tests, quizzes, final papers or finals in general, to remind yourself that they’re important and not to be forgotten.
4. Highlighting is your best friend! To differentiate between readings and assignments, highlight one or the other! I tend to highlight my readings. It makes it easier to just glance at your planner and know what things you can take around with you for free time (like a book) and which things you’re going to have to dedicate time at a desk to.
5. Don’t forget to include things other than assignments! It’s no fun to open your planner and just see assignments. Spice up your planner with dates with friends, season premieres, music release dates, birthdays and everything in-between!
