no one tells you how much of life takes practice. not just writing, painting, running, singing, etc, but practicing how to make friends. how to make the right ones. getting practiced at how to be a good friend, a good sibling, a good person. practice identifying when people haven’t earned that. learning to recognize your right to rage and, eventually, how to offer mercy. so much of life is muscle memory, and i’ve begun to realize there are so many more parts of ourselves to flex and stretch and strengthen than those we’re taught in anatomy lessons

why didn’t gandalf just carry the ring to mordor himself with these tongs

like i’m picturing him being really careful and looking at it and carrying it exactly like this while walking or riding through the woods and across rivers and up mountains and through valleys and he doesn’t drop it even once except at the very end where he tidily drops it into the volcano. frodo sam and the crew and even gollum wholly undisturbed. sauron can’t find him bc of the meditative aura surrounding him which is generated by his immense focus on not dropping it

World's most tense egg and spoon race

this somehow became the funniest thing on earth in my head and I had to draw it so

I open my tumblr app and read this post, and I let it wash over me like the gentle tide. I know that when I die, this post, like the sweetest of sea foams, will be there to take me lovingly into the depths.

[I.D.: Three images discussing the origins of gauze. The first image is captioned:

“The History of Gauze is Haunting Me

Fabric is culture, culture is passport, and home should not be bloody.”

Next image is a poem, “Because of Us” by Em Berry who is also known as @ skinhungry. The poem goes as follows:

“This morning I learned

the English word gauze
(finely woven medical cloth)
comes from the Arabic word غزة or Ghazza

because Gazans have been skilled weavers for centuries

I wondered then

how many of our wounds

have been dressed

because of them

and how many of theirs

have been left open

because of us”

The third and final image is a section of text that says: “A few weeks ago, I came across the knowledge that gauze - the word and the cloth itself - comes from Gaza. Gauze, that lightweight open-weave cotton fabric, breathable, forgiving, found in any well-stocked First Aid Kit and certainly any medical establishment - it's from Gaza. It was originally made of silk and used in clothing, and now it is made of silk, cotton, and other kinds of fabrics. But the origins lie in Gaza, a place now being utterly decimated, where the hospitals are bombed, where surgeons are having to perform on children, often their own, with no anesthesia, no medications, no sterilized environment and often no...gauze. To have given the world something synonymous with care, with healing, and to be deprived of it so utterly - is that not the saddest, most haunting thing?” End I.D.]

so obsessed with prequels. the dramatic irony. the pain, the tragedy, the excitement. you can't warn them. you wouldn't if you could. it has to play out like this: it already has
