Sun Wukong Headcanons

-Unlike most of the Chinese pantheon, SWK isn’t about that whole ‘always move forward, be productive life style.’ Out of all of them, he’s the best at knowing how to relax. Honestly, is there anything better than sitting on a tree branch, eating peaches, and looking at naughty scrolls?

-There isn’t a lot of friendship going on between him and his fellow deities. Ao Kuang outright despises him, and most of them are more or less neutral to his existence. 

-Of course,the ‘to-death’ rivalry between him an Erlang is quite well known. Sure, the constant shouting and battle wounds can be annoying, but honestly? Sun Wukong is thankful for him, even if he would never admit it. The Monkey King severely lacks equal in China, to the point where fighting becomes more tedious than fun for him. But not with Erlang. Without the Illustrious Sage, Sun Wukong would have nothing to keep him on his toes, and nothing to strive for. While they haven’t quite arrived at a friendship just yet, their rivalry has forged a warrior’s bond that can never be broken.

-This brings us to another one of Sun Wukong’s fellow warriors, the Lotus Prince, Ne Zha. They have a bit of an odder, less straightforward relationship. For starters, Ne Zha challenge the monkey king to battle more often than even Erlang Shen. At least once a week! Every time, the boy swears it’ll be the last battle they’ll ever have, for it will be the demon’s doom… And every time, he ends up on his ass. 

-Swk has come to look forward to, and even enjoy these small ‘battles to the death.’ Would he consider the boy his equal? Far from it. But he has potential,and with each extra blow he lands or second he lasts, that potential grows. And the great sage eagerly awaits the day he can call him his equal.

-Nu Wa somewhat tolerates him, but would never admit it. She’s one of his favorite people to bother, just because of how flustered she gets. How their interactions usually go is with Sun Wukong coming into her house through an open window, her yelling at him to get out, and him sitting on the couch all day eating her peaches.

-He never fails to point out she could just close her windows. She never fails to smack him across the face.

-Will constantly defy any and all stereotypes that come with being a monkey, and anyone who tries to ‘test’ them out usually end up with a broken nose.

-”No, I do not want a banana. Hun Batz and I are not related. I’m pretty sure I am NOT your great, great, great grandfather…. And what’s this about flinging something?”
