An act of arachnidism

@eggsac / eggsac.tumblr.com

Have you ever seen a spider and screamed? Summoned a squad of brave knights to come rid the world of the eight-legged thing, only to find it had gone under your bed and is likely there now, planning your eventual demise, followed by world domination? I'm on the spider's side.

DC Twitter must have been INSANE when it got out that Superboy’s dads were Superman and Lex Luthor. Holy shit. The memes. The ship wars. The homophobes. The mpreg jokes. People would have lost their fucking minds. Lex Luthor releases a statement like “he’s a clone of me and Superman no birth was involved” and people are like KINDA GAY OF YOU TO HAVE A SON WITH ANOTHER MAN, LUTHOR. Lexcorp’s PR team locks themselves in a conference room and refuses to come out for love or money.

I mean, technically it’s true

Lux Luthor: I did not have sexual relations with Superman, I simply stole his DNA and created a child from it without his consent

Since last night when we heard about the government launching drones to Israel because of Israel attacking the Iranian embassy building, there have three kinds of people here.

Some of us are laughing and making jokes about the possibility of war, not because we think it's funny, but because it's our coping mechanism. We've been going through hard times for years now.

Some of us are just... Empty of any emotion. We just don't care. Bad things happen a lot here, so what's one more bad thing?

And the rest of us... We're scared. I'm one of those people.

Remember the Mahsa Amini protests? Those protests weren't small or unimportant. Most of us Iranians hate our government. The government has been killing us and ruining this country for years now.

We're too worried about shortage of money and food and a home to live in to really care about anything else. We have bigger problems.

I'm not sure if this will help at all but I'm scared and tired of not speaking. I just wanted to make sure at least some people in the world would know that Iranian people really don't want this war.

I want to wake up tomorrow to be mad that I'm forced to wear hijab to school and be worried about my physics exam. I want to come back home to study because I want to be one of the people who will one day help build free Iran. I want to make sure we'll be known for our old history and amazing culture and happy people.

So understand why a war between Iran and Israel should not start. We're already fighting for basic human rights and in a war against our government. Isn't that enough war for one country?

All my love and prayers for Iranians. I'm so sorry your government is doing this, on top of everything else.

I actually want to break with the Jumblr consensus on the casualty count coming from the Gaza Health Ministry. I know it’s incredibly tempting to dismiss everything coming out of Gaza as Hamas propaganda, but that's, well. Lying.

Death tolls provided by the GHM are created by medical personnel, not politicians. Their statistics are generally considered reliable by the United Nations, the United States, international investigative journalists, and even by Israeli intelligence. If the numbers are being intentionally skewed, they’re not being skewed beyond the realm of accurate probability.

Fighting the numbers isn’t honest or just. 30,000 people have died in Gaza. I wouldn't try to deny 30,000 dead any more than I would try to deny 6,000,000 dead in the Holocaust or deny 1,200 dead on October 7th. Take heed that you do not become the enemy you hate.

There are reasonable critiques to have with the GHM reporting. The numbers are presented with virtually zero context. They don’t distinguish between military and civilian casualties. They don’t distinguish between casualties due to IDF action and deaths due to friendly fire. They don’t make judgment calls or determinations of who caused the deaths or how they happened. They just count bodies. They’ve counted 30,000 bodies. Don't try to erase their deaths.

Toothpaste companies must really hate people who are allergic to mint toothpaste, which a lot of people are! Apparently it's NOT supposed to burn like minty hellfire? (I'm fine with mint candy, it's only mint toothpaste that hurts)

I've been using Tom's fennel for years, but am now trying to find one with fluoride in it, and finding a toothpaste that is no mint and yes fluoride should not be such a huge and infuriating quest. still got some more grocery stores to search, but not even the children's toothpaste in the nearest one had any that were suitable.

Beata Maria, you know I'm a hygienic man of my flossing I am justly proud.

Beata Maria, my teeth are so much cleaner than the common, vulgar, weak, licentious crowd.

Then tell me, Maria, why it's never good enough why the pits of rot still mar my teeth.

I must switch to fluoride, but all the options I can find are full of minty pain beyond belief!

I mean, I get that modern-day new age "cultural appropriation is fine actually" occultist types are trying to rebrand the infanticide demon as some sort of feminist icon, but just to be clear, Lilith is taken from Jewish folklore and her role there has always been "the reason children die", long before she was coqnflated with Adam's entirely hypothetical first wife by anonymous essayist Ben Sirach - and even there, it was still as an origin story for the infanticide demon

The occultist reinterpretation of Lilith is also taken pretty much wholesale from post-Enlightenment pop Christianity and is therefore steeped in antisemitic tropes. Aside from the cultural appropriation itself, there's also the accusation - that I've seen Lilith-worshippers make repeatedly - that Jewish people deliberately rewrote and distorted their own holy texts to erase Lilith, and the attempt to cast Judaism as some sort of ur-patriarchy directly responsible for all sexism today
