today was a weird day. with her face now officially revealed on sphere’s social media she felt the shift in power balance that she had been dreading. she was an idol now. trainees, teammates and people she had met technically had to call her sunbaenim now despite training aeons longer than her. it made her beyond nervous and uncomfortable.
perhaps it was for that reason she was too distracted and scatterbrained for her to see anything suspicious in changkyun’s invitation. her favourite fairy support wanting to chill with her on her birthday was great but she should have known there would be something mischievous the male was plotting.
it was only due to her fast reactions that the cake didn’t flat out land in her face but only partly, hands instead also completely covered in cake the moment he leaped for his attack. eyes wide and lips slowly curling into a smile, she stares back at him in shock, looking from her hands to her clothes and back to him. “oh…. youuuuuuuu-”
there were very little things that would be able to make changkyun laugh like he was right now. and in practicality, yuzu’s face and reaction definitely was able to make him laugh like a maniac. it was actually priceless in so so many ways “hey, happy birthday!” he says, grinning widely. he is still holding what is left of the cake in his hands. thank god there weren’t any coaches around, they’d probably think he was bullying poor yuzu.
the dancer has in fact planned this way better than his closer friend thought, so when he took a step back, enough to reach one of the chairs that was close by, he pulled the towel off it. ”don’t be grumpy now. if not me, who would have surprised you like this. hmm?” changkyun asks, grin not leaving his lips for a second as he hands yuzu the towel so she can at least clean the cake a little bit.

it was only a matter of time before yuzu got to her debut and well, changkyun was excited to say the least. there were very few people he was ready to kill for and yuzu just happened to fall under in that category. it did take years of work to get to here, however the dancer was more than sure it was worth it at the end of the day.
so what better way to celebrate her debut announcement and birthday than a good old cake to the face. it wasn’t everyday changkyun got to do shit like this, and it wasn’t everyday he was willing to let people see the more cheerful, laidback side of his. yuzu just deserved this in every way, shape and form the idol could think of.
so he plotted everything, got a cake, got yuzu to go to the specific training room he usually danced and chilled in. he was just waiting for the door to open wide for his attack to go through. simple as cake, pun definitely intended.

juyeon felt pretty far removed from everything happening at sphere. all of their evaluation were separate from the usual seocho evaluations, so there was no interacting with anyone outside of the project group. juyeon only really got to say hello to people when she was walking around the building to get from a to b, she only really ate lunch with the heartz girls and when she wasn’t practicing with the other girls, she was busy practicing her own stuff … by herself.
she’s on her way back from lunch to one of the empty studios to start practice for her evaluation. earbuds in, juyeon’s more or less in her own world at the moment. and naturally when she’s not watching where she’s going, that calls for a collision. she runs into yet another someone, and in what feels like the same place she ran into someone a couple of months back. juyeon stumbles a little, hand automatically grabbing her earbud and yanking it out of her ear, ready to start the apologies. she feels a little less bad once her vision steadies and she see’s who it is.
“oh! sunbae, long time no see!” she chimes with a small bow and wave. it would of been a lot, lot more awkward if it had of been one of the other convex members. juyeon was fairly cool with changkyun, the two had gotten to know eachother through their love of dancing. it was easy to say that the two were comfortable with eachother ( but juyeon still uses formalities because it would be weird to not ). “where have i been hiding?” she repeats, raising a brow. she shrugs, tugging her other earbud out of her ear, seven o’clock’s teenager still playing only now in her pocket. “i’ve just been at practice, y’know … as we trainees do. and what about you, where have you been hiding?”
as soon as he got called sunbae, changkyun made sure to look around before focusing on juyeon. “i will start scolding you if you call me sunbae when no one is around.” he says, obviously teasing. he never was a fan of the whole seniority thing when it came to idols. it was something that made him feel oddly uncomfortable.
there is a grin that pulls on his lips as she asks the same question back, brows slightly raised. “yeah, i think everyone has heard about sphere’s big girl group project. i’m cheering for you the most.” he says, as casual as always, shoving his hands in the pockets of his sweat pants. “i’ve been hiding in the practice rooms, just dancing.” he pauses for a second, unsure if he should say it or not. however, soon enough he smiles at juyeon.
“we should dance together again some time, yeah?“ changkyun suggests. even though they were both busy, he liked the girls style, a lot. it was always a pleasure to dance with her. plus, dancing with other people who aren’t convex will forever be a breath of fresh air. it was something changkyun hoped he would be able to do a lot in the future.

“fuck, sorry-“ is pretty much the only think changkyun can muster as he actually runs into someone as he turns around the corner, and even though it was him that almost flew back from the impact, he still feels bad. however, once he finally focuses on the figure it makes him blink, it doesn’t take long before he puts the face to a name.
“well well, where have you been hiding?“ the idols says, or more correctly, blurts out before he can stop his mouth. it’s not a wrong statement really, at least in changkyun’s eyes, but you never know how someone would react to. however, there is a bright smile on his lips as he waits for juyeon to answer him.

he’s long since learned that the man from sphere is almost the complete opposite of him. more down to earth, less likely to climb the trees and fly too close to the sun but in a way, that’s what hongjoong liked about him. changkyun kept to himself, didn’t really let on much but that made hongjoong all the more eager to twist his way into his heart. from what he’s been able to tell, it’s working.
a look of affront crosses his expression and hongjoong sticks out his lip in a pout. “ you just seemed to like peaches a lot, so i …” he trails off, staring at the fruit stones littered around them but leans a little closer into changkyun’s space, until his forehead is almost resting against his. “ but now that you said that, i’m bringing enough sour apples so that you get sick of them and beg me for peaches again.” he flops back into his spot in the grass, stretching out until he feels the touch of changkyun’s hand on his thigh - every sense in his body flares and he stiffens in response, trying to quell the quick swell of desire he feels. but he doesn’t want to scare changkyun off, so he coughs awkwardly and tries to smile amidst the feelings that roil around in his belly.
“ nope. just stole some fruit for you.” he quips as if he’s proud ( because let’s face it, he always is after a good haul. ) “ did you have fun playing with the cows?”
it wasn’t far from the truth when people said opposites attract each other. there was a faint balance that the two of them managed to get around to after a while, and it brought a warm fuzzy feeling in changkyun’s chest. even if it did take a bit more for him to finally speak freely around hongjoong, they were getting there. and yes, the fruits did help.
there is curious glint that flashes over changkyun’s expression when the other leans close, oh so close, it almost makes him lean forward. he holds himself still. “yeah? i’d like to see you try.” he says, loud laugh following as he leans back, smile wide on his lips. once hongjoong is on the ground, he can’t help but eye him, smile still as wide before looking back at the fields across from them. he hums a bit at the question he is given, head tipped to the side as he takes another bite from the peach. “it was nothing really out of the usual, but yeah.” he says with a nod of his head, smile finally softening.
“you should drop by and play with them sometime, i’m sure they’ll be happy to see a different face.“ changkyun says, giving hongjoong’s thigh a squeeze and finally retreating his hand.

i’ve started working now and its a 6pm-2am job, and i have yet to fix my sleeping schedule to that. i might be a tad more busy than usual, so replies would be coming rather slow from now on. i will still try and queue stuff up, but please keep in mind that i am gonna be a busy bean qwq

even though the last time they met was awkward and more than a little confusing, he still wants to bite the bullet and try to have a better conversation this time. maybe changkyun was just out of it that day, or maybe he was just overthinking everything. because even though changkyun hasn’t really outright said what his feelings were or if he was upset, it’s not like hongjoong has taken the first step either. maybe they’re just in limbo.
so although hongjoong still has some unresolved feelings about the last time they spoke, he keeps his voice level and chipper in the hopes that things will be better this time. that things won’t turn around and bite him, or confuse him, or make him wonder what exactly he did wrong in the first place. it’s stress. they’re just stressed.
that’s what he keeps telling himself.
it’s a breath of relief that escapes him when changkyun at least sounds better on the phone. his words don’t bite or feel backhanded like they did before, they don’t drive a knife in his gut and twist. so the relieved smile that crosses his lips is genuine as he lays back in his bed, keeping the phone tucked to his ear with the pillow that he’s resting on. “ yeah, but i like that about convex. you guys have a sound. like, a signature.” he explains with a smile upon hearing changkyun’s laugh. “ it makes you recognizable. i don’t think that’s a bad thing.”
sometimes, changkyun would forget not everyone is used to his dry humor, to his tone of voice, to his face even. he wasn’t aware that hongjoon would take his words that to heart, and to this day, it tugs at his heartstrings a bit. it was the last thing he wanted to do, upset the other. however, there wasn’t much he could do. he wasn’t the type to change just because people didn’t understand him.
the songs that convex had released so far, especially title tracks, really weren’t changkyun’s cup of tea. he liked more dark, mature concepts. but, with the new young additions to the group he highly doubts he will see any of that anytime soon “really? they don’t seem a tad too bubblegum?” he asks, brow raised as he rolls in his bed with a quiet grunt. his whole body ached, but it wasn’t anything new.
“i liked gorrilla a lot more a lot more than most of our songs.“ the dancer says, a short pause following “well, maybe not more than fast pace-“ changkyun corrects himself, a laugh leaving him. “what are you up to? it’s pretty late.“ he was a tad nervous, a tad too stressed him tone of voice or words would betray him yet again, but he pushes those thoughts away.

changkyun has a point, and woohyun’s smile falters to something more accepting, content. he nods his head with a hum. “yeah. i’m hoping not the former, but it’s always on the table.” he says softly. “we’ll see when it comes, and we’ll take it day by day.” we’ll get through it, he wants to say, but he swallows it back. “we should! that sounds like fun. a bonding experience~” he claps his hands together. “we should mention it to the others. set up a night this week. let’s make it a snack party too~” he wiggles his brows, smiling widely.
“we are a funny group, okay?“ changkyun laughs, smile pulling on his lips. with so many members, he was more than aware they were lowkey made for variety shows. he wondered if sphere planned on making them vlog someday. he hoped they did. it would be one hell of a show for the fans and public to see. especially if they have to show how they travel. someone always got lost, and changkyun was more than aware the group lost him 99% of the time.
“it’s fine, seungcheol gets more embarrassing if he’s put on the spot.“ the dancer says, obviously teasing his best friend even if he wasn’t here to hear it. “it’s fine hyung, you can poke fun at me as well.“ he assures the other with a lopsided grin. there was only so much they could say and do on the show. there were so many of them, he was sure a lot would get cut out. “win win indeed.“ changkyun agrees with a nod of his head.
he narrows his eyes ever so slightly. he never put much thought into what was going to happen, until it happened. so until changkyun landed his eyes on wins or negative netizens comments, he wouldn’t be bothered about the results “fingers crossed.” he says, lifting his hand and doing the gesture. “yeah? we definitely should, its always fun to watch variety shows. we should actually have a movie night, you know?” he grins widely “snack party too, definitely, you’re readin gmy mind hyung.”

buzzkill. he wishes he could say he’s surprised, but not only is this changkyun he’s talking to, but seungcheol he’s talking about. he pretends he is nonetheless, though, a gasp parting his lips and his eyes widening comically. hand on heart, he sniffles a little, as if wounded, before shaking it off with a quiet but hearty laugh. changkyun won’t entertain his dramatics for long, so there’s no point keeping it up unnecessarily. his further request piques his attention, however. it’s at least work related, but he can’t say he thinks it’s a good idea still. he hates to shoot his best friend down twice in a row, but he’d rather take his pouting than a scolding from their stylists for messing up his hair or getting sweat on his outfit.
( no more than his usual nervous amount, anyway, though he’s been getting better in front of the camera. it isn’t like this is his first music video shooting, or his second or third. they’ve even recently done those new member teasers, too; he should be comfortable by now and he is getting there — steadily. )
“see, you’re at least aiming at the target this time,” he teases, “but I’m afraid it’s a no again. do you know how much I feared for my life when the stylist glared at me for fiddling with my shirt earlier? imagine if I got my hair all windswept or got a crease in my top— you’d be promoting without me.” an exaggeration, but what’s a joke without a little truth behind it? “uh, people with cars, devil. also, I’m surprised I’m not already saved as that. how long have you known me? hey, what’s my contact photo on your phone? it better be flattering.” he mumbles, tiptoeing to see over at the screen.
conversations like these always lightened changkyun up. knowing that his best friend was aware he was joking and meant no harm, was always good. after all, this was what friends were for. teasing each other, being there for each other. it was nice that seungcheol was okay with all of this. he is sure the staff can hear them quietly being dramatic with one another, but none of them seemed to care. it was like any other photoshoot. they were left to their own accord whenever it wasn’t their turn to film.
with one more dramatic sigh, changkyun slumped even further into his seat “i am bored.” he states and he knows he sounds dramatic, but this was the first music video they weren’t dancing in. he literally had nothing he was interested in or looking forward to. “you feared for it, i don’t. the cordi-noonas love me!” he says, seriously, but they all know he is joking. he doesn’t want to get yelled at, afterall, he is supposed to set an example when it comes to the new members.”stop calling me devil, i already get call demon by fans i don’t need you to bandwagon on that behaviour!” changkyun says with a huff and runs a hand through his hair. at the question about cheol’s contact photo, the younger raises a brow at him. quickly, he unlocks his phone and goes onto his contact, turning the phone to him.
“of course its a good one! i only take flattering pictures.“ she adds, rolling his eyes. it was a picture he took of seungcheol when he had his silver hair, which meant it wasn’t from that long ago “i hope mine is flattering, otherwise i will be upset!“

they were all experienced and in many ways senior to him, jaehyun had barley been a trainee for a year when he got the offer to join convex and now, he was filming a music video with them. it all felt surreal even if he had been with them for two months now, this whole experience felt odd, “a little stressed,” he nodded, it was only a little stressed, not too much because he felt comfortable with the members ( or with most ). the only thing was that he felt like he had been pushed off a plank and straight into the ocean– without time to get used to a new thing, each month had been a new challenge.
“i think its more challenging than stressful? if that makes sense.”
it felt somewhat reassuring hearing the older say he would get used to it– meeting people, for someone like jaehyun who was still adjusting to living with 12 others, meeting new people wasn’t on his bucket list but he understood what the other meant and so he nodded, biting back his bottom lip slightly then it dawned on him, he was a rookie– wasn’t he? even if convex was now going on their senior year, he was a newly debuted idol, so he needed to greet everyone properly, the thought made him wrinkle his nose slightly, “ah– promoting will be a new experience as well,” he nodded, thinking about the schedule that he would have with convex this and next month.
changkyun was proven time and time again that either he was different, emotionless or had an issue with using the correct words. he was always a tad too.. calm about things like these, he doesn’t remember being nervous about them. the most, he was excited, but even that was mild. he always worked hard, put in so many extra hours of dancing after practice, in order to feel comfortable in himself and his skills. he worked hard by himself in order to not have a reason to be worried.
“challenging also works.“ changkyun says with a nod. there were many new things that came with debut. filming music videos was barely able to graze the surface if you asked him. there was variety show appearances, there was solo activities, there was fanmeetings. there was so so much more jaehyun was going to experience and changkyun was more than happy for them now. “you’re gonna get used to it, believe me. you will also learn how to sleep while you get ready for the stages, that’s a funny sight to see.“ he can’t help but chuckle at the thought of how many times he personally had done it. “you get to meet a lot of other idols as well, its fun.”
