The other side is that population decline is a big concern for many governments because if the birth rate declines alongside a decline in immigration, you end up with a bunch of elderly people and not enough people to look after them.

However instead of actually targeting things that would improve birth rate:

Nearly everyday we hear about people not being able to find or afford childcare, millions of missed hours of class nationally because of absent teachers and a total impossibility to find substitutes, and teachers’ strikes because of the aforementioned poor working conditions and low wages. And that’s not even mentioning the recent scandals about babies being abused in private daycares.

And for once the media actually isn’t exaggerating : I have one kid in daycare, one in elementary school and one in junior high and it’s nearly impossible for me and my husband to hold a job at the same time because of all the times we have to pick up a kid early or even stay home with them all day.

How are you going to convince people to have more babies in these conditions? How can you make a decent living for you AND your children if you can’t even work??
