The Power of Dawn, Midday, and Dusk.

Just like the moon has three phases, the sun does as well. Dawn, Midday, and Dusk have their own power and associations. They each represent something different to masculinity and understanding their traits can help you in your practice.

The Dawn

Daybreak is the perfect time for magick of hope and renewal. Light remakes the world and highlights all the positive aspects masculinity.

Qualities: Warmth, Hope, Renewal, and intelligence.

Colors: Light Pink, White, and Sky Blue.

Connection to Masculinity

The Dawn’s masculinity comes from it’s gentleness. It’s a soft return to light after a night of darkness. Hope for a better day is a warm feeling that the dawn can bring upon you. Use it to manifest new beginnings, light, and self love.

Midday

The peak of the Sun’s power is at noon. This is when the sun represents true strength and the will to use it.

Qualities: Power, strength, will, and protection.

Colors: Gold, orange, and yellow.

Connection to Masculinity:

Midday’s masculinity come’s from it’s raw power. The power can be used for a variety of things but excel at offensive and defensive magicks. This raw strength is fatherly and can be harnessed for protection, and happiness.

The Dusk

Sundown is the perfect time for self-reflection and change. When dusk is near we get ready to say goodbye to the sun and prepare for darkness.

Qualities: Contemplation, transition, and knowledge.

Colors: Red, amber, and cobalt.

Connection to Masculinity

Dusk’s masculinity comes from it’s wisdom. Think about what qualities you associate with the word “grandfather”. This time is perfect for divination and ancestral work.

Who is Cernunnos without Wiccan influence?

Cernunnos has been adopted in the neopagan community as a god of “fertility” and “masculinity”. This is not true to his Gaulish Celtic origins. There’s no surviving mythology of him, so all we know today is from ancient artifacts depicting his iconography and context within the Celtic pantheon. Lets look at what archeologists have gathered from these objects.

  His Domains

  • Crossroads, Paths
  • Spirit work
  • Blocking/unblocking paths
  • Deaths, Ancestors
  • Change
  • Wealth
  • Business

He Guides

  • Spirit workers
  • Priests
  • Diviners
  • Travelers, Messengers
  • Funerary Directors
  • Merchants
  • Immigrants

Spiritual Associations

  • Dreams
  • Sprit work
  • Ancestral Honor
  • Graveyard Dirt
  • Bones, Necromancy, Funerals
  • Divination

Cernunnos Epithets

  • “God under the earth”
  • “Antlered Serpent, Horned Serpent”
  • “Clearer of Paths”
  • “Sitter-at-the-crossroads”
  • “Liminal one”
  • “God Undying”
  • “God of the in-between”
  • “He between life and death”

His Mundane Associations

  • Roads, Bridges, Fences
  • Coins, metals, gems
  • Bread, earth-grown food (like carrots or potatoes)
  • Bones, mirrors

Sacred Animals

  • Snakes, Serpents
  • Deer, Bucks
  • Cattle, cows
  • Dogs (hunting breeds)

Where can he be found?

  • Thresholds
  • Crossroads
  • Marketplaces
  • City limits, borders
  • Woods
  • Graveyards
  • Bridges

What to petition him for?

  • When you need obstacles unblocked
  • Hard decisions, significant choices
  • Spiritual blocks, path direction
  • Perusing clergy studies
  • Ancestral work, connecting to the dead
  • Moving, changing living situation
  • Invoke transitionary periods
  • Change

*Disclaimer. This is not to say the Wiccan version of him is wrong or bad. It’s simply inaccurate to his depictions. Wiccans and practitioners are free to worship him whichever way they want, but this post is for those with an interest to his origins.*

The Sun Tarot of the Holy Light

Christine Payne-Towler & Michael Dowers ‘There is an earthly sun, which is the cause of all heat, and all who are able to see may see the sun; and those who are blind and cannot see him may feel his heat. There is an Eternal Sun, which is the source of all wisdom, and those whose spiritual senses have awakened to life will see that sun and be conscious of His existence; but those who have not attained spiritual consciousness may yet feel His power by an inner faculty which is called Intuition.’ --Paracelsus

A while back Karl Jacobs posted a little witch OC for himself so I wanted to do some fanart of it! I've recently been reading his comics and they're so fun! Hope you all enjoy!
