Was it a cheap joke? Yes, but it still amused her as Molly looked up at him at work. Hands shoved into her leather jacket’s pockets, it didn’t appear she had anywhere else pressing to be. It was likely she didn’t; Mulligan wasn’t exactly filled with excitement, and the newcomer from…whenever-the-fuck was the most exciting thing she could latch onto.
“Please don’t tease my handyman.” Her uncle, Danny, pleaded as he moved around her to head back inside the inn. “I actually would like to keep this one around.”
“What? He likes it. Right, Frank?” She’s bearing a shit-eating grin. “He can take it.”
THERE’S A SCOFF underneath his breath at her smart-ass remark. up on the ladder, getting in the tiny crevices to fix up this drywall. frank’s gotten used to molly’s cheap remarks and teasing. hard not to. hell, when it’s really the only kind of interaction you can seem to remember- makes it a hell of a lot easier to take it.
it’s better than it was, say, a month ago. woke up with a head injury on danny here’s couch. couldn’t remember a thing except his name. HE’S PRETTY DAMN LUCKY. pretty damn lucky they decided to take him in in exchange he do some repairs here and there. just stick around until something or the other came back to him. so far, nothing has. ain’t pleasant, not remembering the thing that made you wake up amnesic and bleeding on someone’s couch, but... guess it could be worse, right?
he finishes the final touches before stepping off the ladder, wiping his forehead with his forearm in the process. “so i’m hearin’ i’m not special, huh? you talk this way to other handymen?” a slight tease back before he’d grab a rag to wipe his hands. “classy, molls. classy.”

A GROAN as eyes flutter open. it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say frank looks like he’s been run over by a train. twice. bruises to decorate his body as well as dried and fresh blood. the kid’s currently patching up a wound right beneath his collarbone. there’s a moment where his eyes dart around--- questions running through his skull. all to be left UNANSWERED as his eyes narrow onto the boy. ... dead, huh? guess they don’t know him well enough.
“christ.” he’d grunt out, going to lift himself up with his palms. A HARD FEAT, followed by a pained noise, but he doesn’t lay back down. “you patch up dead people a lot?”

a mumbled ‘jesus christ’ through battered lips, HEAD TILTING AWAY from the struggling body perched over his shoulder. ------ not everyone asks to be saved. unknowing of the danger before them. but the last thing he’s going to do is SIT BY while innocent bystanders could possibly be caught in the crossfire. he places her down behind the counter, takes a good glance around before turning his attention back towards her. “stay.” he’d demand. the people he’s TRULY looking for would be there any second.

gives him the hope that maybe they are alive, that they are looking for him, knows that they loves him even if he's not 100% sure who they are
but then eventually it drops that they're dead, they were killed by rawlins- just another thing rawlins took from him

Let me offer this to you for that WS AU: I know you say his family survives, etc, BUT. What if the incident still happened and the headshot was INTENIONAL so Rawlins could then turn Frank into the WS and he has no memory of his family but when they start leaking back in that is when he gets wiped.

thinkin about ws!frank and how this shit basically happened to him after he decided to leave cerebus. turned into a weapon because joining rawlins/orange wasn’t really a choice. billy is forced to stay and watch his friend his fucking tortured and his mind swept clean and basically becomes frank’s handler and he knows that if he tries to jog frank’s memory, even a little, frank’s family will be killed and billy doesn’t want that. but every time frank remembers even a little thing (or quite frankly, could be nothing at all) he either has to watch or do the mind sweeping himself bc rawlins- even after making frank a weapon, is still mad about the incident with his eye and wants frank to suffer for it. anyways these are my feelings thank u for listening
