Sam had called Y/N a few days ago asking if he and Dean could come over for a few days while they worked on a hunt. They arrived late in the afternoon on a Wednesday and set up their research space in the living room of Y/N’s apartment. Y/N had gotten the spare room ready and set up an air mattress for whoever didn’t get the bed in the spare room. The boys were currently sitting down on the couch, arguing about what to get for dinner. “I know a great burger joint downtown that also serves great salads and organic soups.” Y/N suggested. Sam looked at Dean who shrugged. “Sure! Sounds great!” Dean said as he grabbed his jacket and keys. Sam stood up as well, “Thanks for letting us crash here Y/N/N.” Sam said as he gave Y/N a hug. “No problem Sam, you guys are always welcome here!” And with that they were off to the diner.
Once they arrived to the diner they all crammed into a corner booth, waiting for the waitress. As they waited Y/N saw a few friends sitting at the counter. They waived and smiled and Y/N waived back. “Who’s that?” Dean asked as he perused the menu. “Just some friends from school.” Y/N stated and picked up a menu. The waitress soon came over and they all ordered. The night was filled with reminiscing of the days when they would play together as children while the adults went hunting. Y/N hadn’t seen the boys since Sam had that fallout with John. It was good to see him again, to see that smile on his face. It always made Y/N happy to see the boys smile and joke around, especially Sam. Y/N had known that Sam hadn’t been happy with the life of a hunter ever since they were young teenagers. Y/N was happy when Dean had called and said Sam had left for school. Sam had finally gotten out of the life and was making himself a new one. Unfortunately, one cannot always escape the life of a hunter forever.
Finally the food came and they all dug in. After dinner they all returned to Y/N’s for a good night’s rest. Y/N had to wake up early the next day for class, which meant that the boys had the apartment to themselves.
Y/N had classes until two o’clock in the afternoon, which meant that it was lunchtime and time to go back to the apartment and see how far the boys had gotten in the case. Opening the apartment door, Y/N saw papers and books strewn across the coffee table and Sam was sitting on the couch reading some article on his laptop. Dean was nowhere to be seen. “Anything useful yet? What are you guys hunting anyway?” Y/N asked, setting down some textbooks on the kitchen table and coming into the living room. “We think there is a fraternity here on campus that’s being haunted by a ghost. Some kid got the life literally scared out of him a few weeks ago while moving back into the fraternity house. Not much to go on so far. Just looking into the history of the fraternity.” Sam explained. “Oh, yeah. I heard about that poor guy.” Y/N said, taking a seat next to Sam. The couch dipped a little, causing both of them to sink in towards the middle. Y/N noticed how close they now were. Never having been this close to Sam since they were kids, Y/N blushed a little. “You know, they are having rush activities all week on campus for the sororities and fraternities. It might be a great opportunity to sneak into the fraternity house and do a little digging.” Y/N suggested, breaking the silence. “That’s actually a great idea!” Sam smiled; looking at Y/N. Y/N blushed even more at the sight of Sam’s smile. He had a gorgeous smile and beautiful eyes. Sam got off the couch and called Dean and told him the plan.
A few hours later all three of them had driven to campus and were now caught in the large crowd of frosh week. Music was blaring from speakers somewhere and people were laughing and talking. There were a few booths for the sororities and fraternities set up around the center of campus. “All right, Dean and I will head over to the house. We’ll call you if we need backup. Ok?” Sam asked, placing a hand on Y/N’s shoulder. “Y-yeah, sounds good!” Y/N replied. Sam and Dean made their way through the crowd and eventually disappeared. It was long before Y/N ran into one of the friends from the dinner. “Hey Y/N! Didn’t think I would see you at frosh week! How’s it going?” Sasha asked, pushing her way past a few freshmen. “Good! I’m here with some friends, I was showing them around.” Y/N lied. “Oh yeah, those cute guys from the dinner? You seemed pretty chummy with the tall one.” Sasha winked. “Oh, uh… Yeah, we’re just friends.” Y/N blushed and waved off Sasha’s comment. “Didn’t seem that way to me. The way you looked at him and laughed at everything he said. Plus that blush on your face speaks for itself.” She giggled. “So what are their names?” She asked, slinging her arm around Y/N’s shoulder. “Uh, Sam and Dean. Winchester.” Y/N replied, not thinking. “Aren’t those the names of those guys from the series of books that Katy loves so much?” Sasha exclaimed. “Ha, yeah. Must be a coincidence…” Y/N replied. “Weird coincidence if you ask me.” Sasha joked. “Uh, yeah. It was nice talking to you Sasha but I should really go find Sam and Dean.” Y/N shrugged out of Sasha’s hold and disappeared through the crowd. “That was close.” Y/N murmured.
Y/N walked towards the fraternity house; there was music blaring through its open windows. The stench of alcohol could be smelled a mile away. This was definitely not where Y/N wanted to be right now, around drunken frat boys. Y/N stood outside the house waiting for Sam and Dean to come out, not wanting to go searching for them in that loud, drunken mess of a house. Soon enough the boys came walking out the front door. “Well, there is definitely a ghost.” Sam stated as he reached Y/N. “Yeah, we found out from one of the older frat guys that apparently way back in the day a freshman died during an initiation ritual. Or at least, that’s the rumor.” Dean explained, talking a sip of beer he had taken from the house. “So why would this kid be haunting frat boys?” Y/N asked.
A few hours of research later and they had their answer. Andrew Landon was an eighteen-year-old freshman that had apparently disappeared fifty years ago from the frat house. No one had ever found a body and no one had ever heard from him again. They came to the conclusion that the fraternity must have covered up the death and buried the body somewhere no one would look. The question now was why would Andrew be haunting the house now of all the years he had been dead?
“ So get this.” Sam said, pulling up a news article from the past year. “The fraternity house was renovated last year. This must have woken him up. Disturbing the resting place could be why his ghost would suddenly wake up after all these years.” Sam explained. “Which part of the house did they renovate exactly?” Dean asked over a bite of burger. “They renovated the entire first floor, second floor, and the attic. But they also cut down a tree in the back yard. If the body had been hidden in the house, someone would have found it. But if it had been buried under the tree…” Sam explained, excited about the new information. “The resting place was disturbed!” Y/N jumped up in excitement. “I guess it’s time for a salt n’ burn.” Dean sighed, finishing his burger.
Y/N was put on look out duty while Sam and Dean searched the house. Fortunately, most of the fraternity members were gone to some other party that night. It was chilly out and the various sounds of music and partygoers could be heard across the campus. Y/N could hear the boys rooting around the house every so often.
It had been about an hour since the boys had entered the house. The wind was getting colder and harsher. Y/N stood at the fence of the house, getting antsy. Finally, a loud crashing noise could be heard from within the house. Y/N whirled around to face the house. The lights were off but the house was slightly illuminated from the boys’ flashlights. Y/N could hear Dean swear loudly from somewhere in the house. Y/N wonder if they needed any help but decided against it. If one of the fraternity brothers came back early, someone would need to distract him.
Another half hour later and the boys came out of the house. They looked a little banged up but mostly fine. “So where was the body” Y/N asked as they approached. “He was buried in one of the walls.” Dean scoffed as he hoisted his duffel over his shoulder. “That’s… really screwed up.” Y/N responded, face scrunching in disgust. “Yeah. Well, at least Andrew can finally rest in peace.” Sam said, sympathy evident in his voice. “Well those frat guys will get a nasty surprise when they get back.” Y/N chimed in, referring to the giant hole the boys must have left in the wall.
The boys packed the car the next day. There was no reason for them to hand around any longer. As Dean brought their things to the car, Y/N and Sam were left sitting on the couch. “So…” Sam trailed off, looking at his hands. “It was nice to see you guys again. I guess I probably won’t be seeing you in a while.” Y/N filled the silence. “Yeah, um thanks again for letting us crash here. It was definitely better than a motel.” Sam chuckled and rubbed the back of his head. Y/N realized it was either now or later, it was time to confess. “Sam, I really enjoyed working with you again. I had a lot of fun. I just wish we could do it more often.” Y/N looked into Sam’s eyes, blushing as the words came out. A red tinge dusted Sam’s face as well. “Yeah, maybe I could give you a call some time. In case we need an extra hand. Or you know, just to chat.” Sam smiled. “I would really like that Sam. Or maybe we could go for coffee some time.” Y/N smiled back, the blush more evident. They had not notice that Dean had entered the room during their conversation. “Oh would you two just get on with it! It’s like watching two kids on the playground.” Dean exclaimed from the doorway. “Dean!” Sam warned, glaring at his brother. “I’m just saying, you obviously both like each other. So go for it!” Dean threw up his arms, heading back out to the car. “Well, that wasn’t how I wanted this to go.” Y/N sighed. “He is right though, at least I hope he is.” Sam was giving Y/N his best puppy dog eyes. “It is. In fact, I have liked you for a really long time Sam.” Y/N avoided his gaze, focusing on the upholstery of the couch. “That’s great Y/N! Maybe we could even make things work. I mean, I could always get away for a while and visit you. You could even come on hunts with us when you’re not busy with school!” Sam exclaimed. “That sounds great Sam.” Y/N smiled. Dean honked the horn, letting Sam know he was ready to leave. “I guess I’ll call you later.” Sam smiled as he hugged Y/N and grabbed his coat. It was going to be tough, but it could be the beginning of something special.
