Even a normal payment can get us killed. That specific sentence seemed to be Kimiko’s focus at the moment, as her mind stirred with thoughts. Natsume wasn’t wrong. Taking their job into consideration, as well as their past lives, clearly even delivering an envelope with money could possibly end up very badly for them. Not to mention delivering envelope with money to some shady place, and people who didn’t give off any good vibes. ❛❛ I know… ❜❜ she admitted, stopping, before continuing, shortly after. ❛❛ I am just saying what I know. At least this means it’s nothing too serious, if it’s just a “normal” payment as Boss put it this way. Though, I doubt anything good will come out of this, considering the vibes i was getting from what Boss told me. These people don’t seem to be… “quite nice” ❜❜
❛❛ Indeed. ❜❜ the woman continued with the conversation while clearly agreeing with the other female. ❛❛ Money and connections sometimes mean nothing, especially in this dangerous world. I think we know something about that. ❜❜ she muttered. Her gaze lowered slightly as she nodded. Sometimes she wondered how this poor man even managed to survive without people like them before. Then she began to walk towards their destination. ❛❛ From what I managed to understand, they should be around here. I think it was between these two buildings… you know the one that is supposedly abandoned, and some other one. I don’t even remember it. But I think you know which one I am talking about ? I think you passed by it few times. ❜❜ a pause. ❛❛ I don’t really like that place. So I made sure to bring something just in case. ❜❜ her hand absentmindedly reached to her pocket, as she finished talking.
Of course she knew about the building the other was talking about. She used to get lost many times in this damn city before she met the kind man that took her in. She spent most of her time on the streets, getting lost again and again, finding herself in many shady places. If she remembered correctly, she would even sleep at an abandoned building once or twice. It’s been a while since then. However, this area seemed somewhat familiar to her, but then again every sketchy place looked the same. She followed Kimiko down the dark alley way. Nose scrunched up at the unpleasant smell of the dirty surrounding. It was in fact so bad, that she had to cover her nostrils to prevent herself from possibly puking. Luckily, the scent eventually subsided or rather... Natsume got used to it. As they stood in front of the building, her gaze wandered around. It was surprisingly calm. Maybe too calm. There wasn’t anyone here besides them.
This of course only increased the suspicion of an ambush. Her senses tightened. Something told her that if they would go inside they would walk right into a trap-- and if they wasted too much time outside they would get cornered without realizing. Whatever they were going to do, it would end the same way. In any case, they had to act fast to prevent the worst case scenario. She turned her attention to Kimiko, now glancing at the pocket to her side. As expected, the other never left the house unprepared. Well, she wasn’t alone. Natsume always carried a pocket knife around in case her fists weren’t enough. After a moment of silence, she nodded at the other, confirming what she had said. That, and because she didn’t want to keep talking. Not that she hated the conversation or anything, she was just being careful. If someone was there, they could be caught or even be eavesdropped on. She never broke eye contact with Kimiko as she slowly approached the run down building.
She waited. Then with another nod, she kicked the door down. Peeking inside, she couldn’t make out any person and decided to wave at her friend to enter the place. Inside, there were obviously traces of someone being there. “... Be careful.” She spoke, keeping her voice low. “Something tells me we’re not alone.” Looking at Kimiko, she pointed up, signalizing that they should definitely check the upstairs.
