thinking about how ofmd took blackbeard, a historical (almost mythical) figure that has pretty much always been depicted in media as a super hypermasculine white cishet man, and turned him into a gay man of color who wears crop tops and silk gowns, paints his nails and pines for his boyfriend

I wish I could remember where I got this idea because I don't think I came up with it on my own, but I can't stop thinking about Ed talking to Frenchie in s2e1, giving his little speech about how they're going to "Rob, sail, and raise hell forever" and how those words coming out of "Blackbeard's" mouth in any other piece of media would be a hyper masculine war cry, but here they're being said by a heartbroken man choking back tears, about to reach into his pocket and pull out a little ceramic doll representing his gay lover, who he thinks left him because he's unlovable.

As someone who started the Fallout franchise with 4 and is only casually familiar with the older entries, playing The Outer Worlds really opened my eyes to the level of satire i was missing out in by only playing the bethesda entries.

Like yeah, both of them do the “woah, cool retro future!” thing, but TOW uses that early 1900s retrofuture setting to sell this wildly satirical parody of an anarchocapitalist society. A setting which -despite being so balls to the wall- works because everyone in the world takes it 1000% seriously: “What do you mean ‘why do we pay rent on our own graves?’ It’s only fair to the company!” “Sorry I know i’m dying but i can’t accept medical assistance from you if you’re from a competing company”.

Seeing both "anti nonbinary lesbians dni" and "pro male lesbians/female gays dni" in the same Do Not Interact post sure is an experience.

It's giving: "Respect nonbinary people and how they want to identify! (unless they have multiple genders yikes yikes)"

I am just beyond done from the multigender hate. It's telling that so many people just view nonbinary as a "third gender".
