Clementine sighs heavily down the line - she wanted to go, but did not want to go alone. Chewing on her lower lip, she momentarily fooled around with the idea of just going by herself and making an attempt to socialize, but the idea seemed wrong without her best friend being nearby. “Yeah, I guess I will just come over? I have to be back by morning though. My mom has been really naggy lately and if she finds out that I was out past curfew, you won’t be seeing me till after graduation.” Clem wanted to laugh, but the painful truth kept her from finding humor in the situation. Her social life was going to take a nosedive this year if she wasn’t careful. “Do you want me to bring anything over?”
“yeah, it’s probably best if you don’t stay over all night.” laurie replied simply, her words sounded unintentionally harsh. it was mostly attributed to her constant state of exhaustion and panic to get things done, but she was carving out a couple of hours to spend with her best friend who she missed dearly. she only hoped it wouldn’t plague her in those moments, “come in the window, will you? i’m pretty much on house arrest unless i’m going to school.” an irritated sigh came through her end while an eyeroll accompanied.

anon from last ask again- i think a lot of trans folks experience a lot of struggle, and that's true. especially in that time period. but some trans folks don't experience body dysphoria etc. again, this is all totally up to you, but it's worth thinking about! consider maybe asking someone who has more understanding of the experience. if nothing else, it's good to learn!
you’re totally right. I truly do appreciate you coming forward or else I would’ve been completely ignorant otherwise. I’ll definitely be looking at things in a new light now.

so, on anon bc people are dicks, but as someone who identifies outside of the gender binary, do whatever tf you want. the people who give a shit are mostly assholes. Yes, there's a element of affirmation of the binary in GB stuff but that's not the point of it. the fact that you can understand that you can't fully take into account a Trans experiance is great. I would say it might be good to explore that and try and understand a trans perspective, but also, again, do whatever the fuck you want.

the thing about gender bending is it's like. it basically affirms the gender binary. it's like 'the only reason this character is a boy is because they have a penis'. consider trans will! she's still 100% a girl and could be played exactly as you would a cisgendered girl. shes just trans. this may be worded poorly, as i'm not trans myself, but that's my two cents.
no, that makes perfect sense! i never really looked at it from that perspective & i really appreciate you informing me of all this. my issue is that from my understanding being trans includes a lot of baggage and struggles at times which i feel would become an integral part of writing a character and I personally don’t want to interpret that struggle incorrectly which is where my hesitance is coming from. I’ll definitely take it into consideration though, thanks so much!

thanks so much anon! i personally don’t find an issue with genderbending at all, but if somebody could please educate me further on why it’s problematic i would really appreciate that! i try to refrain from writing as trans characters since i feel like i can’t personally relate to that struggle, so i’d prefer to do that as a last resort and keep things as is. thank you so much for the warning though (:
