IT IS FINALLY FINISHED!!!!! After a year of knitting, my geekalong blanket is complete. Squares are from the 2014 and 2016 geekalongs.

I really want to knit myself one of these, but I would need lots more monies.

All I have to say about this project is thank god it’s done! Double knitting a blanket is probably the most tedious thing I’ve done in my whole life.

That being said, I think it turned out awesome. Merry (belated) Christmas to my boyfriend!

I just finished row 330 of 550…or 60% of the LOTR scarf. I didn’t measure it, but I calculated earlier that its finished length should be around 7.5 feet, so it should be around 4.5 feet right now.

And I still have 220 rows to go before Christmas.

I wish i knew how to double knit! This looks so cool.

Once you get the double knitting started, it’s super easy. Seriously. To do this, I’m knitting it like I’m making a 1x1 rib (AKA knit 1, purl 1) and it comes out as the front side of a stockinette stitch on both sides.

Here’s the site I used to teach myself. Just make sure that at the edges of the fabric, you twist the yarn around each other, or you’ll have holes going up the side. And that would be unfortunate.

(And scarf update: I passed row 400 last night. I’ve started leaving it rolled up in my knitting bag while I work because the scarf is SO FAT.)

I’ll definitely give it a try. Im new to knitting but im determined. I cant wait to see it finished.

I taught myself knitting, and what worked for me was focusing on one new technique at a time and doing a project with that before I tried to learn something new. And it doesn’t have to be a big project - dishrags are totally big enough to practice most things, and they’re small enough that they don’t take long.

The “one thing at a time” technique is totally how I learned knitting, purling, a couple bind off techniques, knitting with circular needles, knitting with double pointed needles, cables, increasing and decreasing, color work, double knitting, lace work…

Also, if there’s any term you don’t understand in a pattern? Google it. Someone, somewhere, will have an explanation - and probably a video - explaining exactly what it is and how to do it.

Making my daughter (15) socks for Christmas

It's what she asked for, because "nothing feels better on my feet".  I just love her.

She's also in the process of learning to knit, and has a few rows of sts down, though she hates purling as much as I do.

"What’s been your greatest knitting triumph?" “One time I almost finished knitting a sweater, then I realized it didn’t fit, so I unknitted it. And then I knitted it all over again.”
