Homecoming

Indes accepted the hug without hesitation, the positive reaction from her and the rest of the family a welcome relief for her tense nerves. The question that followed the greetings, however, gave her paused. She glanced between Sinia and Korgul for a moment, not really wanting to spill the news and reason for their coming right in the middle of the village. “We were—”
“It was my idea, Sinia.” Thoron spoke up before she could finish her answer, coming over to the others despite his legs apparently appearing wobbly as he stepped forward. As an instinctive reaction, Indes moved close enough that she could offer a hand to help him, but it was gently pushed away as the aging mer leaned more heavily against his cane. “I really do hope we aren’t intruding at a bad time, but we were doing a little visiting south of Skyrim already and I was feeling quite homesick. Convinced these two to let me drag them down with them. We were all overdue a visit, I think.”
He straightened out some as the strength began to return to his legs, and the cane was tapped on the nearest root. “Unfortunately, hours on horseback has left me feeling rather sore. I hate to rush pleasantries, but would you mind if we started making our way to somewhere we can have a rest?”

“Thoron, my apologies.” Sinia said as she patted the older Bosmer on the shoulder, “My father is no doubt going to be excited to see you. He’s been muttering to himself in his little brewing workshop for days, so maybe he had a feeling you all were coming.”

Korgul rolled his eyes again at the thought of it all. He didn’t want to tell his mother in the middle of the village either, but for Thoron to say it was all his idea was a bit of a stretch. He’d talk to Uncle about that later. Korgul and Indes were old enough they could say why they were visiting if they wanted to. He stretched, letting his shoulders and back pop, taking Strangers bridle in his hand as he did so.  “Mama, why don’t you take Thoron to someplace where he can get food and rest, and Indes and I can put the horses in the stable and get them taken care of? Might even take her to see Grandma when we finish.”

Anonymous asked:

I bet you're faking your excitement for the baby. You were only really a father figure for Morrigan, so now facing this level of responsibility isn't something you actually want.

I would say the only thing I am faking when it comes to my child is my lack of fear. I am absolutely terrified that something will go wrong, that I might lose either Indes or my child. I was much more than a father fighter for Morrigan. All I ever wanted was for my daughter to love me, and she does. I am a good father, by the Divines, and nothing will ever change that. And I will be as good and responsible a father for my child with Indes as I ever could hope to be.

Homecoming

Indes let a warm smile settle on her expression at Korgul’s welcome as they entered the village proper, watching as his entire mood seemed to shift before her very eyes. It only made her own smile wider.
“Yes, please. I am more than ready for a rest.” She was hungry herself, since despite the occasional nausea she was still fighting cravings as well. The thought of fresh meats and literally anything with honey was enough to make her stomach feel just a little emptier. Her own jerky rations that she had been using to tide herself over during the trip down were getting dangerously low.
The Bosmer’s eyes wandered as they continued to walk, taking in the look and feel of the village in order to distract herself. While it did have its own unique charm, as each village tended to, the feeling of distant familiarity was hard to miss. She was already imagining her own village, a place that seemed almost surreal and distant at the point, and she could feel her throat contract some before she could push the worry from her mind.
It did not take too long, thankfully, for a pair of familiar figures to appear ahead of them. Without a word, Indes looked up at Korgul with a new smile, motioning towards him to go ahead if he wanted to, in case he wanted a moment alone with his mother and grandfather.

Korgul rolled his ‘eyes’ at her waving him forward. Didn’t she realize his mother loved Indes as much as she loved Korgul? So instead of walking off to his mother alone, he wrapped his arm around Indes’ shoulders and pulled her along with him. Besides. His mother would never hit Indes, and that made her a great shield if his mother was mad about any number of things. Lack of visits, lack of letters, no gift on her birthday, getting Indes pregnant. Discretion was the better part of valor, after all.

“Korgul! And Indes and her uncle. What a marvelous surprise.” Sinia hugged the Bosmeri woman first, Silnas going to talk to Thoron about the trip and getting the old mer off a horse and somewhere comfortable with a cold drink in his hand. Korgul shook his step-fathers hand, the two mer still a little uncomfortable with each other and trying to figure out how they felt about each other. As Sinia let go of Indes, she turned and hugged her son.  “So. I don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth here, but what made you come down? You haven’t written any letters that seemed like you were visiting lately.”

Homecoming

As the guards appeared, one by one, part of Indes was glad that her instincts hadn’t been that wrong. It had been so long since she was in the Green that she felt almost as if she had become more accustomed to the openness of Cyrodiil and Skyrim’s forests and that she was going to miss the cues that she used to be able to spot in a heartbeat. However, the comments and Korgul’s reactions quickly put that out of her mind.
In a practiced movement, Indes turned in the saddle and slid from Ferlain’s back to land lightly on her feet. Taking the reins in one hand and resting her strung Jaqspur bow on the opposite shoulder, she walked up to be next to Korgul as they prepared to start heading towards the village. She gave the guard that had spoken a momentary glance as they walked - not necessarily a dark one, but certainly not an approving one.
“Well, I for one almost thought you were about to let a couple of near-strangers walk right into the village without finding out their business. Though If you would have preferred we snuck into the village right under your noses, I’m sure we could have obliged. But we decided making ourselves known would be a better show of good character.”
Thoron opened his mouth to speak from where he was seated, but reconsidered and decided he was too tired to deal with any of this nonsense himself.

“Assholes.” Korgul muttered at the jokes, but pride shown clearly on his face as Indes started to do her Circle voice on people. It was also the fact that she was defending him, being verbally superior to people that though they were superior for no reason. His mothers village was pretty good about being nice to him the last time he was here, but sometimes their jokes were not funny to him.

The guard blinked slowly at Indes, then inclined their head slightly as they continued to lead the group towards the village. Korgul’s memory was good, and they would have made it by themselves in an hour or so. Luckily for them, the guards knew some shortcuts that got them there in half that. As they passed through some trees, he turned to Indes and Thoron.  “Welcome to the village.” He smiled widely as he said it, then turning to look for his mother. No doubt the guards had told her they were coming. The trees were full of homes, walkways suspended between them for movement, a stream on the backside of the village visible in the sunlight that filtered through the canopy. Korgul took a deep breath, excitement leaching the exhaustion from his body.  “Let’s find Sinia or Silnas and get some food into us. I feel like I’m about to start eating Stranger’s bridle just to have something in my stomach.”

"Bad dreams." He said softly, looking into the coals and embers of the fireplace. Korgul rubbed a hand over his tired face for a moment, smiling up at her. "Figured I'd wake you up if I kicked you again in my sleep, so I figured I would come out here and have a smoke to help me sleep."

Homecoming

Indes thought for a moment, trying to remember if he had said something about that before, but it was so long ago and her mind was far too scattered already with everything else that she gave up not but a few seconds after. “I think I remember you saying it was not the smoothest trip…” She settled back to her normal position on Ferlain’s back, eyes trailing upward towards the branches above, watching for any tell-tale sign of movement in the canopy that she could see. “I guess we will find out soon enough though.”
Not long after that statement, Thoron stirred a little, groggily staring in the direction of the sunlight that had brought him back to full consciousness. After taking a moment to register their surroundings, he shook his head. “Next time I suggest a trip like this, remind me that I’m too old to be doing this anymore. I hope Silnas forgives me when I inevitably fall asleep as soon as we get there.”
His niece chuckled some at that. “Oh, I think you’ll get your second wind once we get there.” Her expression changed in a flash as she noticed a moving branch above, but whether it was just a beast, a mer, or just the wind, she wasn’t entirely sure. But she continued to watch it as they pressed on.

“Oh, to hell with this.”  Korgul mumbled to himself, taking a few steps away from Stranger. He cupped his hands around his face, taking a deep breath and yelling into the tree canopy.  “Alright! You know we’re here, you know I’m Sinia’s son. Let’s cut to the chase and get us all nice and home to the village so that I can visit my grandmothers shrine and spend some time with my family.”  After a few moments, a branch twitched as a foot stepped out on it, the Bosmer coming from behind the truck and looking down at Korgul. It was one of the Bosmer that had been with his mother the first time he had visited, which only made Korgul scowl more. This was taking too long, they were tired, hot, and he was thirsty. He wanted this done and over with. “Hello, Korgul son of Sinia. We were wondering how long it would take you to try and pull us out of our trees.” A few more Bosmer stepped out into sight, also laughing at the situation. “You still walk through the woods so loudly we could have shot you in the dark. With our eyes closed.”  Korgul made a rude gesture, shaking his head as a few of the guards started to come down to guide them into the village better.

Homecoming

On the road, things were quiet for the moment.
Though she claimed her quietness was because she was trying to listen out for danger, which was partially true, it was also because her racing thoughts were not giving her anything worth bringing up. Indes felt… odd about everything. She was happy to be in her beloved home province again, but it felt wrong at the same time. Because of the beast she had chosen to embrace. It made her feel sick, which certainly didn’t help with the sick feeling she was having for other reasons.
From where she was seated on Ferlain’s back, the Bosmer bent over the stallion’s neck as a wave of light nausea washed over her, thankfully passing with her next breath. It was nowhere near as bad as it was when they were still in Cyrodiil, but it was enough to keep the growing baby on her mind as well. With every passing day, there was more and more worry creeping into the back of her mind.
But for now, she needed to put it all to the side. She had not seen Sinia or the rest of Korgul’s family in what felt like so long… After a brief glance over to Thoron, where he was dozing on Stranger, the Companion leaned in the half-orc’s direction to speak a little quieter than she normally would. “How much longer, do you think? It almost looks like Uncle is ready to take a nap.”

Korgul himself was tired, rubbing the heel of his hand against his eye for a moment before registering the question. The beast blood was not giving him a good time in Valenwood, and he was almost positive that Indes was suffering just as much as he was. If not more. With a weary nod, he looked at Thoron, pushing a hunk of his hair over his shoulder, the skin under the massive amount of curls sweating even more than the rest of him.  “Shouldn’t be more than a couple miles. If that.” He reached up, petting Stranger’s neck, letting the weary horse nicker softly at him before settling down as they continued to walk. He was a lot more wary this time, especially from what he had suffered the first time he had came here. “I have a feeling we’ve been spotted, and the guards are making sure that she wants to see me.” He smirked slightly, “We didn’t have the best reunion the first time I came, she put two arrows into my chest.” He wasn’t quite sure he had told Indes about that when he told her about his trip. Ah well. If she hadn’t known, she knew now.

Homecoming

Sinia was sitting with Litan as the poured over plans for a new home. While she had lived with her father for the past hundred years, since her and Litan planned to marry and be together, everyone had came to a mutual agreement that it was time to move out. After all, this time she wouldn’t be returning after a marriage to an Orsimer stronghold chieftain and need the comfort of her childhood home.

Well, one could only hope that wasn’t going to happen considering she was moving across the village with a Bosmer man.

Silnas was chuckling as the two argued and discussed everything, but he turned with surprise as he heard someone step up to their front door. It was one of the guards that worked with Sinia, and the Bosmer was panting slightly as he stood there, like he had run to their home from wherever they were.  “Sinia...” The guard took a deep breath, “Your son was spotted on the western border, and he’s on his way. He has a female bosmer with him, and an older male bosmer. They’re traveling slow, but they’ll be here soon.”

"I was only gone for thirty seconds!"

Korgul looked at her, holding the wrapped ball of cloth in his hands. He had started teaching the children a type of orcish ball game since it was their last night. It was the kind of game that involved a lot of physical movement, but that was okay, right? In the thirty seconds, more like a minute and a half she had been gone, Korgul had taken the local children that wanted to play along with the kids from the house and turned them into face painted hooligans ready to take each other out. He really had a knack for it. He smiled at her, face sheepish as the kids vlambered for him to give them the ball. “Right? I can do great things in just a minute.”

"So. Going to be a father again. How's that feel?"

Korgul made room near the fire for Thoron to sit down. The big half-orc didn't answer, cracking the melon he was holding in half and offering a piece to the older mer. With a deep sigh, he took a bite, chewing slowly before finally answering.

"I'm... I'm so excited, Thoron. I wasn't around for much of Morrigans pregnancy, and while I'm her father, and no one can take that away from me, I'm not her biological father. But this child, this is a part of me. And it's with Ehte, who is... I don't know how to describe what she means to me, or how much she means to me." He took another bite of his melon, staring into the fire. He hadn't talked to her about this yet, but he would have to sooner or later.

"I don't know if we're ready for a child. We've known each other for half a decade at this point, been together for two years. But what is that, in the life of a mer? And then, when I think about that, I think about..." He sat down his melon, wiping his hands on his pants legs, "I'm nearing my first century. Orsimer life expectancy is usually about 80 because they all run off to kill themselves at some point. So, even being half-bosmer, who knows how much time I have left? Am I even going to be around to see my child grow up? Or how long will I be around with Indes, before I have to go and leave her with a family on her own?" He shook his head, looking at Thoron, desperate for some sort of guidance or answer that he knew the old mer couldn't really give him. "I want to marry her, but I want to ask her parents if it's okay first. And I'm worried they'll say no, that I'm getting old and don't know it, and all sorts of things. But despite my worries, I am happy I'm going to be a father. And I'm happy it'll be with Indes."

Little Surprise - Indes/Korgul

Avatar
halforcsmash
As he came to again, Indes could not find the words to answer him right away, only smiling and nodding as he talked. Her hand came up to rest over his while he held it there, and she gazed down at him as her thoughts trailed off. If she could have him like this every moment of the day, she would be content. To see him not just happy, but overjoyed at this concept, was distracting enough that she almost missed it when his expression changed and he expressed his concerns in regards to her mother.
As Korgul turned to talk to her stomach, she was again lost in her thoughts, though this time it was about her mother as well. How would she react to this? There was not just a twinge of worry now sitting in her chest, but also the same fear that she felt every time she thought of the rest of her family finding out about the beast blood. Thankfully by the time the feeling was growing, the half-orc seemed to be done speaking to the baby and Indes was able to focus on him again. She quickled under her breath, soft and almost tired-sounding. “Seems like you may need to start giving me more serious lessons in your tongue if you’re going to do that. I can’t have you two talking bad about me without me knowing it.”
The hand that had been resting on his had made its way to his hair at this point, running across the curls and smoothing out bits that had become unruly after he had passed out. “You may be right, you know. I have no idea if this is going to go over well with my mother or not. She… knows about us, but I only told her about it around… maybe a little after that first year mark? And even then it was only after some strong encouragement from Uncle. After… well, since Arlow and I split up after the tourney and I had to tell them about that, I was not sure it was a smart idea to tell them right away once we were actually together like that. Felt too soon.” She shook her head, frustrated that she couldn’t make her explanation any better than that. “Long story short, she knows, but from what I can tell in her letters, she isn’t showing if she has an opinion one way or another about us.”
Her eyes turned to look at him again, almost apologetically. “Please don’t worry about what my mother is going to think, though. That is going to be something I can deal with when the time comes. But right now, I just want to enjoy this.” The smile returned to her face now, even bigger than before. “I love seeing you so happy like this. How are you feeling now, by the way? Still light-headed? Dizzy?”

He chuckled softly, a whispered word in Orcish before he kissed her stomach, finally turning fully again to look at her.  “Oh no my love. A father and his daughter have to have secrets, even from the mother.” He was very smug, “I’m also willing to go ahead and start taking bets from you and your family on if my daughter is going to be a daughter.”  Korgul listened to her talk about her mother, and the letter, and everything really that had went on with all that, nodding along as she spoke. Well, that might make things easier. But while he was worried a bit, he couldn’t bring himself to care too much what her mother thought about the whole situation after some thoughts of his own. He didn’t know her. The only two members of Indes’ family that he knew and loved and cared for were here, with them, and Thoron would be the one he was worried about all together. He didn’t want to disappoint the old mer.  “Well, either way. We’ll get through it. We’ve made it through worse and been stronger for it.” He rubbed his head for a moment, smiling sheepishly, “A little embarrassed that I passed out. I’m sure I’ll hear about that the rest of the time I’m here.” He looked at her, hand going from his head to cup her face again, the look on his face unfathomable, “I couldn’t ever imagine being this happy Indes. I really couldn’t.”

Little Surprise - Indes/Korgul

Avatar
halforcsmash
“Well to start with, we should talk about food and drink. I’m sure you already know that you need to avoid—”
Before Nidhel could continue her thought, she noticed Korgul’s eyes lose focus. A second later, he was starting to lean. She gave a light gasp, reaching out, but Indes had already realized what was going on as well. The older Bosmer had her arms where she could hold him up, trying to keep him balanced despite his size. After some adjusting, and a helpful spell from Nidhel, Indes was able to move enough that they could lay him down gently across her lap. She was gently stroking his face with her thumb while the mage straightened herself out again, smoothing the wrinkles out of her dress.
A few seconds of silence passed before the younger of the two sisters began to move towards the door. “On second thought, let me give you two some space. I think I’m going to get you some tea made up to help settle your stomach. Need anything else?”
With her eyes still locked on Korgul’s face, Indes shook her head. “No, thank you. Just the tea or some water will be fine. Maybe something calming for him just in case.”
Nidhel nodded, then disappeared through the door, closing it carefully behind her. With only the two of them left in the room, Indes sighed under her breath, still examining his face and waiting for any sign of him waking up while it all sunk in even more. Her thoughts were going a mile a minute “Everything is going to change now, isn’t it?” she asked no one in particular, while her free hand came to rest on her stomach again. “Surreal” was the only word for this.

Korgul came back to slowly, eyes looking upwards and searching her face as he felt his consciousness returned to him. She was so beautiful. She would argue with him, and maybe there was people that wouldn’t agree with him, but they were all wrong. Including her. As weird as it would sound if spoken aloud, he had studied her face for hours while being around her, whether she was sleeping, or talking, or just carving. And they were having a child together.  He wondered, briefly, who the child would take after. Would it have his size? Or would it have her finer features, her eyes? The possibilities were truly endless, though he thought that the child would take more after the Bosmer side of everything, being that it was the overwhelming influence. But what did it matter? They were having a child. He was fully prepared for it to be anything, as long as it was born healthy and he could have a life with Indes and the baby. A thousand and one things started running through his mind, but he put a stop to it as he took a deep breath, letting her know he was awake.
