can we just have, like, any feminist movement whatsoever. did everyone just stop caring?

feminism became a declawed commodified marketable trend and then trends changed and everyone just decided to pretend we won feminism despite nothing changing? despite things actively getting worse? is that what happened?

thinking back to the second time I saw afi and was waitin in line. the man checking ids got to me and I proudly said “I’m 19” and he replied in a school teacher voice “yes, you are!” as he marked the back of my hand with an x

thinking about when i mentioned tom and jerry by title alone to my 65 year old father and his only response was to laugh REALLY hard and say "him and that fucking mouse.." while staring into the distance. and then the conversation was over

If sexual activity between same-gender people became illegal, the police would be the ones enforcing those laws.

That's why police are not welcome at Pride. Pride is for unconditional supporters, not for those who would become enemies as soon as they're ordered to.

I feel it's important to amend this with "if sexual activity between same-gender people became illegal AGAIN, the police would be the ones enforcing those laws AGAIN."

They did it before and they'll do it again. Gay sex was only made legal in Texas in 2003. I was at a sleepover at my best friend's house when it happened. We could hear the celebrations from the bar district down the block. We were 14 and both knew we were queer.

So yes, they're not welcome at pride because they'll turn on us in an instant. But also because cops who have been cops for a while full-on were against us only NINETEEN years ago.

And yes I know that's just in Texas and other states have different histories but I'm not even that old and I remember when being gay was illegal. When any relationship I dreamed of having was illegal. And THAT is my bigger reason that cops aren't welcome at pride. Yes they will turn on us, but they already were against us and not-so-secretly still are.

A lot of those cops are still probably on the force and now brag about how long they've been there.

But it isn't like they've been spending all that time learning queer theory and trying to be less homophobic either.

Those same exact people will go right back to arresting us the moment that they are able to.

Cops are not and have never been our allies, they never will be.

Cops are not and have

never been our allies,

they never will be.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

what a grim palm sunday it is

not to be raised catholic on main but for the unawares today palm sunday. it's the celebration of the triumphant entry of jesus into jerusalem and marks the begining of holy week, or passion week, the week leading up to the crucifiction and resurrection. if jesus were to come today, as a palestinian man, there would be no palms woven and waved to greet and honor him. he wouldn't even be able to go into the city. he came to celebrate passover. he wouldn't have been able to. there would just be death, and starvation. murder, genocide. and yet christians worldwide turn their back on palestine now. there's nothing i can really say that others have not already said and better than i could ever.

if you are able to i think it would be a worthwhile commemoration of the season to donate in any way you can to palestine:

Lemmings don’t jump off of cliffs unless they’re being chased. Frogs don’t stay in boiling water unless they’ve been lobotomized first. Crabs don’t pull each other back into the bucket unless they are desperately and randomly grabbing for anything to try to get themselves out, out of fear for their lives.

Actions taken in specific, negative conditions don’t exemplify the nature of all beings.

Before you mock a sheep for staying with the flock, ask what dogs nip at its heels when it strays too far, and what wolves wait just beyond the edge of the pasture.

I'm gonna be honest I'm a lil terrified on what Israel is going to do on October 7 this year (2024) as a "1 year remembrance to what Hamas did/the horrors we endured" they'll probs liken it to 9/11 (which tbh they did use it as an excuse to carpet bomb Muslims under the banner of "defending themselves" so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

But seriously, we need to continually bring up that their war crimes did not start on Oct 7 2023, but they did use it as an excuse to ramp up their genocide.

I am worried they'll use it for nationalist propaganda and use it to somehow make things worse.

Some things I think people are overlooking in the tiktok ban bill, because it's not just a tiktok ban:

  • It gives the US government to ban *any* app, website, or company they believe to be "controlled" by an "adversarial power" which can change whenever they want
  • It allows the President and the Administrative branch almost unilateral power to designate *any* app, website, or company to be under the control of an "adversarial power" (and just think about how thelat can be used un the hands of, say, Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis)
  • They have to offer little to no evidence for this. For example, tiktok - a Singaporean-headquartered and ran company, partially owned by US interests, incorporated in the Cayman Islands, and whose userdata is stored Austin, TX - is apparently controlled by the Chinese government
  • It also gives the Federal Government the ability to investigate and shut down any provider who gives access to these banned websites or services, including VPN. They will have unilateral power to dismantle VPNs through outrageous fines what will essentially force them to not operate in the US
  • A lot of the Congressional Representatives who supported this bill have large donors and/or stock in US Tech companies like Meta, Google, or Palantier who would benefit from the downfall of tiktok or the ability to purchase it and monopolize the market
  • Those same tech companies which sell our data constantly anyway, including to "adversarial powers"

This is so much more than just a tiktok ban.
