I'm hoping Cory Booker's record breaking speech is an indication that Dems are at least *trying* to change their tactics or messaging or something. Literally anything other than what they've been doing. Especially because Booker has tended towards the center of the party (not the center of Congress, but in between the left and center flanks of the Democrats)

Like, call it performative or whatever, but sometimes you need that. Bernie's filibuster in 2010 is a prime example, hell that's when I started paying attention to him as an important figure moving forward, and that was barely a quarter of the time Booker spent.

Now we need to pair it with action.

He lives at the aquarium where I work in the summers. However, lobsters are pretty easy to care for with the right equipment. You’ll need a large saltwater tank (probably ideally like 40-50 gallons) with a chiller that will keep temps in the 50-60 Fahrenheit range and ideally a sandy or loose gravel substrate with several hiding spots.

They’re not picky eaters and will usually accept a variety of seafood such as mussels, clams, fish and squid but each lobster has its own preferences. They’re nocturnal and spend a lot of the day hiding and then emerge at night to scuttle around and do Lobster Things. They tend to be messy, though, so keeping the tank clean is important. Some will even bury uneaten food in the substrate so it’s important to look around and get as much as you can out during water changes.

They also tend to be interior designers and like to move substrate and rocks around, so don’t expect the tank to stay exactly how you set it up. Enrichment for lobsters can include putting food inside dog toys that the lobster has to figure out how to get into, and offering them new things to explore and move around.

Cory Booker has been talking in the senate for over 20 hours now

He’s not filibustering. He’s protesting the current administration.

For those of you from outside the US or those of you who didn’t pay attention in government class, in the US senate there’s really no limit to the amount of time a senator can speak. So sometimes if they don’t want a bill to pass they just. Don’t stop talking. To hopefully get past the deadline to vote on a bill. This is called filibustering.

Senator Cory Booker isn’t doing that. He’s disrupting “the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able”. Just in protest. This doesn’t usually happen.

For those of you wondering what he’s been talking about this whole time, his staff wrote down a bunch of stuff for him to read like stories from people across the political spectrum opposed to what the administration is doing. He’s also been telling personal anecdotes about meeting important civil rights leaders and other democratic senators have been pausing him for “questions” but the questions have been as long as a small speech and have both served the purpose of giving him a second to sit down and updating him on the news that he’s been missing while he’s been talking.
