every post making fun of fromsoftware games and gamers is basically correct and they're right to say so. the only thing i have never seen/experienced at all is any attitude sneering at people who aren't good at the games or need summons or something. i think those guys died out years ago, if they ever existed at all, when it became increasingly obvious that the games were not that hard and encouraged use of co-operation. if they didnt want you to co-op it wouldnt be a backbone feature of the games
the people who were grievously offended by being told to "git gud" needed to grow up and grow a thicker skin lol. there's no advice people can give you other than "improve at the game".
every time difficulty discourse pops up about these games, everyone just trying to say "oh there shouldn't really be an easy mode because they're designed to teach you how to enjoy them. that's part of the fun of the game" getting lambasted as toxic weirdos is so silly to me. git gud mentality always felt semi-ironic in the first place, since the people who said it were message board freaks replying to other message board freaks posting banal stuff like "I cant beat this boss this game sucks" and that somehow got warped into a fake ideology that people who don't play these games still think exists. like the reality of it is that everyone i've ever known or seen that's played them has been unbelievably eager to help other folks with trying to get into the game. oversharing + spoilers has actually been such a big problem that it's become common practice for people who play at launch go on full info blackouts just to have fun discovering things on their own. i STILL hang onto this image to send it to folks playing DS1 for the first time who've never played a souls game before and it was made ages ago.
Above tips image is fucking excellent and most of it will apply to every other Souls game.
Tip 11 about the graveyard:
If you're new and just out of the asylum, it may be worth your time to suicide run through the graveyard and pick up the items sparkling on some of the tombstones. Spend your souls on levels first thing, and you shouldn't really need to worry about dying. At most, you lose out on just a handful that can quickly be attained slaying hollows. Run, dodge, and grab what you can. If you're quick, you can even make it back to the bonfire, sit, and reload the area to send all the enemies back. Just avoid descending down the path the environment shows you until later.
Additionally, if you're playing Dark Souls 2 for the first time, especially right after DS1 or any other SoulsBorne, sink your early levels into Adaptability (ADP). If you played 2 but gave up on it cause hit boxes and rolls feel weird, ADP is the likely culprit. ADP primarily affects your Agility stat in the stats screen and that stat determines your invulnerability frames during rolls. You only need to raise ADP up enough to have your Agility at 99, which is about 12 frames of invulnerability during rolls and in line with the other games.
"You hear they said Elder Scrolls VI is playable now?"
"Oh yeah? Good, they should try to do that with Starfield next!"
