Why couldn't one simply jump ship on Shinra peacefully? Why did there always have to be drama?

It was bitter sarcasm in his head, though Glenn had to be honest with himself - he was glad the redheaded man beside himself was with him. And not opposite of him. Genesis. A kid that had started to make the lines in the SOLDIER program - to suddenly be wiped from everything. Discarded. Shinra rearing its ugly head once more.

"What? You scared we can't handle that on our own?", he joked back, though he had honestly hoped Matt and Lucia would've sent a chopper sooner. Well. No crying about spilt milk now. They would make their path to safety.

Swinging his axe and letting the broad side land on his back, Glenn readied himself for the fight ahead.

"Maybe this old man can show you some tricks, kid."

Glenn tickled an abrupt laugh from him, amused and arrogant in equal measure. The truth of the matter was Genesis didn't need the older man to guide him. He didn't need anyone. This was his own blazing path of reckoning, and frankly he didn't want to burn yet another SOLDIER.

"Don't waste your tricks on a wretched man." He warned, a hand gliding along his blade's edge. The runic symbols charged with fiery life, and the metal thrummed with a song from the magic he imbued into his beloved rapier.

The weapons all readied in uniform precision as Genesis took his first step. His arm opened, an invitation to rise to the challenge — and with unnatural speed, his weapon carved a wide arc, rippling through the air, and slamming the front line with a unique aero spell that threw back bodies, ripped guns from unsuspecting hands and dislodged helmets. It served its purpose. A distraction to scramble their unit, teamwork thrown into disarray.

"Flee now, or die." he offered to the infantrymen. "It makes no difference to me."

There was a subtle change in his stance. His knees bent, his heels dug into the earth, and he seemed to shed gravity itself when he leapt skyward. One, two, of the same spell sliced downwards to pin those that remained to fight, familiar fire licking in his palm as bullets started to rip through the sky.

AMBUSH :  for both characters to come under attack by the same enemy

"Tch."

That was the weight of his response to Shinra's infantry, as though it were a mild annoyance to face down the behelmeted fodder. This wasn't how Genesis planned to start his day, and the other defector didn't exactly look thrilled about the surprise guests either.

"Your ragtag little group going to make an appearance?" he asked a question which he already knew the answer to. His lips kicked up into a sharp, lopsided smirk. "No? Do try to keep up, old man."

STORM :  for both muses to find shelter from a severe storm.

Avatar

The cave was damp and depressing, though at least it wasn't home to a mako spring or any fiendish occupants. The stench of either would have sent him straight back out into the wild of the storm. Genesis would rather brace against the harsh rain and winds than have to bide his time in a cave that stunk.

Still, he exhaled a deep and long-suffering sigh.

"So much for our tracking." The bitter taste of a failed mission already taunted him. There was little hope of recovery from such a bad turn of luck. "There's two of us, and yet somehow I'm going to wear the blame for this."

BED :  for both muses to wake in the same bed, naked or fully clothed. / fully clothed

Had there been an agreement to sleep back to back, Genesis hadn't honoured it. His arm curled around Tifa and held her close and dear to him. Perhaps it would have been a sweeter gesture had he not also tangled his leg with hers — he was a man who cuddled in with his full body, and it certainly could be a suffocating kind of affection.

He was slow to blink away the fog of sleep. The lovely scent of her shampoo could have lulled him again, had it not been for subtle movement from her. It was then their entanglement became more obvious.

Genesis inhaled a sharp breath and forced himself to roll onto his back, loosening his limbs from the captured monk. His sudden shudder was a silent one, and the smile he wore was entirely unapologetic as he covered his eyes with one of his hands. "... well, Miss Lockhart. It's certainly a good morning for me, but I must ask how long I've held you captive?"

"That would be good, for starters," she says as she occasionally looks over his shoulder and sees that the bulk, if not all, the infantrymen have gone. The factory appears to be vacant for now, though she still does not think it a good idea to head inside.

The area seems to be deserted this late at night, though Midgar is known for its sleepless residents; however, they are usually found ambling towards Wall Market. An almost run-in with an armada-sized group of infantries is enough to make her antsy to not want to return back to Sector 7 in case they end up being followed.

There are plenty of places to scout and hide in Midgar, more so once in the slums.

"Do you know any lawyers that could take this case for you without it triggering some kind of alert?"

The details about his clandestine-lifestyle whenever it pertained to going anywhere topside remain a mystery, though Tifa hopes that Genesis will be forthcoming and tell her what she wants to know.

If he intends to bring her along, or drag this to her doorstep, she has a right to know.

She's since walked closer, sidling next to him and debating about going further to inspect the entrance and see if there is a way inside. Despite her apprehension of the whole thing, Tifa has remained instead of turning back and going home. She might not admit it to him directly, but she feels she has become a tad bit invested in his purpose for scouting out these factories and distribution centres for a product that once belonged to him.

Indeed, it is a mystery she hopes can be solved.

Crossing her arms, she remains close and glances between him and the next spot over, wondering if they can get away with sneaking inside.

"Better yet, maybe we could talk to some locals? I bet there are people in the Sector 7 slums who work here and might be able to tell you what you need to know. Lawyers just seem to complicate things, and I wouldn't put it past them not to alert Shinra."

Genesis raked his gloved fingers through his hair, briefly pushing back auburn strands that spilled back into place the moment his hand lifted away. It was a small indication of his silent stress. The more thought he gave to their situation... his situation... the more he felt hopeless.

"I don't suppose I do. That is, not any who would stick out their necks like that. You make a very good point about an alert, I imagine it's something that would reach the boardroom of executives. Though there's also the matter of how Shinra might try to control the situation." The words left his lips too quick to silence them. "You know what they're like..."

There was a small pang of regret in his chest. He had spoken it so gently, and yet he knew the weight of such a sentiment. Of course Tifa knew the brutality of Shinra. The company had sullied her life with blood and ash that may never be cleansed. His lips pursed as he looked at her proper. No. He could speak the truth to her. To not acknowledge her past, to bury her pain, that was not a kindness. Neither was him picking or choosing what might be too much for her, when she was perfectly capable of using her own voice.

And use her voice she did. Tifa bounced another brilliant idea, one he wouldn't have so easily thought of. To approach locals for what was harmless intel — curiousity, that shouldn't land anyone in trouble. Genesis nodded his approval, though seemed a little awkward. More than a little awkward.

"I am not a good person." It was a jarring statement, and yet he spoke it freely and suddenly. "I have done wrong, and my desire to reclaim Banora White may be born from my own pride. I created the recipe, the company, the brand. To not have control over that is a thorn in my side, I will admit that..." Genesis offered his hands palm side up. As though to plead mercy. "... but. The gil my company generates could make a real difference. It is but a drop in the ocean of Shinra's wealth, but to countless others it would be life-changing."

His fingers flexed. He hesitated, and held out his hand in offer. "I can't do this alone. I ask your continued help, if you are willing to give it." Everything he touched, he left in ruin. But Tifa. She wanted to leave the world a better place.

Genesis could feel something prickling on his person, like static about to build to a shock. He's certain it's the mako surrounding them. Though it's encased in pipes, he never much gave a thought what its effect on people might be. Longterm exposure certainly couldn't be good.

That dreadful crawling across his skin kept him in a state of high alert. Or perhaps he was simply highly strung.

He listened to Tifa, and his eyes sharpened mid-musing. No word of explanation leaves his mouth as he reaches to grasp her in a protective sweep, she is pulled back, and his arm pressed her further behind so that he may shield her...

It was only infantry men, but he wouldn't scoff at them and their bullets. They could do damage enough, and they were at the advantage of being able to call in a flood of support. Better to avoid a fight altogether if possible.

His hand remained pressed to her abdomen. It was an act of overprotection. To know exactly where she was. Though he didn't realise how belittling the action was, to keep tabs on her so intensely, as though he might not trust her to hold back and stay out of sight.

A long moment passed before Genesis turned his head and glanced sidelong to her. His hand gently relented as he stepped around and faced Tifa proper. "Perhaps that would be best." he spoke gently, if a little foolishly. His own eyebrows shot up a little. Wait— "That is. Standing here, I realise what a foolish endeavour this has been. Selfish even." He spared one final glance to the factory, then regarded Tifa with an apologetic look. "I don't know what I expected, to bully some business suit around, or to demand to know who has been named my beneficiary. I am coming at this from the wrong angle. What I need is a will and testament, and a very good lawyer."

And someone willing to put their name down.

[ SHIELD ]: the sender catches hold of the receiver's shoulder and draws them back and away from a threat, pulling them behind them for their safety.

"I really don't see why there needs to be this much security over app—oof!"

She feels the tug before she knows what is happening, Shinra infantry making their way out of one of the warehouses that contain a larger supply of dumbapples.

The tenement of a building is at their back and once Genesis has pulled her to safety behind him, Tifa flattens herself against the brick wall and holds her breath as if it'll do any good.

It seems to do the trick since none of the Shinra guards have made their way towards them and Tifa really has to wonder why there is so much secrecy over a brand of juice. She levels a stare at the back of Genesis's head, wondering if he'll feel her eyes upon him and offer an explanation—because, and by Ifrit, he is going to give her one before they take another step.

"You better have that explanation ready or else I'm heading back to Seventh Heaven."
